With Friday having a lot of older bands (Freakwater, Fruit Bats, Violent Femmes), I'm thinking the ultimate older band headliner of Dispatch would make a lot of sense... a New England band with some folk roots that was heavily requested this year and are playing a short summer tour that ends in early July. If that happened I would definitely have to get some Friday tickets.
I didn't realize anybody but me was requesting them. I noted a while back that this year is also the 20th anniversary of their first and folkiest album. Make it happen Jay!
Well you're right, what I remember seeing were a lot of Chadwick Stokes requests. I would assume Jay would want to go bigger and get the full band. Maybe he even saw your post and it will be a Silent Steeples setlist.
Upcoming Shows: August 7: Green Day/Smashing Pumpkins/Rancid/The Linda Lindas August 30: Waxahatchee/Snail Mail/Tim Heidecker September 17: Pearl Jam/Glen Hansard September 24: Idles/English Teacher

I'm be down for Chad as well. Seems high time either he or the whole band played the Fort. Why not both? I'd think Dispatch and Newport would be right up each other's alley
I'm glad that I gave up on expecting headliner announcements a long time ago. Because it's quite clear that they have no intentions on announcing lol
I think you're right. Or else they're waiting until the very end. But they've been kind of losing my attention the last couple weeks. I'm liking discovering some new stuff, but I'd appreciate another familiar name or two to reel me back in
I got some friends that are seriously considering bailing out, due to the lack of announced headliners. I don't blame them. If I wasn't local, Sunday is looking bleak and I'd be considering skipping at least that.
They're getting a little too cocky for their own good. Because if the output doesn't match the hype they are causing , it's gonna cause much disappointment .
Now if there is a legitimate reason they are holding out then that's a different story

I'm probably an anomaly here but, it's never been about the headliners for me. In fact the only headliner I partially stayed for was Roger Waters. I love the intimacy of the smaller acts. I look back at being blown away by HFTRR and FJM the first year I attended four years ago. Call me crowd phobic but I'd rather sit where I can see the musicians faces than stadium sized crowds. So looking forward to this summer no matter who the big names are.

I'd agree with this, even though I've only been once. It's a very unique, unforgettable experience with the intimacy of the shows, the warmth and friendliness of the crowd, and the beautiful, historic, venue. I have faith in Jay in regard to the rest of the lineup - I'm already really happy with whom they've gotten so far, so anything else is really just a bonus.
I've always been super intrigued and excited by the idea they've put out of not announcing who's playing at all, and you find out the day of. I have complete faith in Jay and the fest of the folks behind NFF, and it would be a nice way of getting some bigger names.

Was discussing this with a friend today after the headliner discussion here. To me it seems like a really cool idea, but I think it could actually inhibit musical discovery, which is one of the best parts of any music festival. If people don't have the ability to learn about new artists through the lineup beforehand, and are given a schedule/lineup when they enter each day (or something along those lines) then they will be drawn to the artists they already knew prior to the festival. Obviously not everyone would do this, but I'd think most people would.
A cool thing they could do would be have each stage curated more than they already are, so if you like one or two of the artists playing a stage, you have the knowledge that the others playing that stage will be similar in some regard

Hahaha she's a good friend of mine. Thank goodness she's short, that hat almost cuts off my view.
On another note... going to get the Quack Club 6 Facebook group roll call going. If you are in and do not get pinged tonight- message me. If you are not staying with us but want to be part of the logistics of who is doing late nights let me know.. We find the FB private group works best to keep our antics off of Inforoo and include those that dont hang out in here.
I don't think I could handle it if Cat Stevens were announced
Anyone else coming from/near Long Island, that can pick up a monkey trainer for the weekend? His presence is required in Rhode Island during NFF weekend.
I have faith in Jay too. Dude has killed it every year. However, I wouldn't be surprised if there's a year where he has trouble delivering. It happens to every music festival. Not to say subpar headliners wouldn't still make for a great festival. As you all have said, this festival is fantastic from morning to night, from the smallest band to the biggest band.
However, this isn't a cheap festival. It's almost not affordable for the average person if you're coming in from out of town and don't have a wonderful support system like QC. I don't blame people for bailing if they aren't able to see the headliners early enough to formalize their plans. Especially when there are so many other great festivals out there that deliver the goods (they won't have the history of NFF or the lineup depth, but they may have that one headliner that is on someone's bucket list). That's not to say there are other people waiting in the wings ready to buy those tickets.
I mean the top line on the lineup could end up being Alabama Shakes, The Lumineers, The Avett Brothers, and Graham Nash. Not to say I wouldn't love that set of headliners, and it probably won't be the case because Jay does tend to pull through, but I could see how others may choose to pass if that were the case.

Still up in the air. Originally I was told it's definitely that weekend but now I'm being told it could be or it could be a week later. Very frustrating. Apparently travel agents are being blamed lol
