King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard are doing a show but venue is also TBA so far.
Is everyone doing shows on their originally scheduled day?
It just occurred to me that this may allow me to see acts I didn't have a day pass for. (Aka King Gizz)
#silverlining
Ps. I'm at CHVRCHES now, I can try to ask someone at Stubb's if they've talked to anyone about taking on any reschedules. I could see Courtney Barnett being here.
You're just too young to grasp how stylin' I really was. All the boys wanted to do me when I was 5. Actually the girls did too. My haircut was confusing.
Damn, I was gonna say how i'm kicking myself for missing this year, wishing y'all a great time and all of that and then I see this. This is some serious bullshit. I'm really sorry for y'all that were going. I'd be shocked if really is just the weather that caused them to get shut down. Seriously, this is fuching bullshit.
Yeah this whole thing kind of reeks of conspiracy... For all we know the city could be using the weather and cancellations as leverage for the residents that have been trying to boot Levitation and Euphoria for the past couple years. I bet neither will be at Carson Creek Ranch next year.
I saw lots of people in from overseas at the hostels. They were booking their rooms for extra nights. Hope they have a good time and get to see some of the acts they traveled for.
Shit, I didn't realize this until now! This fest has a huge international draw. I met a ton of folks from Australia and elsewhere when I attended last year. The cancellation would be quite the bummer for them.

I would hope the venue would put up some sort of legal challenge to all this nonsense. Then again, this type of NIMBY-ism is why CO hasn't had a decent festival establish roots here for any consistent length of time.
Anchor 1: "You said earlier you were surprised they cancelled."
Meteorologist: "Ya, if this is the criteria, no one can have a 3 day festival in Austin in the spring."
We are in the Slight Risk category for a severe storm, they're forecasting .5"-.75" of rain in Austin tomorrow at the max.
I can understand cancelling Friday if the weather was truly going to be bad. But the messed up part is forcing Levitation to break down the stages and truck out all the gear. It ensures that the fest cannot go on Saturday and Sunday.
I'm sorry, I just don't believe the decision was made entirely for the "safety of the patrons".
I feel for the Reverberation Society though, this is completely out of their hands.

I want to say they released some info about the 2014 fest. For that year, roughly 25% of ticket sales went to locals. The rest went across the country and globe. The fest really does have an international draw, even though it is fairly niche. I know in previous years talking to neighbors, I almost never meet another local.
I really hope Reverb Appreciation Society and/or Carson Creek Ranch takes this issue to the officials in the court of law. This is really a load of BS considering what is normally considered permissible in terms of civilian safety in Texas.
I also hope they seek legal action if tomorrow isn't a typhoon of a storm.
There are no winners except the dipshit neighbors who may have paid off some officials to pull the plug. Hey it could happen.
Anyways, I hope they move it to Apache Pass which held Art Outside for 8 years. I don't think there is much novelty in holding the fest within the city limits.

This would probably be a huge waste of time. The county surely would be able to find a meteorologist that could testify that there was a reasonable threat of a major storm.

gonna check the weather after im out of class tomorrow round 1230, if it doesnt look like its gonna be much more then a bit of rain then im going to head up to austin. almost drove there to see sleep last year anyway. and i had multiple albums planned to listen to for the drive. idk i feel like im gonna be hella depressed just staying at home
if the weather is as terrible as they say though then its not really worth it. we'll see
idk if so maybe ill last minute decide to hit Saturday Jazz Fest never been to it
Well, they might not be able to win the legal argument, but they could certainly move the fest to another locale that is more eager to accept the economic boost as a result of Levitation festival. Seeing as money is one of the few things that matters in America.
We'd be rolling into the camp grounds right about now...
Bummed to see Emo's is booked tonight with Foals. Was hoping Emo's would be open to host a Nico/FlyLo show. Crossing my fingers for some good news soon.

Anyone hearing anything about the weather today? I'm trying to decide if I'm going to head to Austin to just hang out and catch some of the reschedule shows but I don't wanna bother if the weather's going to be as terrible as they say

Here's what it looks like outside my window & the forecast for today.
You guys are ignoring the river warning. Doesn't matter what kind of weather we're dealing with this weekend, the state has been getting dominated for over a week.
With all of the recent rainfall (and all that's expected to come), it would not be wise to host a festival on the banks of a flooding river.

Except river flooding isn't exactly a concern this weekend. Check out the hydrograph below. When I was on site volunteering on Tuesday, the Colorado was at it's highest point. The reason it was so high? They were releasing water from Lake Travis for two days (you can see the two day spike on the hydrograph). The floodgates are no longer open.
When I was on site, even at that crest from earlier in the week, they said they were still planning on putting the river stage down there. Even if the river was a concern, they'd just move that stage up on the banks like they did last year.
Regarding the weather, it's not expected to be an all day severe weather event at all. It will be a quick moving line of storms that pass through this afternoon/evening. Then it clears up. .5"-.75" expected in Austin.

It's a responsible decision. It's refreshing to see a group value patron's safety over money. Even if it wasn't their call, it was the right one.
Keep in mind we've had deaths due to flooding within the last couple of weeks. I for one would hate to see Brian Wilson pelted with hail throughout the entirety of Pet Sounds.
Also, what you described last year seemed pretty well controlled. What they're dealing with today is more of a betting game and I can respect them putting the safety of guests first.

What was the ground like when you volunteered there? I think last year the reason why they waited to open the festival gates on the campground side had something to do with the paths being unsafe from the rain.

Actually, last year had worse weather predictions, and the river was higher than what it is this year. It was touch and go for a while, they stopped letting people in the venue for a few hours on Friday afternoon due to the bridge/path washing out between the camp grounds and venue. But once they got the bridge/path across Carson Creek repaired, we were able to cross. Over the rest of the weekend, we got less than an hour light of rain.
Like I said, I can understand cancelling Friday if the weather actually is a concern. The messed up part is forcing them to load out all of the equipment, ensuring the festival cannot continue Saturday and Sunday.
In the end, I hoping this is for the best. Perhaps it's time to move a little further outside of Austin and find another venue.
What was the ground like when you volunteered there? I think last year the reason why they waited to open the festival gates on the campground side had something to do with the paths being unsafe from the rain.
The ground was actually fairly dry, much drier than I expected it to be. There was zero mud anywhere, and plenty of grass growing. And ya, the delay last year was the path/bridge crossing Carson Creek to get from camp grounds to venue.
Twin Peaks and Jonestown Massace at Scoot Inn tonight. 7pm.
Agree w Rothric.
Slowdive on that bill too unless im reading the tweet wrong
Wonder how quick tickets will go. I wanna wait it out and see if Shabazz Palaces rescheduls anywhere, or what else comes up.
For anyone who hasn't been to Scoot Inn, it's a good time. Super crowded though for sold out shows and there's only one bar outside. The inside bar was for VIP only when I saw J. Roddy there last week. But it's small and intimate. Will be a cool setting to see all bands mentioned here in.
