Been doing a bit of research on Levitation tonight and its only increasing my desire to go...I'd be coming in from Philadelphia (likely by myself) so it wouldn't be a cheap trip with travel and lodging factored in, but this lineup may be too good to miss out on. The mock posted above gives me a ton of anxiety on the inevitable conflicts that will take place.
There's a ton of good information in this thread regarding the fest, thanks to everyone who has posted about fest logistics, lodging choices, past experiences and the like!
Has anyone in the past ever travelled to Austin from the East or West coast to attend this? Curious to hear some experiences with regard to camping via staying at a hotel. Staying at a hotel would make more sense for my situation but it seems as though I'd be able to catch a lot more music if I went the camping route (not to mention camping would be less expensive).
Ya, with a lineup this stacked, there's no way to not have conflicts. On Saturday, I think I want to see everyone on the first 3 lines!
However, the good part is that with 3 stages, virtually no sets completely overlap. Splitting sets becomes much more manageable. Also, sets tend to be longer at Levitation, so even when splitting, you'll see 30-45 mins.
And if you're having a tough decision of what to go see, it's easy to bounce from stage to stage to see what suits your mood at that point. You can book it back and forth between stages in just a few minutes.
Also, I don't think I'd say you necessarily catch lots more music camping. The only thing that's you'd be missing out on via the hotel is the campground stage. In the morning, there would be 3 or 4 bands with 30 minute sets. They tended to be local/regional bands, or very small scale bands. Having said that, I saw some really great sets on the campground stage in the morning. I expect the LN sets at the campground stage will end at roughly the same time as the mainstages this year with the new sound ordinances though. So it's mainly the morning sets you'd be missing.

There some cheap air bnb in that area. I hail from 215 too sir.
Thanks for the guidance/advice Rothric and cmack! I'm going to do a bit more research and will keep you posted if I did decide to go (this would be my third fest of 2016 - already doing gov ball and am 90% in for Osheaga barring a huge disappointment with the lineup).
Alright so it looks like my Osheaga plans fell through due to the disappointing lineup...but now I'm gonna try my hardest to make Levitation happen.
Seriously considering going the camping route (would be my first ever camping experience at a festival!) - it seems as though camping would make the whole experience that much more memorable. Have to look into logistics though...
Does anyone know if there is a shuttle service that runs from the campground back to the airport on Monday after the festival ends? Or is it a better bet to take a tax/uber to the airport?
Also, does anyone remember the shower fee from years past?
Trying to talk my best friend in to coming with me but in all likelihood I'll be coming to this alone. I'd certainly be up for meeting and hanging out with anyone in this thread who is going to this!
For my money/taste this is the lineup of the year...unbelievable that they were able to book Brian Wilson, Animal Collective, Courtney Barnett, Slowdive, Super Furry Animals, Ween, Flying Lotus, etc etc....
I'm heavily considering buying the day pass for Saturday and driving over to Austin for the weekend. I would probably come solo. Anyone that's been have any info that could help me make the decision to come or not?

What are looking for specifically? We've covered tons of info in this thread, might just take a peek at it from the start.
Bottom line, if you can attend, you should. No question.
Last year, schedule was released on April 23rd, about 3 weeks before the fest. Based on that, I'd probably be expecting the schedule around the first of April, maybe end of this month since everything'scome early this year date wise.
After a bit of soul searching and number crunching i pulled the trigger on this today. For my money, this has the best lineup of any North American festival in 2016 so needless to say I'm really looking forward to it.
Highly likely I'll be coming by myself so I would definitely like to meet up with some of you fine folks at the fest! Is there a count of who's in for this year?
So I am skipping weekend two of Jazzfest in NOLA to go to Austin. I am looking into hitting this up for sure. Ticket price is right and I got a free place to crash. Plus, we got VIP to SSPU on May 1 already. I am so excited to expand my festival going.

Oh yeah
If you see someone losing their mind at Nicolas Jaar, it's probably me...come say hi!
Are you planning on doing all 3 days and just heading out early on Sunday for SSPU?
And btw, VIP at Stubb's means you get access to an elevated platform by the stage from what I remember. Sound cool that you scored those!

I am not sure what we are doing as of yet. I really want to head out that way on Thursday so I can spend that extra day with my girl in Austin doing Austin-y things. It seems like I never get to just explore the city because I am always there for festivals. I think we are going to pretty much be playing it by ear. The best part is I have the money I was going to spend on Jazzfest weekend 2 to spend in Austin now.
anyone in this thread have experience staying at a hostel in austin before? looking into staying at HI austin on thursday night
I've never stayed at that one. I've stayed at Drifter Jack's a few times and would recommend it. It's near the university but you can take a bus downtown and even the walk isn't too bad. The staff is great and I aways meet new and interesting people. Never stayed at it, but the Firehouse is downtown and has it's own bar.
I think today is the day. San Diego band 'Amerikan Bear' (who had a great set on the camping stage at last year's fest) just announced via their Instagram account this morning they have been added to the fest and are playing Friday 4/29 at 1:15 pm on the River Stage. I've got to believe we will all have our wishes granted by the end of the week
I bought my Saturday day pass yesterday after Cap'n Mac saw Brian Wilson and gave me a brief review (I don't want setlist spoilers). 10 piece band and a 30ish song setlist, sign me up. I don't expect him to play quite that long for a festival set, but I'm still super excited! Besides I've never seen Courtney Barnett live & I've only seen Animal Collective once when I barely knew who they were. So I'm jazzed!
Oh hell ya! Real Ale out of Blanco will be handling the beer situation at the fest. Hard to ask for a better choice at the fest.
Excellent news indeed.
That beer announcement really allayed some of my group's fears. We were not exactly excited about drinking Dos Equis all weekend. Now, at least, it sounds like they're going to have some nice options courtesy of Real Ale! With that question answered, if we could just get that schedule!

Exactly, now I'm not worried about concocting a smuggling plan. I'll happily drink some Real Ale for the weekend.
Now don't get me wrong, I'll still be bringing a few special sixers, but now it's just to augment and not the complete supply.
I read they'll have 4 types in cans, and then 6 on tap in some special tent or something.
For the cans, assuming they'll have Fireman's 4, Hans Pils, and not sure for the other 2.
Hey guys, anyone listened to the new Woods yet? I'm nervous to listen to it cause I've seen them so I can live a conflict that blocks them, but if the album is good enough, it'll make the decision way harder. As a side note, Listened to Black Mountain's new album and it's easily my favorite so far this month. I'm hoping the play fairly late and play a full version of the final song on the album

Not to make your decision harder but the new Woods is the best thing they've ever done, imo. They tour constantly though, so there's that.
I saw Sunn 0))) this past weekend and was blown away. Literally. It may be the loudest thing I've ever heard.
