They are a straight up Head and the Heart ripoff. Kind of lame. Saw them a few years ago opening for John Butler Trio.
I saw them open for Shakey Graves in a bowling ally. Crazy to see them breaking out when Shakey Graves was still a nobody at that time
I wouldn't say they're a direct rip off of Head and the Heart. I remember Wild Child being a little weirder. But they are similar to all of the indie folk bands trying to embrace both sides of their identity (Ivan & Alyosha, Hey Marseilles, etc)
I have to say, I'm really excited to see Case/Lang/Veirs at Newport - I'm really digging the songs they've released so far, especially "Atomic Number" and "Best Kept Secret". I'm really happy that I was able to successfully trade my Saturday single day for Friday (through the Ticketmaster ticket transfer with another fan), as there's a lot more I want to see on Friday compared to Saturday.
Friday seems really stacked with Case/Lang/Veirs, Ray Lamontagne (with MMJ as his backing band), Flight of the Conchords, The Arcs, St. Paul & The Broken Bones, and a ton others - who else do people recommend I check out to prepare? I'm hoping there won't be too many conflicts with the schedule - anyone know when they'll release that? Probably sometime in late June, early July I assume?

The Staves for the most beautiful harmonies you'll ever witness. Raury for pure energy and the chance to see something that will be talked about months after the festival... as far as I know this is the first legitimate hip hop artist to play the festival.
Upcoming Shows: August 7: Green Day/Smashing Pumpkins/Rancid/The Linda Lindas August 30: Waxahatchee/Snail Mail/Tim Heidecker September 17: Pearl Jam/Glen Hansard September 24: Idles/English Teacher

The Staves.
Thank you - their harmonies are phenomenal, so I'll definitely try and check them out at Newport. I appreciate the recommendation thevagabond and matthewgroehl
I'm a student but I work full days on Thursdays and Fridays. Pretty much every week when I wake up on Thursday my brain tricks me into thinking there'll be an announcement. I could safely just add "heartbreak at 9am" to my Thursday morning routine
Also, I was listening through the Phil Cook album yesterday and remembered that when Hiss Golden Messenger played Bonnaroo last year both members of Sylvan Esso were in the crowd (which was only like 50 people up front) dancing along. Now Amelia is playing with Phil. Thought it was a nice little connection. Must be some North Carolina unity
Welcome back Bonz, but I do not find it strange that your presence being requested in the Orgy thread and then you showing up, like it was the quacking Bonzai Bat Signal.
I'm glad that I gave up on expecting headliner announcements a long time ago. Because it's quite clear that they have no intentions on announcing lol
I think you're right. Or else they're waiting until the very end. But they've been kind of losing my attention the last couple weeks. I'm liking discovering some new stuff, but I'd appreciate another familiar name or two to reel me back in
This year has clearly been about them promoting their fan to fan system. They are benefiting heavily by either waiting until the end, or not announcing headliners.

With Friday having a lot of older bands (Freakwater, Fruit Bats, Violent Femmes), I'm thinking the ultimate older band headliner of Dispatch would make a lot of sense... a New England band with some folk roots that was heavily requested this year and are playing a short summer tour that ends in early July. If that happened I would definitely have to get some Friday tickets.

I didn't realize anybody but me was requesting them. I noted a while back that this year is also the 20th anniversary of their first and folkiest album. Make it happen Jay!
