Word is that 2017 will be July 28 - 30. But I don't see it on the page yet, someone saw it posted on the jumbo screen on Sunday.
In that case, I might have to fly from Kansas City directly to Providence next year and then find my way back to CT later. I suppose I have some time to figure that out. That's also the weekend my Mountain Jam friends are renewing their vows for their 10 year up in Syracuse Damn it.
I also hope that if Vibes comes back next year, it's not that weekend.
Welcome back Bonz, but I do not find it strange that your presence being requested in the Orgy thread and then you showing up, like it was the quacking Bonzai Bat Signal.
Damn, the weather for tomorrow is ruling out my jazz fest plans
Ditto
Must resist temptation to drive to Portsmouth for Kamasi.
The Music Hall is one of my favorite venues and I'm sure that show is going to be beautiful, wish I wasn't working and I definitely recommend going if you can swing it.
Hoping the weather report for Sunday changes, but I can do some light rain. Might just decide last minute
Oooh, you were in that crowd! I did promise I'd say hi at everyone at some point, even if it was the last possible moment hahahah
Who did I meet at the Blues Cafe then? SHOW YOURSELF!
Potato it was me. Just caught up on this thread. On line to the washroom Friday night I do believe. Only went Friday and Sunday and concur with the Sunday sentiment. Straight into a Storm! Great to meet you!

Hahahah ok. Glad I actually did meet someone and I wasn't just drunkenly talking to a painting. Great meeting you too!
Well I'll be adding Newport Jazz to my list of summer festivals for the foreseeable future providing timing and everything works out. Had a great day today. Nels Cline was really cool, Kamasi was of course amazing, and Angelique Kidjo, who I didn't know beforehand, was incredible. Figured this was the best place to post this

And big differences between folk and jazz fest?
Nothing significant other than the music being played. And Angelique's set, both musically and performance-wise, could easily be a folk set of her audience was right. The museum stage is called "Storyville" and was included in the regular schedule/lineup. Crowd was less than Folk but not by a huge amount, although a lot more people left early. I zoomed right out of their at the end of the night. Plus it ended at 6:30. There's also a reserved seating section at the fort stage but there's still a standing room area, I couldn't quite tell how it worked.
That venue is horrible. I saw Van Morrison there and it sucked. Hot as hell because you're in the sun, cement bleacher-style seating (no backs...at least on upper levels) and no actual bathrooms. They had a few porta potties on the bottom level (so you have to worm your way through your row and walk all the way down to the ground to use it).
Probably a decent show but that venue did not impress me.
Yeah I'm not a huge fan of it. Only time I was there was for Alabama Shakes last year and it works nicely when the sun sets earlier in the evening. I was on the floor too, so I can't speak for the seats. A whole day in the sun there could be rough. I'll still be looking into it though
so I just clicked on this link and it seems that they have actually postponed the festival until 2017 and refunding tickets. it seems they prematurely sold tickets before they had all their ducks in a row. : /

That's a bummer! At least now I can see Angel Olsen
Hey y'alllll. I just felt compelled to say a big thank you to everyone in this community. This year's folk festival was absolutely perfect and a big part of that was because of the information and discussions that took part beforehand in this thread (and in the NFF subreddit too! www.reddit.com/r/NewportFolkFestival/) . I don't know about you guys, but for me, the folk festival is the weekend of my year that brings me back to life. It's the refuel that gives me the spirit and energy to get through the fall and winter. Without it I would be spiritually exhausted. I also feel compelled to mention just how remarkable this year's lineup was. I went back and looked at it this morning and I almost feel like I took it for granted. It wasn't a massive lineup with huge names, it was more than that. It was smart, fun, intellectual and solid the whole way through. To have flight of the conchords, Patti Smith, Elvis Costello, Middle Brother, Norah Jones and Alabama Shakes on one lineup for a festival with only 10,000 people is just unreal.
