I liked last year's undercard at Lolla. Maybe my taste in music isn't refined enough for the private forumz.
you must have forgotten, they had the WEAKnd...LMAO!!!!
Yeah Weeknd and Sam Smith are not for me. Not like I would've chosen either of them over Macca or Metallica anyways though. But Tame Impala, OMAM, Alt-J, Alabama Shakes, A$AP. Tyler, Brand New, FlyLo, Father John Misty, Sylvan Esso.... The list goes on and on for shit I would've liked to see at Lolla last year.

Sylvan Esso and FlyLo were also both during Macca. Alt-J and Alabama Shakes overlapped and were at opposite ends at the park.
Tame Impala > Brand New > Metallica was a good run though.

Yeah I assumed the scheduling would've been unfortunate. But still I thought that undercard was stacked, especially considering their top 3 was so strong.
2017: 2/24 Twenty One Pilots 4/1 Radiohead 6/7 Glass Animals 9/10 Modest Mouse 9/21 Arcade Fire 9/29 Kings of Leon 10/3 Foster the People 10/17 The xx 10/22 LCD Soundsystem 11/8 Bon Iver
1. Radiohead 2. Kanye West 3. Mumford & Sons (Red Hot Chili Peppers) 4. LCD Soundsystem 5. Beck (The Strokes) 6. Ellie Goulding 7. Macklemore & Ryan Lewis 8. Jack U (Major Lazer)
My guesses now for the top 8. After the size of the crowd Ellie Goulding had in 2013, I could definitely see Lolla giving her the bump to headliner status.

FJM > Hot Chip > WoD > Alt J > Macca was a great day, and as you mentioned Saturday had a nice run as well. The undercard was better than you're giving it credit for.

He's gotta find something about it to make it seem inferior to Coachella.

Or, maybe I just actually didn't like the undercard. Crazy thought. I'm not into Alt-J and I want to punch FJM in the face. Fine, that's on me. But the other options during those sets were basically nothing. And no one is mentioning Sunday, because you really had to struggle to find more than two or three worthwhile bands.
Also, WoD had been touring really hard the two years before Lolla on the same album. I feel like most people who whom that band would have been a major selling point (like me) already had plenty of chances to see them.
I thought that Lolla had a competent undercard last year - or at least for big North American fest standards. Not much that was a rare grab, but they got most if the inoffensive bigger midcard acts that were touring that year. They didn't miss much that you'd reasonably expect them to book.

I'm gonna nitpick a little here. If you weren't into Alt J then you could have gone over to Alabama Shakes, or whatever else was playing at that time.
Sunday was the weakest day but Gogol > OM&M > TVOTR > Flo was still okay, at least for me.
It wasn't the greatest undercard they've ever had, but I felt like I got my money's worth.

Well you can almost always get your money's worth at Lolla. The fact it's so cheap is why I go almost every year, and I would have gonna last year had work not gotten in the way. But I really don't think I'm being that crazy thinking last year was one of their weakest undercards.

But was it Coachella's undercard?
Actually, most of those bands were on the Coachella undercard, and I wasn't crazy about them then either. But keep making that joke, big guy. Someone is bound to like it eventually.

If Lolla had Pitchfork's undercard last year in addition to it's own, it wouldve blown the year's festivals (except for Glastonbury) out of the water. Problem is is that Pitchfork nails good undercard acts, whereas Lolla shells out the dough for the expensive acts. If you wanna have a complete summer (excluding Kanye, because he seeminly never comes to Chicago anymore) just go to those two. Theyre only seperated by two weeks anyways.

DMB just announced their schedule for their 25th anniversary tour. Closest place to Chicago is Moline in June with a break on the 31st. Think the two both celebrating 25 years could be a gimmicky headliner possibility?
