So you're the person who voted for Ke$ha? I was going to suggest banning whoever voted for Ke$ha, but crazykittensmile will probably ban you first for rejecting Beyonce.
And the whole young crowd thing would probably bother me a little bit.
No clue how Rihanna is live, but her sheer number of great hits is enough to have me interested.
Ummm...Bonnaroo is already full of young people. I'm not sure which festival you've been attending. But I'm sure those damn youngins would flock to every set you attend and ruin the vibez, all weekend long!
Rihanna is great live, you're correct that in saying her catalogue gives her plenty of options to put on a fantastic show.
The lack of love for Janet Jackson has caused me to judge you all slightly.
I like her music the best out of this group. I just haven't heard anything from her in so long. I guess I should check out those tracks that came out recently sometime.

As Delicious Meatball Sub said previously, "No Sleeep" is fire. I think she'd put on one hell of a show.

By "young" I meant the 13-16 range. I'm 20 so I can't judge anyone older than that too harshly. But really, odds are that if they booked someone like Taylor Swift, I'm sure that the crowd would be a slightly different demographic than an average TSwift concert. That's pretty much the case at almost any set at any festival

I only juuuuust noticed my "SUPER BANNED" custom title (because I'm super oblivious at times), presumably given by the one and only crazykittensmile <3 I can only hope it was given with affection.
Considering you've found the need to respond to my threads as if you are threatened by me I offer you some peace my confused counterpart. May you find peace in your restless soul.
yeah who would want Beyoncé when WSP can just headline again
sorry, i didnt' realized those were the only possible choices. but yeah, we should totally turn bonnaroo into a top 40 fest just to avoid a shitty jam band for the 12th time

I don't think anyone is advocating for Bonnaroo to become a "Top 40" festival. This thread is simply a hypothetical poll: If Bonnaroo were to book a "pop" headliner, which artist(s) would you prefer? I'm pretty sure the motivation for this thread is the fact that Bonnaroo has never had a modern-day "pop" headliner (nor a female headliner). And yes, some of these would be better options than having Widespread Panic headline for the 7th time in 15 years.

Ya, we need more artists without top 40 hits, like Paul McCartney, Elton John, Stevie Wonder, Bruce Springsteen, and Tom Petty.

Oh, wait.
They have recent top 40 hits?
I didn't see that as a qualifier anywhere. They are all top 40 artists, and most are purely pop musicians. I don't understand why people only want pop music if it comes with a side of geritol.

Well most of the artists listed are more current/recent artists in the top 40 and is the list that he was originally referring to. He was complaining about adding those artists to the Bonnaroo lineup and didn't mention some of the names you brought up.
I do understand why people would want those acts over the current acts. Those acts you named are legends and have put in the time and shows to really solidify their positions. It's not because they are older that people like/want them as a headliner. Nobody is pushing for Captain & Tenille, Neil Sedaka, Glen Campbell, or Bette Midler to headline and they are all top 40 acts from around the same time as the people you brought up. So it's not just because they are older....I think it's important to recognize that those names you listed have contributed something more special in the music business than just being "top 40 acts". It has nothing to do with age.....I just think anyone would want McCartney over Ed Sheeran if they are a sane person.

Because it is cool and acceptable to like older pop music, but it's not cool to like current pop music. Didn't you get the memo?
