Did Euphoria last year and it was the tatas! I've never done Levitation/psych, but it was always on the back burner. Why are these two fests right around the time of Coachella? Decisions decisions decisions
so far i like it. i know this fest tends to run towards boy music, so i would have to have enough people to fill my days without being subjected to that. haha
You and your boy music. I'm really leaning towards a yes on this, but I'm going to hold off on committing to anything until around January when I have a better idea of what my situation will be.
Somebody mentioned Portishead... Just stop, if they get Portishead, I'll be excited because I can just buy my ticket and stop waiting for the Shaky. Knees lineup. That's the only thing holding me back at the moment, just waiting to see how Shaky Knees and Levitation compare (really hoping they share AnCo and FlyLo)
Also, phi making that joke, somebody saw me get all excited when I saw the sneak peek at work and they asked me what I was so enthused about, I informed them Brian Wilson would be performing Pet Sounds and they gave me a confused look and asked who he was and why anyone would want to watch that... They legit thought it was a guy making animal noises... I fucking hate the people I work with

This is worth selling your ticket to ACL. What's better, 2 weekends of the same mediocre stuff with flashes of brilliance; or just top to bottom, all around awesomeness?
Redman, I'm right there with you. I seriously trust the people at the Reverberation Society at this point. Any band they book, is at least worth checking out.
Dammit. And I was planning on skipping this one next year. But jeez Louise, look at that lineup. Brian Wilson doing Pet Sounds should be great. I wonder how big of a band he will have with him. I doubt it will be a full symphony like he did back in 2000 but that would be really cool. Not to mention the fact that he might not be playing for much longer. Same goes for Lee Scratch Perry. I might end up going to this over Bonnaroo again.
Who puts on this fest.....and what else can I find by these wonderful curators.
This is far enough away from both Euphoria and Hangout for me to definitely hit up. I have this feeling HOF will turn out a dump of a line up, and if I go to waka, that will practically encompass some of Euphoria.
This was sucha pleasant suprise considering were months from hearing anything Bout next year.

The Reverberation Appreciation Society and I think the people who put on Fun Fun Fun Fest also help out but I could be wrong on that one.
Dave Maynar, promise me that Big Ears will be worth it.
No shit. This is super tempting.
I'm pretty sure I have a 4 man tent. Not saying I will put out but I'm also not saying I won't either. You never know how I may react with those sweet sweet psychedelic sounds.
For me, the only negative issue about this year is they pushed the dates back a week and it conflicts with the second weekend of Jazzfest. And this very well could mean that several of these artists will be playing in nola that same weekend. Gonna be a last minute decision that may not happen till March or April when all the Jazzfest late night shows are announced.
I'm 90% out. Had such a great time at the fest this year (def fest of the year) but I can't miss yazzfest, esp with my gf living in nola. Too easy and not nearly as much effort.
Also expecting some tight ass shiz at JF like Gilmour and ELO.

But Florence... And Modest Mouse.
Seriously though, this is going to stay on the back burner for now. I'm sitting at like 80% in and will commit for sure later. But, you know I'm not good at saying no.
Does this fest sell out? Do you think it will this time? Hoping the price doesn't jump to drastically, but that won't matter anyways if it sells out.

They also did levitation light in Chicago last year. Might not make it down if they do that again.

No, not aware of it ever selling out since they moved to Carson Creek Ranch. I could see the tickets maybe going up $30 when the lineup is announced, but that's just a guess.

Like Suriel mentioned, The Reverberation Appreciation Society are the people who founded Psych Fest/Levitation. The Reverberation Appreciation Society was founded by a member or two of The Black Angels. This past year they partnered with Transmission Events, who puts on FFF, and practically books anything worth while in Austin. C3 has really fallen off since Transmission stepped it up.
I'm not aaware of the reverb soc putting on anything else, besides the other Levitation offshoots that have popped up (France, Vancouver, Chicago).
Whoever they have as their head booking agents, I love them so hard...so hard!

I'm betting they will. They've been doing Levitation/Psych Fests all over and I don't see any of those coming to an end. They are almost entirely different lineup's though.
I got to thinking of a few names that would end this fight in my head.
Sunn O))) Windhand Wolf Eyes Circuit des Yeux Jenny Hval Weyes Blood
I need to see big ears lineup before I commit... but I want to commit so bad...
I'm in your boat but I'll say this. If I lived in spitting distance of one of these fests, I'd totally just do both. I couldn't live with myself if I didn't.
I wasn't fully joking yesterday, Ktown sits exactly halfway between RVA and AUS. This could be the greatest road trips in the history of road trips.

Yeah. I couldn't have swung big ears last time either but I managed to get a +1 wristband. After going to it though I would prioritize it over Roo. That lineup is crazy though.
Do they always do a pre-party on Thursday before the festival or am I just confusing that with something else?
They've been doing one downtown on the Thursday before since Carson Creek Ranch began hosting.
That's what I thought. Looking into Wednesday flights now.
Hung out with some friends this weekend who have been to both Big Ears and Levitation (when it was APF) and they said they'd go back to that in a heartbeat. Pretty much made up Mrs. GL's mind, I think.

Like Fuzzy said, they've been doing it in a venue or two in downtown Austin the past few years (1 show was at Mohawk last year).
However, it should be noted that these shows are NOT included with your weekend pass. You have to buy a separate ticket. But they're usually reasonable, maybe $20-25.

After going to Levitation last year and seeing the best compilation of artists in one weekend in my entire life, it is awfully hard not to be 100% on board with this again (especially with the initial lineup announcement!!!) as I live on the east coast I am curious to see what the shaky knees and levitation Chicago have to offer before purchasing this ticket. However if travel is hardly an issue for anyone looking to attend this fest I HIGHLY HIGHLY recommend it. Best group of festival attendees to be around and in such a great city in the best time of year.
