Welcome back Bonz, but I do not find it strange that your presence being requested in the Orgy thread and then you showing up, like it was the quacking Bonzai Bat Signal.
Dates are July 22-24, in case anyone wasn't sure. Saw that posted on the screen at some point.
First round of predictions (these probably won't be too different from my ones for this year):
Dawes (three years in a row might be a lot, but I have to think they'd play their own set with the new album and everything) Emmylou Harris Glen Hansard Jamestown Revival The Wild Feathers Lucius Nathaniel Rateliff & the Night Sweats Lady Lamb Gillian Welch & Dave Rawlings Odessa St. Paul & the Broken Bones something Allman Brothers related (Gov't Mule, Warren Haynes, Tedeschi Trucks, etc) Delta Rae Ivan & Alyosha Chadwick Stokes Villagers The White Buffalo Beirut

I just feel like they won't do much more with the project. It sounds like it's basically all dennis's material and just does it to keep himself from drinking to much. Maybe they mix in a song or two to a set list every so often but they just have more to draw from elsewhere. I enjoyed seeing them very much last winter to.

My main thinking is that if most of the members are in town anyway then it could be a bit easier to book them. I was reminded of them when Rafay from Ravi Shavi came out to sing a Happiness song at Deer Tick late night and figured they'd be pretty easy to get on the lineup. But yea....it's not a very likely chance.

Yeah i had a similar thought last year when t hardy was playing and they could play one or two diamond rugs songs and they would usually do country mile if they ever did any others i'm not sure
Given that the unannounced thing seemed to work for them, I could see them try to use that to lure Paul Simon or Neil Young to finally play at a reasonable price.
Leonard Cohen Old Crow and/or Avett Brothers (seems long enough now to invite them back) Neutral Milk Hotel (if there's any indication at all that they'll be doing anything again) Beirut (new album out between now and then?) Kacey Musgraves (would really like to see them take a chance on her) Jake Bugg (they seemed to have tried to get him every year but his tour never lines up. If he tours next summer I assume he'll finally pay his due. Sort of like Laura Marling this year) Lucius (they have a habit of inviting the guests to be officially on the lineup the next year) The Hunts (I think they're on a trajectory to make a name for themselves) Kaleo (same reasoning as the Hunts) Punch Brothers (if they're still touring next summer; need a token Nickel Creek side project)
I'd love to see them somehow reunite Uncle Tupelo or Whiskeytown!
I also would like to see them take a chance on Manu Chao. I know they've said in recent years they were trying to incorporate more world music. Maybe more "alternative" than "folk", but I think he'd fit and would be a nice upbeat alternative to most of the other stuff on the lineup. Plus he is fond of protest songs, which have always been accepted in folk music.

Next year is the 20th anniversary of their first album Silent Steeples, which is all acoustic stuff, so my mission is to try to get them to play a special acoustic show at Newport next year. Doubt it will happen, but maybe if I message the band and the festival enough, they'll take notice
Always thought that Dispatch would be a great act to have at the fort. I assume their Boston connection would put them up to headliner status? (unless they also had a Boston show)

I'd think headliner or maybe pre-headliner for someone really big. Dispatch > Paul Simon or Cat Stevens would be fucking incredible
There was SO MUCH DISPATCH during my college years. My favorite local guy (who does originals and covers) does a lot of dispatch so I still hear it on the reg.
Some of their songs I love SO MUCH but when dispatch was on the festie circuit in... 2011? I saw them a few times and was disappointed with their setlists. Hopefully if they do NFF, they'll do my faves.

Dispatch closed Which one day at Roo a few years ago, right? Seems like it might have been '12.
Yeah, it was 2012. And it was another buffalo Springfield situation from where I was. Couldn't hear a thing.
I caught them for 2 of a 3 night run at Red Rocks when they first got back together. Show 1 was great, show 2 was the exact same set (and similar banter/antics). So that was disappointing. Especially since they left a lot unplayed.

I would like to add Explosions in the Sky to the list. Have to catch them somewhere and can't think of anywhere better than the Fort (or Quad ). Also heard George Wein at the Museum Stage this year saying he encourages getting acts from all around the globe. So that would help our international acts chances of getting there.

I expect Milk Carton Kids to be back as well, probably Punch Brothers. Paul Simon would be amazing. In terms of "epic headliners" I can't even really think of anyone that could top RW/MMJ for me.. I'd love to see Wilco do a set at the Fort. Missed them a few years back. I'm most excited about the artists I don't know about yet that I'll be introduced to through Newport between now and then.
