Fuck you, Livenation. Dump Major Lazer for Despacio plz.
Why would they dump a massively popular dance act which allegedly out-drew Radiohead just to feature a tiny little dance tent featuring a couple of dudes spinning vinyl records which draws literally nobody? If you're looking for a nicely curated and nuanced festival featuring neat little featurettes like this, you might want to stay away from the LN cesspool.

Yeah man, support the other billion dollar company, the one with the H&M line. Pepsi is way better than Coke!

I really, really don't understand the draw of Major Lazer. I don't hate Diplo (yeah, he's a dick but whatever) or Walshy Fire, and I like Jillionaire. But I also don't get the popularity of this act. I saw them in like 2012 and then again in 2015. Both shows were weak. I skipped Waka Main Stage '15, though I should note that some people I know who don't otherwise like Major Lazer said that set was good. Partial streams I've seen since weren't any good for me. I had a few minutes of Lolla's on the other night, and the power blew among other things. But I don't get how that could out-draw Radiohead?!?!?!? wtf? I guess younger and younger people are coming out and supporting what they think or hear is cool. But like I said the other night, if you're only 14 or 15 and in the front row for GRiZ, you ought to know at least one of his songs. All those utes in the front were getting into that show, but few of them knew any of the songs, and the ones who did stuck out.

I guess you gotta start somewhere...
They're an absolute shit show. I caught 15 minutes of the at EForest due to the wife wanting to see them and in that 15 minutes DIplo cut off 4 different drops. Literally built them up anddddddddd NOPE. We also were told to 1.) Get on a knee and pray 2.) Sit down 3.) Take our shirts off. And again, this was only during 15 minutes of the show. I cant imagine standing there for 90 minutes on that nonsense.
I mean, I understand your weird little vendetta against all things Goldenvoice related, but even you have to admit that out of all the major festivals, they're really the only one who seems to go out of their way to book or feature stuff like Despacio. Hell, none of the other big fests even have something comparable to the Yuma tent. There's no reason for them to do so (they'd sell all their tickets regardless) but they do anyhow.
They only have anything like Yuma at 1 out of their 8 festivals. And only 2 out of their 8 had Despacio this year. I will say Despacio was really fucking cool though.
Really no vendetta in this case. I just think festivals in general have become homogeneous and nothing really differentiates one from another. Same type of crowd (if they are actually successful), same food, same bands. I mean how much of the Coachella lineup was also on Lollapalooza this year? Some of this years Lolla lineup is already going to be on Coachella next year. Same shit, different locale. But I mean if you like the desert more than the city, right on.
I just generally want Despacio and Major Lazer was the first act I could pick off the current ACL Line Up. I replace the previous choice of "Major Lazer" with "Wesley Bray and the Disciples of Joy." Quack those suckers!

FYF has The Woods stage and regularly places Yuma-type acts in the Arena. At Panorama this year, the Pavilion was clearly meant to resemble the Yuma, but included some more widely recognized but great dance acts like Kaytranada and Classixx.

What exactly is special about The Woods or Arena stage at FYF?
The difference is the acts that play there obviously.
Flying Lotus, Bonobo, Kaytranada, and BadBadNotGood were the big acts at the Arena stage at FYF last year. Only Horse Meat Disco played The Woods. None of these are exactly huge gets that no other festival is landing.

That's the point... Aren't we talking about Yuma tent type stages? You compared them to Perrys lol.

I was talking about The Arena at FYF and The Woods at FYF (neither of which are Yuma type tent stages) and pointing out that nothing is special about either.
Please find me other multigenre American festivals booking the likes of Horse Meat Disco, Leon Vynehall, Dixon, etc.
He has no interest in doing that. For instance, when I brought up Coachella as an indicator that hey, these big fests can go ahead and book interesting shit alongside the festival filler, he basically ignored that point and instead just stated that lots of acts that played Lollapalooza also played Coachella. Which had legitimately nothing to do with the point which was being addressed.
Definitely getting deja vu, I think we went over this before and he ignored it then too.

I also think that has a lot to do with the general feel of the festival, even though I think Lolla (of all the big festivals) could book a ton of interesting stuff if they wanted to, and come away fine.
Lolla's a commercial festival, more so than all others. It's gonna go for commercial acts. I doubt you'll ever see Underworld, Kamasi, or Melody's Echo Chamber on a Lolla lineup. But on the other hand, it sells out blind yearly anyway, so it could happen.
If people cared about seeing those acts they would get booked. Nobody is buying a $400 festival ticket to see Horse Meat Disco at a concrete stage with confetti hanging off of strings overhead.

That's what Pitchfork fest is for. Lolla gets some undercard gems like them but Pitchfork usually nabs most of them

That doesn't even address my question at all.
Okay I will answer it. No other multigenre American festival is booking obscure nonsense that nobody cares about; and you can see for $15 at a Brooklyn venue multiple times a year, except for Coachella (1 out of 8 festivals booked by AEG, and the only one of theirs that consistently does good business)
What is launchpad even arguing at this point? That it's better to book festivals with filler rather than interesting acts?
That all festivals are pretty much the same now.
But it has been pointed out to me that if an obscure DJ performs in a corner somewhere at 3 in the afternoon and 8 people care about seeing them and 8 others show up trying escape the heat; thats what truly amounts to greatness.

I miss the days when you were talking about which shows your folks found enjoyable and other people were commenting on the quality of Radiohed and LCD sets. This thread went off the rails fast.
