There is zero percent chance Day of the Dead plays at Newport. It's Aaron Dessner's pet project, he's not going to debut it somewhere else before Eaux Claires, which is also his festival. I'd also say there's about a zero percent chance of Bon Iver/Justin Vernon.
Thank you for being the voice of reason.
Saying there's a "zero percent change" is just pure cynicism. Who would have believed Roger Waters would have ever played a set with MMJ before last year? It's official: all bets are off, anything is possible at Newport. I think next week we're in for a big announcement. First week in May, and remember Roger Waters wasn't announced until mid-May, Jack White in June if I remember correctly. Whatever is coming, will be amazing, and probably something we won't expect.

I agree, but I love when people say 0 percent, because it'll be a nice shocker for them...
Day of the Dead would be probably an even bigger surprise than Roger Waters, simply because all indications are that it's either going to be a one-time only performance, or that it's going to debut at Eaux Claires. It's curated by Aaron Dessner/the National, who also curate Eaux Claires. It features a massive roster, many of whom are already confirmed as playing at Eaux Claires. It's also been noted from press releases that went out when EC was announced that it would be "the first and only performance of Day of the Dead." It would make no sense for them to promote the show like that, then just be all "eh, here's another one for you," especially when the people behind the project have a vested interest in the festival where it's to be performed; it's not like they're scheduled at Lolla or something, it's their own affair. So yeah, zero percent chance.
This. It makes no sense for either festival to diminish the value of that performance. Sometimes a one-off is just that, one single performance that will never happen again.

Lol, I was referring to Bon Iver, I'm not familiar with "The Day of the Dead". My point is Roger Waters in 2015 will continue to be much more of a surprise and shocker than Bon Iver would be this year.

Can we talk about how good this Phil Cook album is? This may be the set of the weekend
I have Hiss Golden Messenger raging on Pitchfork's review of this album to thank for turning me on to this record when it was released (I think it was a positive review and then they gave it a 6.4 or something and MC was just harping on how music reviews shouldn't be giving numbers let alone decimal points.

Y'all weren't excited enough for JP Harris.. I'm surprised that he put him so low on Friday, I thought he was a bit bigger than that. Also, wouldn't be surprised to see him at the Deer Tick aftershows. He's good friends with John.
I decided that I'm going to trade my Saturday single day ticket with another fan on Facebook (via the Newport Folk Festival 2009-til present members Group) for a Friday single day. This makes my decision much easier - Friday is stacked!
Also, it looks like Patti Smith is playing the Lincoln Center the Wednesday before Newport, with Mariachi Flor de Toloache opening. Could this mean we will see Mariachi Flor de Toloache with The Arcs at Newport?

good catch! That would be super fun. I'm assuming that's the same group that performed with the Arcs at Coachella? They looked pretty cool (on the stream)
