I would be into that because I personally like Boards of Canada haha. But I will say if you go look at the number of streams Boards of Canada has, and then the amount someone like Leon Vynehall (who was mentioned yesterday as one of the great AEG bookings) get. I think it would be fair to say one clearly appeals to a larger audience.
But why do they need to appeal to a large audience? The tickets are already sold. Lollapalooza has the luxury to book artists who appeal to all sorts of musical tastes. Not doing that either comes from not caring or laziness.
To cater to the audience who purchased tickets expecting a certain product. Its about giving your audience what they want. They wanted acts like Radiohead, M83, Future, Two Door Cinema Club, ect. They didnt want random deep house DJs
Leon Vynehall is a rising dance act who makes really good stuff, he probably has one of the most consistent paths of anyone in electronic music right now. So yeah, booking him for any festival would be wonderful.
Still waiting on a response to my list of alleged elevator acts that no one wants to see.
Its neat that you are a fan. I dont think a festival booking him would be particularly unique or special in any way. If the demand for an artist is there, theyll get booked. No demand, then maybe theyll get a filler spot in a midday DJ tent if they are lucky and you can praise it as a genius booking strategy on a message board.
I am not going through your laundry list of acts one by one.
Like Juggs said, you criticize festivals for becoming homogenized, yet think booking interesting acts like Vynehall wouldn't be a good thing.

No where did I criticize festivals becoming hemogenized. In fact, I think the opposite. I think its a good thing. It means more people having access to shows they want to see conveniently and with similar experiences.
I will say it again, I do not agree with the mentality that unless an act plays the festival I am attending and only the one I am attending, that it is "lazy booking" or "filler." What it means is these companies are giving audiences exactly what they want.
What I criticized is the idea that one billion dollar company books the same acts as another billion dollar company; but in some peoples minds, the former is superior because at 1 out of their 8 festivals they also book random DJs that almost nobody cares about.

When did anyone say having one artist play just one festival is a good thing? Not everyone wants to see the same recycled artists year in and year out.
You continue to harp on the same points, but ignore counter-evidence to your claim that these alternate acts are only "random DJs that almost nobody cares about."

it's cause gov ball didn't book any interesting acts.

It was a decent lineup, but I much preferred Panorama's.

Hey dipshit, I don't care that "nobody cares" about "random DJs." I care about random DJs, and I like it when festivals book random DJs that I like. I in fact like those festivals MORE than ones that don't book shit I like. Others are expressing the same opinion. This is not a hard concept.

But dude, don't you want to see Flume, Cage the Elephant, Grouplove, ODESZA and friends for the thirteenth time?

Not only that, but I remember reading an interview w/Matt Beringer for Latitude. He talked about one fest gig paying for the National's entire tour early on in their career.
He basically said that if they had missed that gig, the band wouldn't exist. I'll try and find it when I get home.
