Just did a quick look at the last show they played and there’s a guy that has seen them 171 times.
I like too much music to see one band that much. I’m just starting to creep up on 20 for Clutch in 20 years.
it definitely has cut into the amount of other bands i see. i've still seen a bunch of different live shows but as time goes on i see fewer and fewer. lot of vacation time and travel expenses to see phish. i'll probably get tired of it eventually.
just did a quick remove duplicates on my live show history and i've seen 386 unique acts. that includes some stand up comedians though.

1267 shows of 797 different bands.
damn that impressive!
anyway i'm about to stop seeing phish and start seeing king gizz instead. king gizz is my new favorite band.

Just found out NYC schools have a midwinter break in addition to a spring break... which is sick.
Looking for ideas for a trip either February 19-25 or March 22-30. Would love to see some music or a festival, but also open to general travel. Right now my leading option is Mexico City.

Dunno how flexible the March 22 date is but if you want weird and jazz then Big Ears is that weekend in Knoxville, TN.
There's also Treefort Music Fest.
Good news? It's a solid lineup this year. Bad News? It's in fucking Idaho.
Was in Brooklyn last weekend and just want to share a couple of positive recommendations I can make:
Nami Nori (williamsburg): hand roll sushi, second time eating there and still excellent. Mochi churros with lemon curd is one of my favorite desserts I can remember having
Ivan Ramen (LES): worth the hype and an episode of Chef’s table IMO. Came out incredibly quick and warmed the soul on a chilly evening
Brooklyn Bowl: first time seeing a show here! Moon Taxi stink but The Stews are only getting better and better, and the vibes and sound quality were pretty terrific. Easy to get a beer too
Spike Lee Exhibit at Brooklyn Museum: really really fun exhibit for fans of film, music or sports. One room was showing excerpts from BlackkKlansman and when I went through it showed the raw footage from the Unite The Right Rally in august of 2017 in Charlottesville, my hometown, which plays toward the end of the film. Might have wanted a trigger warning for that but it’s impact was incredibly powerful and made me tear up reliving what happened just a couple miles from the house I grew up in.
The Brooklyn Public Library was closed so we didn’t get to see the Jay-Z exhibit unfortunately, would love to hear if anybody in here has had the chance to check it out

I've heard that Idaho is really pretty, but I'm guessing that might not be Boise area? I love the Big Ears lineup so definitely will consider that! And might be able to get my Adrianne Lenker-obsessed friends to go. Thanks for the recs!

I spent some time in Boise and actually really like it. I couldn't do recommendations though as it's been over 20 years since the last time I was there. I always look at that lineup and always wanna go.
Knoxville is a great city, imo. Tons of good eats and an easy city to walk. Its full of southern charm and That goes a long ways with me.

I lived in Knoxville until I was 27. Since then, I’ve lived in (essentially) four different cities in two different states, all very different from each other. Current plan is that the next place we move will be back to Knoxville.

i don't know if this is bad but pretending like i know french but just saying a bunch of gibberish in a french accent and ending every sentence with "aw fron say" is one of my favorite things to do. i think it's so funny.
Not necessarily travel but i have a friend who just moved to Aurora and is looking for vet recommendations
don't know any vets but if your friend is a live music person make sure they hit up Wayne Stock at Adlai Stevenson Memorial Park. pretty sure the only bands who show up are Crucial Taunt, Aerosmith, and Rip Taylor but still looks like a cool fest.

they quite literally only listen to illenium. i am trying so hard.
I may have lived there for a year, but it was a long time ago, so my food recs would be very outdated. I don't really have too many things unique except to say there are a lot of smaller, more unique museums in addition to the big ones. So if you have a favorite French artist, there might be a smaller museum that tickle your fancy. Ex. Monet, Rodin.
Welcome back Bonz, but I do not find it strange that your presence being requested in the Orgy thread and then you showing up, like it was the quacking Bonzai Bat Signal.
Is there any must do’s in Toronto? I’ve been but it was 20 some odd years ago and what I knew then isn’t the same as now.
Areas to look into staying? Hotel recommendations? Restaurants? I’d be on foot and solo (unless one of you jerkstores has a love for metal and burritos and bad 90’s sitcom humor).

My mom and I will fly out to California for America's Got Talent Full Audition. Which is February the fourth at the convention center in Pasadena the same day as the Grammy Awards.

Wow, Michael Jackson first performed the Moonwalk in public on March 25, 1983 at the Pasadena Civic Auditorium. Y'all should re-enact it!
My DJ company may be sending me out to Memphis for two gigs on NYE weekend. Never been to Memphis so I’m weighing my decisions. What should I expect there that weekend ? Any recs on places to hit up? Gigs would be the 30th and 31st.
What part of town are you staying? Where are the gigs?
I highly recommend spending some time at the national civil rights museum. Right behind it is central BBQ and half a block away is the wiseacre brewery. That's a good days worth great history, food, and beer. Central probably has the best smoked wings in the city but the nachos are good too. They're ribs and pulled pork are top 5. Imo best ribs are cozy corner (downtown) or the BBQ shop (midtown). If you aren't in the mood for BBQ Gus's fried chicken is on main about a block and half from the museum and wiseacre. Also nearby is Ernestine and hazels, and century old brothel turned bar that's supposedly haunted. Their soul burgers is great.
The rock and soul museum is a remote Smithsonian right off Beale by the Fed ex forum and it's an interesting tour through musical history of the South, the development of rock and roll. If you stroll down Beale there's probably something going on, it's closed to cars and plenty of bars and clubs. I like silky's patio, they have goats. The Peabody is an old hotel and theres ducks that swim in the fountain in the lobby, and they parade up to their penthouse everyday at 5.
Sun studio is in midtown. Check out where Elvis, and Johnny cash first recorded, grab a beer at high cotton down the road and BBQ at the BBQ shop a block or two over.
What are you interested in? We got lots of BBQ, and chicken wings, but there's tons of hole in the wall places for everything in between, just depends what part of town you're gonna be in and around. Same with breweries, we have a lot of good beer here, if that's your thing.
Thanks for all the recs! I managed to hit most of these places. Central BBQ was great. Beale St was fun but opted to not go at night. Tried All Star Wings too. Civil Rights museum was emotional and I could have stayed at Graceland for 4 more hours.
I did make some time to visit the Bass Pro Shop which is a modern man made marvel. Memphis has its charm for sure.
