I don't think he is. I think he was just making an observation on the general quality of festival lineups this year.
The thing that I'm taking away from this is that festival homogenization is a very real thing. Looking at the big LiveNation fests this year, there is a very clear pattern that emerges, with slight tweaks to fit the specific format/demographic of each festival, but more or less hitting the same notes overall.
That's how I feel. Its not a bad line uo but depending on what part of the country you are in, you can see a similar fest at another time of year.
Its not a bad line up, but just generic which is to be expected from ACL.

Ive been warning that the lineups are going to become more and more similar for years now. Eventually it is going to come down to where you want to see the shows. Indio, NYC, farm in TN, raceway in DE, Austin TX, take your pick.
In this case I'm not so sure it's bad thing. It's easy to write off Radiohead and LCD because "you can see them anywhere." But they are two acts the average fest goer worships and seeing them at a fest like this is a bargain value.
I was listening to the Sasquatch podcast and in the first episode they interviewed the promoter. He said a few years ago they had some debate if they should book Outkast since they were going to play 40 other fests. At the end of the day they wanted Outkast on the bill because they knew they were an audience favorite.
I think people need to stop looking at festivals and unless it has something like an ultra rare first Underworld US show in 7 years, it's "uninspired." If it has enough acts you like to justify going, go. If it doesn't stay home. These events are no longer unique onto themselves.
This is fine, but it's a lesser Lolla. People are getting confused by seeing Kendrick and making the mental swap of him and JCole/Future. This is missing a lot of undercard stuff that people take for granted in 2016 lineups.
ACL has heavy smaller/niche fest competition that may gobble up all those "rarities", so they must go for what they know will knock it out of the park. Funfunfun last year grabbed Janes Addiction, Wu Tang, NoFX, DeAngelo > Lauryn Hill, Grimes, Gogol Bordello, Schoolboy Q, Venom, Cheap Trick which would have all added unique qualities to the line up.
Levitation snagged Ween, Animal Collective, Brian Wilson. Although at least we see Flying Lotus again for those who missed him.
Even tiny ass Floatfest this year grabbed acts like Bone Thugz n Harmony, Santigold, Yeasayer, Kongos, Future Islands, Metric which would all make me more excited about ACL if they were on that line up.
Looks like funfunfun will have grabbed At The Drive In at least.
Without doing any digging, this is more than enough to get me excited for this lineup.
Radiohead, Kendrick, LCD, Willie, Flume, M83, Local Natives, Foals, Cage the Elephant, Miike Snow, Flylo, Anderson .Paak, Conor Oberst, Bob Moses, Jack Garratt, The Front Bottoms, Frightened Rabbit, Gallant, Flight Facilities, Chairlift, Raury, The Wombats, Nao, Honne, Haelos

Well, of course you stay home if there aren't enough acts you like. But what's wrong with looking at any one of the cookie-cutter lineups from this year and describing them as "uninspired?" That's exactly what they are. And I know you'll just call me a Coachella homer for this, or whatever, but part of the reason I actually liked that lineup was because of the unique/special bookings which made it stand out from the field. That's kind of the whole point - it's why you go to your local burger bar instead of just settling in for yet another Big Mac.
What about Coachella was so unique? Other than Underworld and 2manyDJs (which were sparsely attended and not a draw for anyone but the die hards) almost every act on that bill is either playing other festivals or doing a tour. You could say it was because of the sheer number of acts you personally wanted to see. Well that's subjective, but I happen to agree with it. So then you need to ask yourself why that is. And the answer is they have the largest talent budget with a $400+ ticket price to go along with that. This event is $250+ and the lineup more than justifies that cost in my subjective opinion. Compare apples to apples. If ACL started charging $150 more, but they threw in one or two acts like an Underworld or 2manyDJs. Maybe it would make you or I happier, but we are in a bubble. Its not going to really move the needle for the majority of attendees. I think your average fest goer would actually be pissed about a price increase in that instance.
I'm gonna go ahead and say that, while there's a lot of weak spots in the whole thing, that top 4 is really good (I'll admit I like me some Mumford tho). I am kinda disappointed with the second line though, save Willlie.
Overall, it's good enough to make me upset I can't go this year.

We are never going to see eye to eye on this, so I'll just let it go. I find the vast majority of festivals to be completely boring and homogeneous, particularly those which fall under the LiveNation umbrella.
Radiohead is doing two LiveNation fests and no AEG fests (the MSG shows are AEG though). LCD is doing three for AEG, three for LiveNation. Mumford is doing one AEG and one LiveNation. Kendrick is doing two AEGs, one LiveNation. GnR did an AEG fest and are now touring everywhere for LiveNation. It's the same shit everywhere. It's all homogenous.
And if you are looking at the FYF lineup and salivating: a Jagwar Ma fall tour is happening. Air is doing at least an NYC date that I'm aware of. That really leaves Moby as the only unique booking. Which again, you and I are into. But your average fest goer couldn't care less about.

Anohni and Grace Jones are pretty unique bookings for FYF.

Fest booking has more to do with tour routing than anything else. I don't have intel on those two particular acts, but id be willing to guess they'll have other dates. But if I'm wrong how many people do you really think are buying tickets to FYF based on those two acts? The vast majority of tickets will be sold based off LCD and Kendrick. Who are also playing here.

I haven't been following this argument at all. I just noticed you didn't mention two of the weirdest bookings on that lineup, both of which are pretty high on the poster.
And I'm seriously considering this fest based on ANOHNI among other acts. That's a HUGE get for me though.

So many kids i went to high school with that i for some reason still follow on twitter are bitching soooo much about this lineup lmao they maaaad. They sound like spoiled children.
Do both weekends normally sell out and if so, how soon?
What will the secondary market be like? This will actually be my first.
Both weekends sell out. First weekend usually goes the quickest. There are always people getting tickets on the secondary market and scalpers out front. I personally have sold a ticket at door price outside the festival, but I know that you can probably get them a bit cheaper according to my Austin friends, I just personally have never tried. But I am pretty sure I am going that route this year.
I think they're really disappointed Kanye or RHCP aren't on there, but i really don't know. One of them told me to "gtfo because i dick ride bands that used to be great." I told him he dick rides Kanye so.... I'm assuming he was referring to Radiohead, but that wouldn't make sense considering their music just seems to get better and better.
Was planning on Weekend 1 but Anderson Paak and Willie are Weekend 2 so guess i'm going Weekend 2 now.
Anderson Paak was hot fire at Coachella. Would love to see him again.
He reached another level with those Coachella sets. I hope they put him on a main stage. He deserves it, plus he's only going to get bigger from now to October.
