Haha thanks. I didn't look too hard at ACL after it didn't look like we'd be able to do a Columbus Day roll to Austin. And since I was going to Bear Creek Bayou, I was only going to be able to get a little of the stream. Turns out they have a pretty strong cross to Voodoo. C3, if they also promote ACL for Live Nation, must have gotten some package deals with some of the performers. A 2016-styled fast casual glance at the lineup would give me a top 10 want to see of:
Radiohead M83 LCD Soundsystem Break Science Kendrick Lamar LL Cool J and Z-Trip Cage the Elephant Flying Lotus Banks and Steelz (RZA and the bass player who I think used to be singer for Interpol) Schoolboy Q who I've seen or two door cinema club or catfish and the bottlemen who I haven't
We trying to get a GroupMe going for all the weekend two folks?
That's a good idea. If someone starts it I'd join. But I hate setting that shit up.
Also, can we get another count on who all is W2?
I know me, Rothric, FuzzyWarbles, @jordanq12, liz, yeezy & I forget who else are in for either part or all of the weekend.
I know I'm at least going to the stage Radiohead plays before Foals. There are a few other acts I'd like to see elsewhere before then. Stay in touch and I'll see you there. Friday is the only day I'm going to the fest unless I score a mega deal on a Saturday pass.
I have a weekend pass, but I'm letting my roommate take my wristband for Saturday and skipping that day. A few acts II want to see Saturday, but only passively and I've seen most of them. So we'll be there Friday and Sunday. I want to see Die Antwoord, I actually forgot they were playing tbh. I haven't really looked at the line up/schedule in a while. Lol

That's such a love or hate act for a lot of people. Even our house is split on them. I am the sole take it or leave it guy. They are loud, obnoxious, annoying and energetic. I think I liked Sleigh Bells a little better as a comparison, but Die Antwoord will give you a show. The last two times they played here (one being mid-fest Buku), they blew out the sound. Lmfao. The punk in me can't hate that shit, but they do annoy me at times.
Fwiw, I think Saturday is overall the best day by a good bit. I've seen a lot of the acts I'd be at too either live or streamed. But if it hooks up a friend, you gotta do that shit too.

I saw Die Antwoord at Riot Fest 2014. My only regret was that I wasn't closer. I was way way back with the casual fans and talkers. The whole time I wanted to get up close, but I had also just gotten there and didn't feel like fighting the crowd.
Saturday for me is only ok. If I were going I'd have 0 conflicts and enough to fill my day for sure. But nothing really really draws me in. It would be pretty much all my hip hop for the fest tho. I'm sad I'm missing Gallant & Anderson .Paak & Schoolboy Q (all of which I've never seen before). And LL Cool J would be fun just to check out. But nothing I'm super heartbroken over.
Flying out Wednesday night. Most of my schedule is full but open to suggestions as far as some of the earlier sets. Also wouldn't mind some food recommendations from locals if possible. Can't wait for Radiohead!
Food & Drink :
Pizza - Via 313 behind Craft on Rainey
Cocktails - 1/2 Step on Rainey(Tequila , order a Medicina Latina.......Whiskey, order a Safety Word)
BBQ - Iron Works (if staying downtown), Lamberts ( GET THE BOAR WINGS!!!), Brown's (Food Truck ..S Lamar), Valentina's (Food Truck...Brodie and W Cannon)
Street Tacos - Jefe's (Food Truck on S 1st and Ben White...open till 3am)
Burger - Hopdoddy's (S Congress)
Breakfast - Magnolia Café(S Congress), Kerby Lane (S Lamar)
It's Hopdoddy's* and William Cannon (it looks like West Cannon the way that is written) on that last suggestion. But those are all good. Esp Magnolia's, it's a 24hour diner. I've never been to some of those places myself, so I'll have to check them out too.
I'll add that Green Mesquite is good BBQ and it's on Barton Springs. And there are lots of good food trucks around town, especially on S 1st. There are Torchy's everywhere for good, cheap tacos. I know its a "toursity" thing, but they're still good. My favorite so far. Bouldin Creek Cafe on S. 1st is really good too. It's all vegetarian, but as someone who loves her meat it's still really good- particularly for brunch.

If you find yourself crawling down Sixth on the way to an aftershow and are in need of a bite, Bestwurst is a cart with really good brats. I've heard that Via 313 is the best pizza Austin had to offer but I've yet to try it. Home Slice on South Congress has good slices.
Damn, y'all aren't trying to get me fat haha. Definitely going to check out a lot of these recs.
Biggest issue you will have is timing. The whole city is on a wait during ACL. Recommendations from me of some of the quick stuff:
Burgers - Casino El Camino on 6th. We've had lots of burgers in Austin over the years. They are the best and have the best toppings for cheap places.
Gordough's - need to hit their truck on Lamar for a donut sandwich or two. Particularly the fried chicken breast on glaze with the maple butter.
Mexican Interior - Go with Polvo's. I'm a sucker for their cerveza fajitas but their salsa bar including green, Red and charred varieties along with pickled vegetables are all great.
BBQ - I'd go to Lockhart for the trifecta of Blacks, Kreutz and Smittys. But it's a haul. I'm not big on County Line or Salt Lick, though Salt Lick is at the festival and neither of them suck per se. Blacks opened up Blacks Smokehouse in Austin itself. And then you have Micklethwait at ACL, so you should be covered with bbq.
We've had lots of good tacos. People love Torchy's and they are at the fest. Best I've had was a truck on the east side, but Taco Express is also pretty excellent.
It's a town full of cheap places to eat where the quality exceeds what you'd expect for less than 10.00. You will want to hit some food truck trailer parks where you can get that variety. There is an app that shows you where the mobile ones are at on a given day though many are always in the same spot.

Good call on Casino El Camino and Gourdough's (although, I would recommend just getting a donut for dessert from Gourdough's rather than their food. Their Cake Batter Doughnut is UNREAL!!!!!)
Not a fan of Polvo's........more of a fan of Little Mexico, which is half a block down from Polvo's on S First.
And for BBQ, if you are traveling in, I say skip the hassel of traveling to Lockhart or Dripping Springs.......I've had Salt Lick, Opie's, Blacks, and Kreutz's, and none of it was any better than the BBQ in Austin( Brown's, Ruby's, Franklin, Iron Works, etc......)
Via 313 in also located in Violet Crown off East 6th and, if your are staying far south, 290/71 by William Cannon.
For some badass cheap Thai cuisine, 888 off E Oltorf is open til 3am on weekends.
Pan Asian: Koriente. It is super small so may be packed, but food is also cheap and by the plenty. Sometimes they also give you free bubbletea. It is on 7th Red River by the Barracuda fka Red 7
Pre Game: Halcyon on 4th n Lavaca has a amazing lil cocktails, including coffee and summer inspired. Their Long Island Iced Coffee is satanic how fucked one will get you.
Royal Blue Grocery: I like these places downtown where you can just pop open a bomber and eat a decent little sandwich, snacks n people watch.
Barton Springs Saloon: its right there by the fest.
Also for 24 hour eating there is, in order of preference: Kirby Lane 24 Magnolia Cafe Starseeds Cafe (up north) Whataburger
Honorable mention: Bouldin Creek Cafe of SS1st. Mostly or all vegan but its delicious. Best veggie burger ive ever had that competes w most meat based burgers. Great for people watching.
Whole Foods: because its a fucking circus in there.
Super late til 4am fun: Barbarellas Kingdom Vulcan I think....
Places to avoid: I know you have to try it, but anything on 6th between congress and red river aside from the Parish, Jackalope, Casino, and Vulcan. Baby A's Stubbs BBQ (for BBQ) Eastside Pies,Southside Flying Pizza (shit garbage pizza)
I've been to Polvo's probably 8 or 9 times, and it's never ever disappointed me. I'll need to try Little Mexico though, as I've not had them. The cerveza fajitas are probably my favorite fajitas on the planet. I also appreciate the squeezed lime juice in my margarita. One thing I didn't know about that I learned about in Austin is that many of the smaller places make wine margaritas. F that. Give me the damn tequila.
For BBQ, we did the triple Lockhart hit about 4 years in a row. I think Kreutz has the best smoked prime rib I've ever eaten. Blacks sometimes does the giant beef rib bones (as opposed to baby back pork ones) which are dynamite. We've also gotten smoked thick pork chops from there. I also like their sausage. Smitty's is generally good as well, and I like their German/Czech sausages. I still need to hit Iron Works, and then Franklin's is kind of a no-go, as I'm not ever lining up at 6:30/7:00am to sit and wait a few hours for bbq. Like you said, you can get decent elsewhere. We actually tried a place (it was a bar) near UT last time I was down there which was also pretty great. I can't remember the name. I just remember that my boy's car got towed out of the 7/11 by some Nazi tow patrol company.

Yeah, that Flagship Whole Foods is a trip. That is king. I forgot about Wholly Burger that is at ACL. They're in Zen Food Mart which is that great beer store just down the block on Lamar from Gordough's truck and Lattitude 40 pizza which is also pretty damn good (across the street from Gordough's but on the same side as Zen). I'd probably get me one of those at the fest.
Yeah, people hate on Baby A's, but it's never been all that bad when I've gone. Once I got veggie fajitas there which were borderline excellent. Their salsa is okay. I'm not wild about the purple margaritas that people love, and unless you're a fan of 190 Everclear, I'd avoid those. There's obviously better Tex-Mex, but it's kind of an Austin hallmark - like hitting up Shady Grove for a bowl of Texas Red Chili or whatever. Damn, I'm hungry as **** and am on a self-imposed Healthy Choice diet for a couple of days due to savage consumption at Bear Creek. :crying:
My buddy that I'm staying with works at a BBQ joint so I'll for sure be checking that out but besides that I'm going to visit a bunch of these. Sounds like Austin folk eat welll haha.
Will need the energy for all the great music. Can't wait to fly out tomorrow!
Haha. I've watched many night basketball games there at the outside bar. I actually like Pluckers, but I'm a sucker for wings as long as they aren't undercooked. It's cheap and they have large beer mugs.
We'll get a decent variety of new songs this week from what they played last week. would be great to get FPT - they broke that out for the first time in close to 7 years last night
