THOSE are who you think should be banned? I am not buying it.
The people that need to be banned are the ones that voted for Taylor, Miley or Bruno Mars.
It's funny, because my main criticism of Katy Perry is that she relies far too heavily on Max Martin as a songwriter/producer, and it's tough to identify any influence by her in the songwriting process. Taylor works with Martin as well, but she switches it up and works with others as well, and you can hear her voice/influence carry through the work much more clearly.
Somehow I doubt any of that went into your Perry v Swift decision making.

It's pop music I don't know or care who writes the songs. I don't really dig into it that much. All I know is I like KP a lot more than I like TS. For some reason I can't take TS seriously and I find her way more cheesy.

I didn't vote for either. I am not a fan of the pop rock and I couldn't tell you one song that either sings. Also, I heard Wrecking ball by Miley Cyrus for the first and only time when Anne Hathaway did Lip Sync Battle. I know that there is some decent pop rock out there, I just don't listen to channels that play it and haven't listened to free radio since 2004.

I love when people are like "I don't like pop music" as if it's a specific genre. Tell me, Simple Jack, what exactly do you think qualifies as "pop music?" What is your definition?
Also, not cheesy at all:
These are the definition I found:
Pop music: Pop music is a genre of popular music which originated in its modern form in the 1950s, deriving from rock and roll. The terms popular music and pop music are often used interchangeably, even though the former is a description of music which is popular. As a genre, pop music is very eclectic, often borrowing elements from other styles including urban, dance, rock, Latin and country; nonetheless, there are core elements which define pop. Such include generally short-to-medium length songs, written in a basic format, as well as the common employment of repeated choruses, melodic tunes, and catchy hooks. So-called "pure pop" music, such as power pop, features all these elements, using electric guitars, drums and bass for instrumentation; in the case of such music, the main goal is usually that of being pleasurable to listen to, rather than having much artistic depth. Pop music is generally thought of as a genre which is commercially recorded and desires to have a mass audience appeal.
Also: pop music, pop(noun) music of general appeal to teenagers; a bland watered-down version of rock'n'roll with more rhythm and harmony and an emphasis on romantic love

Well, at least you admit you have no rational basis for your opinion. Thank you for your contributions to this thread.

Show me where I said I don't like pop music. Have you missed me saying that I like Katy Perry and countless others? I just don't like Taylor Swift.

There's nothing irrational about liking Katy Perry, but not liking Taylor Swift. It is totally irrational for you to make that statement.

Two artists perform songs written by the same person. One you love, the other you hate, with no real explanation as to why.
Never change.
I'll tell you exactly why, if I haven't before. TS was making pop country garbage for most of her career. I did not like that music at all. If you do, I'm sorry, I didn't realize you were a teenage girl. Now Taylor is all grown up and she's making some real mature pop music. Except I don't buy it. I mean Blank Space is pretty cute, but it sounds like a Katy Perry song. Shake It Off is silly and fun. I listened to the whole album probably once and nothing else impressed me enough to listen again. I'm serious in disbelief that people, especially on this board, like it so much. As far as Katy Perry goes, I don't listen to her albums either. I am much more likely to not change the channel if it's on the radio. So that's the whole extent of it. Oh and also KP is hot as hell, that helps give her another edge. I like watching her perform. Now, like I said before, this is pop music and I do have different standards for it than for other music that I like. While I may enjoy some of it, I don't invest much time into it. So there's the whole story, since you needed to know why I like one pop star more than another.
Honestly, I'm pretty impressed how well Rihanna is doing. She would slay the festival circuit, although Bonnaroo might not be the best place for her to start.
I voted for her. I am curious to how T-Swift got to be third? Do people really want to see her?

I actually like JT's music a lot and would not mind seeing him live at all but never wanted to pay arena prices. I'd be very happy with him as a headliner. Def my number 1 vote in this poll
I think TSwift would actually be a pretty fun show if I'm drunk enough and I'd probably never pay the prices to see her at her own show so I wouldnt really mind a Roo set, but I also feel like it'd draw some annoying crowds and probably be expensive to the point that it'd take away from the rest of the line-up, so I'd really that rather not happen. But I'd see her if it did.
I'd bet Beyonce puts on a great show and she has some good songs but she also has a couple songs that i really really hate. If she was booked, I may would actually skip her in favor of pre-gaming and grabbing a good spot for late night sets depending on what those LN sets would be. But then again, I'd honestly probably see her over any of the 3 headliners this year (Billy, Mumford, and Mau5) so eh ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Rihanna would actually be a pretty fun set. Katy Perry would be fun too but again may would skip in favor of LN stuff. Same with Lady Gaga. Sam Smith and Adele would probably be boring. Fuck Bruno Mars and Ed Sheeran. Lorde I wouldn't mind seeing but I dont want her taking up a headliner slot. Not a Nicki Minaj or Kesha fan at all. I'd be down to see a "Miley Cyrus and The Flaming Lips" type of set from Miley Cyrus focusing on the new stuff, but god I really really hate most of her pop stuff outside of like one or two exceptions, wouldn't want a regular set.

FUCK and YES.
Just two years ago I would've called anyone who wants to see Tay Tay to be a fan of terrible music. But this new pop T Swift is great. I want to see her so badly. Just yesterday I found out that she is playing Tampa Bay on Halloween night and I am extremely bummed about it because I can't make it because I already have tickets to a fest at the Suwannee. I am currently debating whether or not I want to sell the festival ticket and get Swifty...
I feel like the Taylor Swift bandwagon at this point is like rooting for Apple or Microsoft.
She's the biggest star in the world. Whats the point? Liking her is not unique. Defending her is defending a multi million dollar business.
If you like her music, awesome. Why defend her against detractors tooth and nail? Does she have to be universally loved and infiltrate every aspect of our culture before her fans are satisfied?
Personally if I like an artist and somebody says they dont; it doesn't diminish my enjoyment at all.

I didn't defend her. Nobody even said anything against her. Vieux simply asked if people really want to see her and SFA expressed his excitement for her, so I did the same and then shared a dilemma I am facing about choosing her show or a festival for. Halloween. I actually said how much I didn't like her before, but love her non-country material. I couldn't care less if anyone else likes her.
Let me tell you this though, you're in a thread/poll discussing pop STARS... They are all massive and liking none of them is unique, neither is hating any of them because there are a million wanna hipsters that curse them because they're too mainstream. So, that entire aspect Of your post is pointless and if you have a problem with discussing such massive pop artists you should just stay out of the thread

I wasnt talking about your post. I was speaking generally on what I have noticed in the behavior of most Swift fans. They seem to freak out whenever anyone has anything negative to say about her.

That's not at all unique to Swift fans. The word does derive from fanatic after all. As for Sang, no one freaked out on him when he actually explained his reasoning for disliking her. The problem was more the apparent contradictions in the posts prior to that.

Fair enough. You make a good point.
I feel like music is abstract and should be above fanaticism; and more about what the listener personally gets out of it. But it's not. Oh well.

There are certainly ways that music is sublime but it's to heavily ingrained in world culture to stay out of the fray The more personal music becomes the more your ego gets rapped into it. So some people will have emotional reactions when something they hold dear is being criticized. Double edged sword, I guess.

One of my favorite foods is Chicken Marsala. My brother hates it and calls it diarrhea covered chicken. His opinion does not make me like it any less. I don't feel the need to argue with him on the topic and defend my taste. Taste, like music; is abstract. You can't quantify it with statistics like it's a sport. There is no competition. Its art. You find something in it or you dont.
But again, I do agree with your point. Alot of people don't see it the way I described. They probably should. It would save alot of time and aggravation. But I suppose that is the nature of fanaticism. You tend to take hold of an opinion and make it part of your identity. Those who don't share the opinion you see as a personal attack. It's silly. But I get it.

Ah, ok. I apologize, it was just you posting immediately after me lead me to believe your post was directed at me. I do agree with the discussion you and SFA have carried out. Taste and music are subjective topics, each person varies and takes away something different from certain music. It would save a lot of time/arguing if people would acknowledge that, but there also wouldn't be half as many posts on inforoo if that were the case, haha. Nobody's opinion will affect whether or not I like music. We all have our own opinions and we are entitled to them, but neither your opinion or anybody else's is going to make me love T. Swift any less, hahaha
