Alert to all of Inforoo: proof that Dave doesn't hate me after all!
But in all seriousness, the main thing holding me back is that painful painful conflict at the end of Friday night: why the hell did they schedule Nico's set against Yo La/Lambchop? Do I really want to spend $50 to be sad that I can only see one of the two?
I was going more for the long con where I acted like I was excited to see you then just avoided you for twice as long, but you think what you wanna think.
Considering you've found the need to respond to my threads as if you are threatened by me I offer you some peace my confused counterpart. May you find peace in your restless soul.
thursday: KSO with Steven Schick or Mamiffer -> Arkestra -> Yo La Tango (possibly, if I am not going to sleep cause I have class in the AM)
friday: zeena parkins & tony buck -> heiroglyphic being or 8th blackbird -> shabazz or vijay iyer -> dream syndicate or bombino
saturday: heart of a dog -> phantom orchard -> mark ribot -> laurie anderson and phillip glass -> molly nilsson -> the necks -> bedroom community (!!!!!) -> either sunn o))) or kamasi
Bolded are maybes for me due to them being paid shows. Friday is a tough one for me. I am bummed I will be in class for xylouris white but I highly recommend people go see them. I really want to see 8th bb, but I dont know that I can shell out the dough; really all of the paid shows are things I would 100% go see on their own but an extra 90 makes that really difficult for me. I have a sneaking suspicion 8th bb may be the best set of the weekend though. BR Community is my most anticipated set.
Here is the first version of a guide map for the festival. I stuck with stuck that was either downtown, near a venue or close to downtown. If someone wants anything for a specific part of town you're staying in, let me know, and I can put some stuff up there. Also, I expect marcoolio and abrakapokus will want to add things.
Edit: Google Maps doesn't work on mobile devices. Editx2: Abra came home and rightly pointed out that I should add shopping especially The Market on Gay St which is basically the only place to get random toiletries downtown.
Looks like I'll be switching my schedule up again.
I like the placement though. Now I just gotta hope for some good Sanctuary shows.
Yeah. I thought it would help for people thinking out their schedule. Bijou to the new venue or the Sanctuary is a haul. I'll probably put some notes on places this weekend as needed, i.e. Pete's being for breakfast/brunch, etc.

That's what time I figured, and I think Abra was going to go for as well.
Also, per marcoolio 's suggestion, I'm gonna add the free parking garages to the map later.
Updated with all the city garages that are free after 6pm on weekends weekdays and all day on weekends. I also added some notes for some of the pins.
Of note: if you arrive and leave you car in a garage during a paying time, say noon on a thursday, you could leave on a free period and not pay anything. So if you leave your car on thursday and grab it sunday, you will have free parking.

True facts. It also works on a daily basis. Park it at noon and pick it up after shows.
I'm thinking of skipping Angel Olsen too, in favor of Circuit Des Yeux and Kiasmos. That seems to make the most sense schedule-wise, coming from the Bedroom Community show, which I want to see all of. That KILLS me, but Circuit Des Yeux will keep me from being too disappointed, right? I've listened to her last album a few times and really like it, but I seem to remember someone in here saying she's amazing live.
I'm also a little worried about the Lambchop and The Necks overlap, but The Necks > everything.

I've seen Circuit Des Yeux a few times (both with band and solo) and she never disappoints live. I'm looking at it from the perspective that I have another shot to see Sunn and I've seen Angel too many times to count. If you've never seen either Angel Olsen or CDY, my vote goes to CDY (if that helps).
BREAKING: My almost 16-year-old nephew is coming with me this year. Dude's got great taste in music, way better than I had at that age. Be nice to him.

Yup. Looks like I was right on about the new venue. A local news source just published an article about it opening soon and it being the TBA venue for Big Ears. (link)

So how pissed would you be if you've been holding a secret for like 5 months and someone else gets to announce it.

Knoxville Mercury is a local paper that is made up of people who formally ran the Metropulse. Most of them have been working in Knoxville as media in some capacity for over a decade. I would be highly surprised if AC isn't the one that gave them the story to write.

I really want to join all of you, but I'm committed to the Laurie Anderson "Heart of a Dog" screening/Q&A... Hope to meet up with everyone during the course of the event!
