It's a possibility, but I wouldn't count on it. Last year would have been the year for it, but maybe since the scheduling didn't work out they pushed it to this year. I don't like speculating things this big, only lead to letdown.

Whatever happens with it will be awesome. Like me some Costello!

Crap. Now I'm thinking about the New Basement Tapes again. Doubtful, but if Elvis Costello is announced for Sunday, it's a remote possibility. Marcus is available, Rhiannon is not touring that weekend (I don't think!), Jim James should be at the festival, Taylor is playing with Middle Brother... Ok, I'll stop!

Rhiannon is doing a show on Broadway I believe
Elvis solo is still pretty great
Agreed! Ahh, yes she is on Broadway filling in for Audra Mcdonald in "Shuffle"

Solo still makes it possible. Actually more possible than if he had the band
Elvis is one of my all time favs but his solo shows are kinda meh. I walked out his show here halfway through, without a band it realllllly wasn't working for me.
So we'very got 3 acts left to be announced if they stick with the same numbers from last year, right? Think they finish up this week since they've been making an announcement everyday for the last few?

I hope you guys get a better show
It said solo for Roger Waters last year, and we all know how that turned out

This is a pipe dream and please don't get mad at me for thinking... but with Elvis Costello and Taylor Goldsmith on Sunday... the New Basement Tapes are a possibility. Even bigger than that though... with Edward Sharpe playing Sunday as well as Preservation Hall and even Kyle Craft, there is a lot of New Orleans influence. Could we be getting Mumford & Sons for some kind of Big Easy Express revival and maybe some New Basement Tapes songs? I know a lot of people haven't been too impressed with the lineup thus far. It's very possible that a lot of money this year is tied up in one act...
Upcoming Shows: August 7: Green Day/Smashing Pumpkins/Rancid/The Linda Lindas August 30: Waxahatchee/Snail Mail/Tim Heidecker September 17: Pearl Jam/Glen Hansard September 24: Idles/English Teacher

This is what I'm hoping will happen. He'll do his opening song solo then introduce Dawes or something as his backing band.

If I end up missing TNBT... life would not be okay.
Welcome back Bonz, but I do not find it strange that your presence being requested in the Orgy thread and then you showing up, like it was the quacking Bonzai Bat Signal.

Soooo Ladysmith Black Mambazo just announced some US dates, last one being July 22nd in East Hampton, NY. IF MAYBE YOU WANT TO SWING BY NEWPORT AFTER THAT AND BRING YOUR OLD PAL PAUL, THAT WOULD BE COOL.
In the process of trying to make a mock schedule and I'm realizing how many potential conflicts there are, especially in the top couple artists for each day.. It really depends what the headliner situation ends up being, but right now I'm worried about FJM and Ryan Adams, and Phil Cook/Middle Brother/Glen Hansard

Yes, when you look at the line up as a whole it looks like some tough choices will need to be made....

i was also thinking as much as i would be ok with jay's idea of walking in and finding out who is playing that day. i might walk into this and need a nurse so maybe the rolling lineup is perfect
Could they be the Sunday headliner? It looks like they're booked at the Xponential Festival (or whatever it's called) on that Saturday, and Friday is full.

To be honest, the Shakes were pretty boring in 2012 at Newport. Boston Calling last year though? They blew the lid off of City Hall. Cannot wait to see them again.
