might be too silly, but Best Friend is a tremendous amount of fun and a great space. it's Roy Choi's vegas restaurant, korean/mexican fusion. vegan options if anyone is vegan. everything we ate there was delicious. the front of the restaurant looks like a bodega, but then in the back it's a big room with lots of table space suitable for a big group.
the menus look like a high school yearbook. it's a ridiculous place, not sure if the group you are booking for would vibe with that, but it'll definitely get people talking.
edit for pics:
stlallison is a big Roy Choi stan so that is already in the cards lol. Any additional recommendations?
so one of the best meals we ever had was at Rose Rabbit Lie in the Cosmopolitan. Unfortunately it closed, but reopened as Superfrico, seems like it's the same deal as RRL but a different theme, described as "American Italian Psychedelic". it's basically a dinner theater experience, you'll have performers singing and dancing on tables and shit.
we were also fans of China Poblano in the Cosmopolitan, probably more moderate rather than upscale, but a solid place from Jose Andres.
and i know it sounds cheesy or touristy or whatever but Hells Kitchen is badass. really incredible hamburger, other Gordon Ramsay mainstays.
per action bronson and many others, Lotus of Siam is one of the best restaurants in Vegas. i've never been but am finally correcting that in June.
EDIT: oh its been years, but we had a dinner at Veranda at the Four Seasons and it was AWESOME. their sunday brunch buffet is also completely out of this world. i don't really do buffets anymore, the value just isn't there, but if you are going to do one do that one.
also FYI not sure when your trip is, but the Voltaggio brothers are doing a pop-up restaurant in Mandalay Bay called Retro. we booked a rez, i hope i get to meet them i love Brian.
Also, I am going to Detroit for a work conference in August. Any pointers on places to hit up? By places, I mean breweries, restaurants, art museums, parks. Bonus points for things more toward downtown. I should have my passport by then as well, so I can pop over the river to Canada for something.

Not upscale, but my favorite place to eat in Las Vegas was the Cornish Pasty Company. It was our go-to place to take people when they visited. www.cornishpastyco.com/
Primarily for 3post1jack1 but for anyone else: do you have any good restaurant recommendations for a moderately upscale Vegas restaurant for a large group? Planning for a large dinner and I don’t necessarily want to do a traditional steakhouse.

^^^watched that whole video when it dropped, really good stuff.
i think i posted it in this thread a while back but that same couple do a video where they stayed at every hotel on the strip, also a great video. they seem like a fun couple.
I will say much of my trip remains unoutlined with some vague notions of what I want to do, but perhaps the silliest thing anyone in my group is doing is that a lesbian friend of mine, in a true victory for gender equality, is going to an all-female burlesque show and Chippendales on separate nights.

I'm gonna be flying standby to London approximately from the 19th-23rd. It's a completely impromptu trip, so I have no accommodation or activities planned as of yet. I've been before but when I was much younger and the only other time was for a wedding, so I've essentially never gone as an adult. Any recommendations for such a small time? I plan on walking around about 90% of the time, don't plan on leaving the city and don't care so much for the touristy shit, unless it's a can't-miss-museum. Other than that, places to stay? Restaurants, venues, things to see/do, etc, would be much appreciated. Not above hostels and that ilk of a trip. Thanks!

Leeds are playing at Westham in London on the 21st, in case you happen to like English football. I have no affinity for either club but I'd love to take in an EPL match some day.

turkish restaurants up on green lanes are great. I really enjoyed hamstead heath and queens/highgate wood. southamptom arms and other pubs up that direction are great
Gonna be in Madison WI for a week this week. Anything I should check out? Might hit up the senses fail show
<3 caribou tavern, stopped there a couple times on the way to chicago
anyone have lyon / se france recommendations?
I've only been to Nice in SE France but it was incredible. Go. Also a short train ride from Liguria, Italy which is my favorite place I've ever visited. Best food in the world imo
I heard Lyon is pound for pound the best food scene in France.
I’m in the very early stages of planning a long weekend in Savannah in October. Anybody got anything to say about that?
not since they tore down Trash Bar. it was the greatest bar on the planet. they had a pool table, a table top pac man video game, and both kinds of beer on tap (busch light and busch heavy). the juke box was all asian songs except for "Put Me In Coach" by John Fogerty and "You Never Even Called Me By My Name" by David Allan Coe so we just listened to those two songs all night. plus you could drink underage there no problem. i used my CT "Harrison Hood" fake ID i'd ordered from the internet.

not sure if your trip has already happened, but I attended two large dinners this past week, one at Bardot Brassiere (french comfort food, michael mina) and the other at Carbone (midcentury NYC Italian). we had 18 people at the former and probably like 30 at the latter, they handled both groups really well with price fixe menus. was thrilled with everything i ate. expensive but i wasn't picking up the tab. Bardot was super frenchy meat heavy, pate (the pate was my favorite) and headcheese and steak and tartars, all fuckin awesome but a lot of beef. Carbone was by no means light, but was lighter than Bardot by comparison. My favorite dish was a really simple vodka sauce rigatoni, it was just perfect. i'd return to either restaurant no problem.
also finally ate at Lotus of Siam, it was awesome. since they specialize in northern thai i ordered off the northern menu. Thum Ka Noon, which is a shredded young jackfruit salad, and Kha Nom Jean Nam Ngyow, a tomato based stew with pork, spare ribs, vermicelli noodles, fried garlic, and optional blood chunks. Server asked if i wanted the blood chunks and i was like hell yeah. Spice level 1-10, I went with 5 and it was quite spicy. Totally lived up to the hype, great service, loved the food. After dinner the server asked me if i used to live in thailand (because of the dishes i ordered) which made me feel like a special good food person. anyway they do have the space available for large groups, but even on a tuesday at 6:45pm i needed a res, place was packed. off strip, 5-15 drive depending on where you are. more expensive then your typical thai place, less expensive then your typical strip place.
lastly, if you want a reasonably priced (for vegas) omakase, I really enjoyed Edomae Kabuto in chinatown. very small place! sushi bar and a few tables, but the tables when i was there were pushed together for one large group. rez required. everything was delicious, favorite part of the meal was the nigiri course, which was 12 pieces one after the other, was fun sitting at the bar and watching the chef prepare them.

Nope, going in July. So far we’ve reserved for Best Friend, Jaleo, and Yardbird for brunch. I’m trying to get a Superfrico reservation but the group reservation process for that place has been a hassle so far. If it doesn’t shake out though I’ll definitely consider those other places too. Heard a lot about of Lotus of Siam but sadly don’t think we’ll have much opportunity to do anything off Strip.

can't believe no one else commented on this earlier. These are verbatim lyrics to a Drive-By Truckers song.

oh good, I didn't know that but I was about to defend the honor of "Center Field" by John Fogerty.

Restaurants we are planning on hitting up for our vegas 10YA trip over the 4th:
Bouchon Heritage Steak Best Friend Retro by Voltaggio Mott 32 Tournament of Kings at Excalibur
We usually end up cancelling at least one. And it's always a Collichio restaurant. Which is why we put Heritage Steak on night two of the trip, so hopefully we don't skip it.
And after that night we are seeing STS9/Desert Dwellers/Crystal Method at Area 15.

lol I went to Tournament of Kings once when I lived in Vegas when I was about 12. I enjoyed that experience though so hopefully you will as well!
I'll be going about two weeks later; we'd been scrounging around to see if there were any good shows passing through or not. I wanted to see Usher but everyone in my group pooh-poohed that idea. Eventually I just thought "fuck it" and checked to see how much tickets were to go solo and they were $450 so that's a no for me. I actually just checked though and 2 Chainz is actually coming to Drai's so maybe I should go to that.

I assumed Harrison Hood was a reference to the Phish song
