went to buy tickets to Sleep No More for our NYC trip this summer and see it's ending in March 2024! i naively thought this show would run forever. legit sad i won't get to see it again, but grateful i got the opportunity to see it twice, one of the coolest things i've ever experienced.

thank you so much for this. Unfortunately missed DJ Marcelle but I did go to void and it was amazing!! have never been to a truly underground venue like that aside from a couple shitty house shows so that was super neat. Definitely going back there next time i’m in philly bc that was the highlight of the trip

Heading to Bavaria this spring, never been. Looking for any recs in Munich, Salzburg, and Vienna this April. Things to do, where to stay, restaurants, tips, etc. Thanks!

Was with my wife in Munich for Oktoberfest nearly 10 years ago and we took the train to Salzburg for a couple of nights. They had their own Oktoberfest happening - much smaller, but super cool. Maybe there's a Frühlingsfest in April?
It's such a lovely city with plenty of outdoor activities. If RB Salzburg is in town, you should try and catch a soccer match. If you are a fan of The Sound of Music, there's a bunch of filming locations you'll recognize.
Our favorite hotel is in Salzburg, Hotel Goldener Hirsch. Highly recommend staying there!
Anyone flown with ‘Zipcar’? I’m booking a trip to Japan for April and they appear to have some affordable flights from Tokyo. Flights to Japan have been expensive for months and don’t appear to be changing anytime soon.

Zipair, right? Was also curious about this. They were offering $418 roundtrip flights from LA > Tokyo.

That’s them! They have a $500 one way back from Tokyo to Austin that’s just too good to pass up. Right now (and for the last few months, R/T flights from Japan to Austin have been $1600+. Insane.
My friend said he used them for Iceland to mainland Europe and said they were good though. Not the Spirit standard at least.

So like do you get a seat for that or are you hanging on the wing?

For that price, I think they're worth the gamble. There's a lot of reviews on Reddit saying they're one of the better low cost carriers. My only concern with these types of airlines is my return flight getting cancelled, but it seems like that doesn't happen too often with Zipair.
Just looked up nonstop flights from SFO and they're super cheap as well. Very tempted to book something myself!

Fwiw, I booked a round trip flight from LA to Tokyo back in 2017 and it was less than $500. Perfectly normal international flight too. Flying from the coast is just so much cheaper. I miss those pre pandemic costs.
Going to ask way too early: anyone got any special/unique recommendations for Paris (especially for food)?
Re-upping this again as I'm starting to look into places to stay. I have 72 hours and I feel like I could easily just do a day at the Louvre, the Orsay, and Centre Pompidou, but in addition to restaurants anyone may have tried within the last few years, I am also amenable to places to suggestions of places to look at art of any kind.

btw going to make an unsolicited food recommendation here for Onnadojo/Otokodojo in Shibuya. It has been......a while since I've been, but it's a great a concept: two izakayas across the street from each other, one staffed by all women, the other staffed by all men, with pretty similar courses. They loved having Americans there and if you can convince them it's your birthday you'll get a whole (based on the music anyway) Disneyland-style light show accompanying your meal.

If you're not claustrophobic I would recommend the walkthrough of the Catacombs. Would certainly qualify as unique and doesn't take up too much or the day. Outside of the touristy museums I really liked Montemarte up on the hill by Sacre-Coure. It's a unique vibe.
It's been a while since I've been but I don't remember having a bad meal nor can I remember specifically where I ate which is probably a testimonial to just eating where the day takes you.

I second the Montemarte area. It's beautiful at night.
I have two sons, 11 and 7, and one of their Christmas presents this past year was solo vacations with me and Mom. They each got to pick two destinations. One they want to go on with me, and one they want to go on with her. Then we will also take at least 1, but probably 2 vacations as a family. Below are the destinations. I would appreciate any recommendations, whether food or activity, preferably things that would be fun for kids.

We really enjoyed the Museum of Pop Culture and the Chihuly Garden in Seattle.

Pick the right time of year for DC (late April - early June is my recommendation). It gets impressively hot and muggy. Bonus points for catching the cherry blossoms in the spring. Super underrated vacation spot especially with children. The Smithsonians (including the zoo) are all free and all a blast.

Yep! Going in early April hoping to catch the Cherry Blossoms. Appreciate it!
gonna be in Seoul for a week in June at a work conference. So most of my day will be in the convention center, but want to explore the city. I am going for work, never really looked into visiting so I am very naive to things to do and see.

some of my favorite parts of the vegas subreddit is when people post something like "circus circus is super cheap, is it really that bad?" few comments from a recent post:
"I believe Circus Circus is where they pipe all of the cigarette smoke from the other casinos into."
"Stayed there once. Worst hotel room ever. Then when leaving my SO stepped in human shit right outside the door."
"The only time I went in there, there were 3 people on the casino floor... one of them was laying dead in front of a slot machine."
I’ll be heading to a work conference in Austin, TX at the beginning of June. Probably coming in Tuesday afternoon. Conference is on a Wednesday / Thursday timeline and I’ve been encouraged to extend my stay and take a PTO on that Friday and not leave until Saturday.
Any recommendations? I’ll be staying downtown near the convention center.
Wife and I are thinking of finally taking a honeymoon this summer after getting married in early 2021. The location is centered around ending at a Taylor Swift concert her friend got tickets for in Milan In the middle of July. Not ideal time to travel to Europe, I know, due to the heat and tourists. But we don’t really want to spend more than a day or two in Milan.
So we’ve been trying to find cheaper landing destinations that we can visit beforehand. Our best options so far are Genoa, Geneva, or Nice. We’d like to probably stay a couple days at our flight destination, then go somewhere on Riviera, then to Milan.
Is this stupid? Like is there much to do other than window shop at luxury boutiques and look at yachts docked? Are there other places in that area that are worth our time? Portofino kinda looks boring
We’re going to Philly to see PJ Harvey. We’re going to be there for 3 days. Where should we go. What should we do? Where should we get cheesesteaks?
That's a good time to see the city. There's not a lot else around the Met, taking the subway there is easy from Center City. You can load a transit card, register it and it doubles as a debit card so you don't get stuck with money on it.
So you're going 13-15thish? Friday Night's are pay what you wish at the Art Museum, so you could do something like Eastern State Penitentiary maybe BYOB dinner at Zorba's / Sunset on the River and Climb the Art Museum Steps right into the museum at night.
A lot of people like the Mutter Museum but it's not my thing. Walk around old city see the liberty bell, Independence Hall, Ben Franklin's grave, Washington Square park. You can cross the highway from that area and next to the river is Spruce Street Harbor Park.
My favorite place to get a cheesesteak in center city is Oscars, which is a dive bar. Outside of the city is Chubbies.

I don't remember enough about what we did when we were there to give any recs, but I had a blast in Philly. Loved that place. Would for sure go again
Leaving to Japan in a little over a week. Any recommendations for Osaka? And Tokyo? I haven’t been since before Covid so idk how much has changed. Into weird spots and good food. And running trails!
