Governors Ball 16

Yeah I figured their hands were pretty much tied contractually, but after netting the Strokes' comeback show, I was holding out hope they could do the same for the biggest band to come out to NYC since the Strokes too.


At this point, I feel like I'm either going to be completely blown away by the GovBall lineup, or completely underwhelmed. Looking at all the 'headliners' that get thrown around that are pretty much all ruled out already (RHCP, Muse, Coldplay, The Weeknd, Pearl Jam. LCD, Jack U, GnR) and the ones they probably never had a shot at anyways (Arcade Fire, Daft Punk, Radiohead), something has to be coming out of left field a la The Strokes or Bjork.

Don't really think a Phish or Dead & Co fit GovBall's crowd, nor do I think either would sign up for this fest. Hope they didn't just completely pander to the trust fund baby crowd that was front and center for Lana/Drake last year.

Am I the only one kind of nervous for the line up this year? I've gone every year since the inception, since I live here, but I feel like so many of the people I wanted/ expected to hear circulating the rumor mill have been disproved. Can someone say something to the effect of "if you liked the 20xx line up you'll like this one"?

I'm with you 100%.

Although I'm a little better than 50/50 on the bands confirmed so far, so I'm hopeful.

FJM, CHRVCHES, M83 and Miike Snow would all be on my hypothetical want list. Not really a fan of Matt & Kim, but they're decent live so might check them out depending on the conflict. Really no interest in Mac Miller or Sky Ferrerira.

I don't think so either hence the "No, you're not out of touch".

Courtney Barnett being added all but makes Catfish and the Bottlemen a guarantee based off the crossword. Barnett can only fit in one spot (13D), and 13A is that super long one that was likely Catfish anyways.

Wait for the line up if you want definite answers.

I just wanna pop my collar and say that I'm proud of how close my crossword was a month ago before some of the confirmations. I had Big Grams for 2 down and Iggy Azalea for 4A as well before I ended up giving up on this. Might need to take a few more stabs at some of these blanks.

Against Me sounds way more likely than Iggy Azalea

36D, Action Bronson, assuming Christine and the Queens is 31A. Or do with think that's D'Angelo and the Vanguard? I haven't been keeping up.
