Yeah I'm wondering why Jim is absent. Seems suspicious to me. But now I'm guessing there will be something else Jacket or Jim related at the Fort this year
Holy holy holy holy shiz, Ray Lamontagnes backing band for his tour is MMJ minus jim james. He has the be the friday headliner.
All of MMJ was there on Friday last year and they were not headliners.
Yes but still as the backing band to one of the most legendary artists of all time, who could probably only be topped by about 5 realistic names for a Friday slot. Is Ray Lamontagne bigger than Ryan Adams (2014 Friday headliner)? Maybe. There could be an argument either way. Basically just setting my expectations on the lower side so that if Newport pulls off another white whale it will blow my mind again.

Pretty sure he's mentioned he's working on another solo album
I was thinking Pre-HL until I checked out his Spotify "Monthly Listeners". He's got more listeners than MMJ, Jackson Browne, OCMS, Avetts, Mavis, Decemberists, Jack White (though not WS) and Roger Waters (though not Floyd). I didn't think he was that big. So, I guess he could headline. I'm okay with that.
This festival takes place in Ontario on the same weekend as Newport. Offers some insight as to who is touring and who might not be able to make it to both festivals. Although Ray and Nathaniel Rateliff are both playing this fest and Newport...guess they'll be doing a lot of traveling that weekend.

I could see Beirut, Gary clark, mac demarco, the arcs, kurt vile (too soon to come back?), phosphorescent, lucius (NO WAY they aren't there this year) and white denim showing up at newport
There's a couple acts (Vince Staples and Disclosure, most notably) who are doing Sasquatch (in Washington state) and Boston Calling, which are the same weekend.
It would not be a huge surprise to see a 5-6 acts do Wayhome and NFF, or Xpontential (if that's happening this year) and NFF.

Wayhome Possibilities (my hopes/expectations in bold): Beirut Gary Clark Jr. The Arcs Kurt Vile Phosphorescent Half Moon Run Lucius Femi Kuti Noah Gundersen Bombino
One more off the ol' bingo card! I saw Villagers open for Laura Marling last spring and immediately knew they'd be on Newport's radar soon if they weren't already. Not the most exciting live act, but I still thought they were really good and listened to their album a fair amount last year.
I'm thinking Friday will be a slightly bigger artist after these 3 small names. My (one again completely arbitrary) guesses: Dawes or Charles Bradley
