Welcome back Bonz, but I do not find it strange that your presence being requested in the Orgy thread and then you showing up, like it was the quacking Bonzai Bat Signal.

Anybody know who Carl Broemel brought out last night at Higher Ground in Burlington? Going to the show in Boston in 2 weeks, which is the day after the 2 Ray LaMontagne shows...could get very interesting. They're playing in Vermont tonight too so I imagine the guests will be similar for both shows.

No, but supposedly Tom, Bo, and Patrick are his touring band.

Hey Everyone, been checking in on this thread over the last few months as they've announced the lineup. Cool to see the behind the scenes community here. First time to Newport and super excited -- only downside is that I do not have any accommodations figured out. Was wondering if you all might have any suggestions around affordable options for 2 people. Airbnb doesn't seem to be an option, and my friend checked into campsites and said they seem to be booked up. Not sure what to do, and would like to avoid driving in from far away if at all possible. Any help much appreciated

Middletown is more affordable than Newport proper. Warwick, over by the airport, is probably 45 minutes away.

Also check nearby Massachusetts towns Fall River, Westport and Somerset (which are much closer than many places in RI) as well as Tiverton RI. Be wary of Fall River though as there are some areas in that town you want to avoid.
So I was just checking out the two setlists that are online for Ray Lamontagne's tour and DAMN they look good. Need to see if I can snag a ticket for one of those Boston shows, but if not, I'll be looking forward to that Newport set

Welcome turtleisland. Triple check the campsites in portsmouth RI. That's a short skip into Newport. I got a little creative at the Melville pond campsite and requested a 'back in' site with type of RV as 'tent' with no amenities and it came up with 2 sites available.... for just a little more than what the tent-only's are going for because its nff weekend. least expensive i'm seeing for hotels is $100 a night. The ramada inn in middletown is real close and appears to have room or two left but there running 2 and change per night.
Its a little farther than you might want.. but its a straight shot up rural rte 1 - over two bridges and you're there - Burlingame State park in charlestown, RI can be very cost effective. State park - so rules about no-nos, dont be obvious or obnoxious and it should be good.
Good Luck!! It can be a challenge this close to NFF but it will be worth it!
Carl Broemel from MMJ announced his new solo album yesterday. It features Neko Case and Laura Veirs (as well as Tom and Bo). Could we get a surprise solo set from him on Friday?

New podcast with Phil Cook. This Southland Revue set is gonna be crazy. I swear to god if it conflicts with something else I wanna see, I'll go insane.

I noticed Kamasi Washington was on the Jazz Fest lineup this year.
Obviously not happening this year, but how much of a stretch would it be to have him on the Folk lineup?
Probably won't happen. There's just not really a folk connection unfortunately
I think the storytelling of his album actually connects to folk really well, but I don't think the gentle souls of the folk fest could handle getting their faces absolutely positively melted off by that set.
