So glad I got tics for this. Saturday is going to be an all timer, from the perspective of my tastes: Brian Wilson, Animal Collective, Black Angels, Black Mountain, Courtney Barnett, Thurston Moore Group, Parquet Courts, etc. I also love the Ween addition. That's going to be a great way to end the fest. I don't know a ton of the new additions, but now I can spend some time researching them. I'm sure there's going to be some gems!
Well, I've already looked up some stuff on David J. Apparently, he's the former bassist for Bauhaus and Love and Rockets, and he fills his sets with songs from those two bands. That's something else to get excited about.
edit: how long do they usually make each band's set? And how long are headliners shows usually? Because I can find schedules from last year but they just say the start time of each band and not when they ended.
Check out the Clashfinder from last year, has end times for the set.
In general, bands at the beginning of the day get 45 minutes, and bands later in the evening get an hour. Headliners last year got 1.5-2 hours.
Ahhhhh Animal Co and Brian Wilson? Will they def HL compete?
I'm anticipating something similar to 13th Floor Elevators > Flaming Lips. I think Brian Wilson will play sometime around 10 that evening, with AnCo closing out the main stage.
Saturday is absolutely packed for me.
On Sat, I think the Main Stage will go: Black Angels > Brian Wilson > Animal Collective
In the tent, they can have Boris > Sunn O))) > Sleep
I bet Courtney Barnett will close down the river stage that night.
Fuck me, I need 3 bodies.
The good thing is that there are virtually no sets that completely overlap. So you can catch some decent half sets. And getting a good spot for any show is never really an issue.
On Friday, my biggest fear is that Flying Lotus and Nicolas Jaar might conflict.
I think FlyLo's cube is too big for the tent, but maybe I'm wrong. If the tent went Nico > FlyLo to close out the night, I'd be beyond excited.
So excited, and haven't even begun my research into the lineup. , will be sure to check out those two recommended in the adds.
The end of Friday night is going to be absolute hell for me in terms of conflict.
My biggest fear is that two or more of Slowdive/FlyLo/BJTM will conflict.
I think that other than that, most of my conflicts will be a bit earlier in the day. Though the end of Sunday could be rough. Ahhh... Who am I kidding... There will b plenty of conflicts but it won't matter because I'll be happy no matter I choose. I think most of the choices are going to come down to how rare an act is in the US
Seeing this lineup makes me realize how lucky I got last year with Levitation being the week after Jazzfest. Basically impossible for me to go this year even with such a great lineup.
Hopefully Slowdive plays a nola show. Fun fact, I was at a pawn shop once and found a full band signed Slowdive cd for .50. score!
I'm going to leave this here because this is psych fest thread with Dungen on the lineup...
I was listening to this 1971 German psych-blue-flute album last weekend came across this song that is extremely similar to Dungen's Panda. Listen to the intro in both at about 10-15 seconds in.
With work and school I've been super delayed on everything. I just saw Courtney Barnett & Brian Wilson are both playing Saturday. You can consider me in for a day pass. Weeeee!
Edit: Holy shit I just saw the daily schedule is up all together!! I get AnCo on Saturday too!?!? Yesssss!
Edit2: I just really looked again and I wanna go Sunday too. Soooo bad. We'll see if I can make both happen, but def count me in for Saturday at the very least. Sunday may come down to what's going on with school at that time.

Alright I need some help with the undercard. There are a lot of acts I am unfamiliar with, but there is enough on the bill that I love for me to feel like this is my favorite lineup of the year outside of Jazzfest.
I know very little of the last two lines of each day. Any help is appreciated.
Alright, so I totally just realized who Lee Ranaldo is yesterday and I'm now even more excited. Also, I can't stop listening to La Luz and Black Mountain. I knew them both before but didn't really listen to them much.

Black Mountain killed the last time they were at Psych Fest. They didn't play much of the last album, which was a different direction musically than what they had put out before. I'm hoping this new one is similar to the first two and am kinda excited to see them live again.

Aside from doorknob's question: What's the beer selection like at the festival and at the campground store? I noticed on their camping FAQ that you can't bring your own beer, which is kind of a bummer, at least for me.

All I remember them having at the campgrounds last year was Dos Equis.

I like Mild high club...they're really cool. Holy wave is a APF staple....always are great.

Ugh on the Dos Equis. I was hoping they had some kind of partnership with some nearby Austin brewers. ....

That would be amazing. Especially with Live Oak opening their taproom this month, very near the venue.
I want to say there was another option last year, but I never paid attention.
That said, it's not incredibly difficult to smuggle cans of the good stuff in if you putsome thought to it.
Also, the parking lot with your car is just a few hundred yards away from the camp site. If you're not comfortable trying to sneak some in, you can just go and pregame at your car. Know quite a few did that last year.

Rothric, thank you for those insights. The car route sounds like the way to go. My buddy and I, who is flying in from Oakland, can grab a bunch of heady craft beers from the Austin area before the fest and keep them in a cooler at the car.

Ok so I just figured out that the harmonica/keyboard player and the blond, rhythm guitarist from King Gizzard are actually in the Murlocs. It looks like the harmonica player is the lead singer in fact. The more you know...
Already discovered so much great stuff off of this lineup: Klaus Johann Grobe, Golden Dawn Arkestra, Delicate Steve, Wall of Death, Christian Bland & the Relevators, Imarhan, Boogarins, Flavor Crystals... I've liked everything I've checked out so far, as I kinda expected.

Live Oak just started canning this past month. Be sure and pick up a sixer of their Hefeweizen, it's amazing. And their new tao room is right by the airport as well. I plan on checking it out while there as well.
I've been real bored and having wet dreams about Levitation. So, I made a good chunk of a mock schedule, with a bit of wishful thinking on how it will pay off...
Friday
Reverb Twin Peaks (6:15-700) -> Uncle Acid and the Dead Beats (7:30-8:30) -> Brian Jonestown Massacre (9:00-10:00) -> FlyLo (10:30-11:45) -> Slowdive (12:15-1:45)

Saturday
Reverb Courtney Barnett (8:30-9:30) -> Brian Wilson (10:00-11:15) -> Animal Collective (11:45-1:45)
Elevation Thurston Moore (9:00-10:00) -> Sunn O)) (11:00-12:00)
Levitation Boris (9:00-10:00) -> Black Angels (11:30-12:30) -> Sleep (1:00-2:00)
Sunday
Reverb Lee Scratch Perry (8:30-9:30) -> Caribou (10:00-11:15) -> Ween (11:45-1:45)
Elevation Royal Trux (11:00-12:00)
Levitation Melody's Echo Chamber (10:00-11:00) -> Super Furry Animals (11:30-12:30) -> Ty Segall & the Muggers (1:00-2:00)
Nice, almost did the same thing myself a few days ago.
Only thing I noticed off the bat is that usually The Black Angels play the main stage. So maybe them in Courtney's spot. Have Sunn O))) in The Black Angels spot, and then have Courtney close down the river stage.
do the sunday night sets usually go that late into the night?
They did last year.
Earlier in the thread there's some info about Euphoria's sound ordinance permits (same location as Levitation). I think it's safe to assume a similar time frame for Levitation.

Will try and do my own in the coming days.
That's actually exactly how I had it originally but it felt identical to what they did last year with the Black Angels, 13th Floor, and Flaming Lips
Been doing a bit of research on Levitation tonight and its only increasing my desire to go...I'd be coming in from Philadelphia (likely by myself) so it wouldn't be a cheap trip with travel and lodging factored in, but this lineup may be too good to miss out on. The mock posted above gives me a ton of anxiety on the inevitable conflicts that will take place.
There's a ton of good information in this thread regarding the fest, thanks to everyone who has posted about fest logistics, lodging choices, past experiences and the like!
Has anyone in the past ever travelled to Austin from the East or West coast to attend this? Curious to hear some experiences with regard to camping via staying at a hotel. Staying at a hotel would make more sense for my situation but it seems as though I'd be able to catch a lot more music if I went the camping route (not to mention camping would be less expensive).
