was camping fun this past year? do you recommend it even if I have a free place to stay?
I love camping at Roo (only fest ive camped out) and I bought a bunch of new supplies this year that I've only used at Roo this year. Also getting out at night was kind of a nightmare. But sleeping in an actual bed and showering is nice
can you bring your own alcohol to the camp sites? Is it easy to leave for the day in your car or you kind of stuck there for the weekend?
My friend brought a whole bottle of whiskey. I live 10 minutes away so Ill opt to sleep in my bed. I crashed at my friends tent for Euphoria Fest and apparently which was decent. Apparently they opened up a new area for psych that had more shade.

The only advantage to camping at Carson Creek for me would be not having to worry about travel to and from the fest. I haven't been since they've started the campground stage though. There were some wild events going on in the campgrounds when I went. I remember staff kept shooing a drum circle I took up with late Sunday night to different areas of the campgrounds and telling us to be quiet. I think they want you to buy alcohol from vendors inside the campgrounds. Not sure if I'm remembering that correctly.

I would keep that free place to stay in your back pocket until you know what the weather is going to do. Camping had to have sucked for those that set up thursday this year. Driving out of that bitch after the shows are over really sucks too because there's only that one exit and mass clusterfuck. Took us almost 2 hours to get out every night. Was definitely the worst on friday night because of rain/mud.

Camping was a blast. At the camp site there is an extra stage and you get to see more bands then if you were staying at a hotel. Granted they're mostly local bands but sit there are some really good acts there. Remember this fest is A LOT smaller then Bonnaroo so there is really no comparison between the two. Getting in and out of the camp ground paring area is no problem. I would put it on par with the parking at a Walmart. Actually, if I remember correctly the camping paring lot is a lot easier to get out of compared to the non-camping parking lot. I remember a lot of complaints on Facebook about it. Alcohol is not allowed to be brought in to the camping site and they sell beer there at a rather high price. But the way it is set up you drive in, park your car, drag your camping stuff to the gate to get checked in and then you go find your camping spot. *edit: So, a lot of people would leave their beer in their car and drink it there as you could tell by all the empty beer cans in the parking lot.* So it's a lot easier then Bonnaroo to leave and come back during the fest. I hope that makes sense.

yeah i will keep that in my back pocket, that friend is going to the fest too so it shouldn't be a problem. do they stop selling camping passes at any point? can i look at the weather and basically decide the week before or so to buy one?

def makes sense, thank you for the info.
I'm leaning towards doing camping next year. it sounds fun

I got my camping pass upon arrival Friday afternoon.
I just wish we could know what they mean by "soon" because if they are releasing it the same time as last year (January I believe) then I definitely don't consider that "soon"

Last year the initial lineup wasn't until December when they released the name of over 20 bands. And the full lineup (not including the campground stage) wasn't released until February. Maybe this year they are trying to get their lineup out their early to try and get some early buzz over the other fests going on at the same time.

That's what I was thinking. It'd help them get a jump on Shaky Knees at least.

I very much enjoyed camping, and plan to always camp when at Levitation.
To me, the two biggest advantages are no driving and the community in the camp grounds.
No driving is nice, because you don't have to fight the traffic leaving and there's no need for a DD if you plan on indulging a bit.
We had a group of 6 or 8 of us from Inforoo camping together.
The campground stage is really cool. Just smaller, local bands there, but I did see several very good shows there. Just a nice place to chill during the morning.
Technically, no outside alcohol is allowed in the campgrounds. You can buy beer from their General Store, but choices are limited and the prices aren't great. Not nearly what you'd be paying inside, but maybe $30 for a 12-pack? Don't know, never bothered to look. Having said that, you can get stuff to your campsite without too much of a hassle. Just don't be stupid about it. There's no one walking around checking in the campground, so if you made it past the initial security, you're good to go.
Regarding leaving location, that was no issue this past year. Parking lot was set up so you could come and go if you pleased.
And I think I saw you at Tame Impala this year! Were you over to the far left side, kinda by the speaker stack? I was just a little too out of it to try and make contact.
Think I hit all your questions, but feel free to ask more if you have any.
Oh, forgot that I saw Levitation post this on their FB page:
"The Elevation Amphitheater will return for 2016. We had to move the river stage in 2015 due to flooding and erosion from the 100 year record rainfall that we received during the week leading up to the festival. It was unsafe to install a stage in that area. Flooding and erosion also forced us to move the main stage, and other major pieces of festival infrastructure, resulting in a lot of aesthetic and logistic compromises. All of this was done in a 24 hour period, working overnight to completely reconfigure a layout we had spent months on perfecting. It was all redone in a day, and the festival was nearly cancelled several times throughout the weekend due to severe weather.
It's really a miracle that it happened at all and most amazing was the fact that Sunday, May 10th - the day that had the most dire forecast - not a drop of rain and against all odds a reunited 13th Floor Elevators celebrated their 50th anniversary!
What attendees experienced at the 2015 festival was a compromise at best and while it was a great weekend, we look forward to presenting our full vision for the festival in 2016!"
Had no idea all the changes happened within 24 hours of the fest. I would have sobbed like a baby if they canceled it, it was so fucking amazing.
I may end up camping and would love to join the RooCrew. How was the initial security check? Vehicles generally have plenty of places to hide stuff so Im sure you can get whatever through.

There was zero security check on your vehicle. You don't camp by your vehicle, so you end up hauling your stuff a few hundred yards into the camping area. It's the entrance to the camping area that has the security check. They go through your bags, how thorough depends on your person. You can come and go between the camping area/parking lot as you wish, so you might go through a few times to get a feel for them. Not going into any more detail here, but it shouldn't be too much of an issue if you know what you're doing.
We'll have to get a list going of who's camping as we get closer to the fest. More the merrier!

Thank you for the info! I think I'm definitely gonna try to camp this year, and I'd love to get in with the group from here too. Since apparently you don't have to buy the camping pass very far in advance, I may wait to see how the weather is before buying since I do have a place to stay, but I doubt it'll be bad two years in a row (knock on wood).
Can you bring in non-alcoholic drinks (like if I brought in a pack of water) and snacks? Or they strict on that too? Also do you set-up Thursday night or Friday morning?
And yeah that probably was me, can't remember exactly where I was (i was a bit out of it too) but I do remember being on the left side. Next year I wanna try to camp with you guys so we'll definitely see each other if that happens

Can't set up til Fri morning. And like Suriel said, all other food/non alcoholic drink is ok to bring.
So it looks like King Gizzard are definitely playing this. They just announced some tour dates that has them starting in NOLA on May 2nd. They played Levitation two years ago, and no way they don't start the tour there!
This lineup just gets better and better.
Hell, I almost expect The Mars Volta to reunite for this, the way they book to my tastes!
King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard Tour Dates
May 2 New Orleans, LA—Gasa Gasa May 3 Memphis, TN—The Hi Tone Cafe May 4 Nashville, TN—Mercy Lounge May 5 Atlanta, GA—The Earl May 6 Asheville, NC—Grey Eagle Tavern & Music Hall May 7 Indianapolis, IN—The Hi-Fi May 8 Chicago, IL—Lincoln Hall May 14 New York, NY—Bowery Ballroom May 15 Philadelphia, PA—Underground Arts May 25 San Francisco, CA—Independent May 27 Portland, OR—Mississippi Studios May 28 Vancouver, BC—Rickshaw Theatre
Can't believe they got the Royal Trux!! Thought they hadn't played since the late 90's, really hope they do a tour.
They played a fest in California earlier this year and are doing a New York show next weekend. Only two dates since they broke up so its an incredible grab for Levitation.
Caribou...always a fuck yes from me Nicolas Jaar...if there was one person I'd been hoping they'd grab, it's my boy Nico. So pumped about this one, can't even contain myself. Woods...one of my top 10 from Bonnaroo this year King Gizzard...always happy to see them Sunn O))) Boris Super Furry Animals SupeЯfuЯЯyanimal Dungen Oneohtrix Point Never
I seriously can't even wrap my mind around how they put together a lineup so fucking amazing.
Levitation, the best fest (for my tastes) in America.

Wow. That's awesome!
As for SFAs, this is the only year there was hope for them to play Roo. *fingers crossed* I assumed Coachella would get them again but these new dates give me hope.
