I’m still in shock American Airlines canceled my Haiti trip. I mean, we’re only at level 4 and I’m only risking getting abducted or murdered. They apparently don’t know how I roll.

if there's no pickpocket warnings you're in the clear!

Agreed. I feel like I straddle the abduction/murder line whenever I travel. Pickpocketing is something I take way more seriously.
I used the credits for my summer trip, so it worked out. I’ll visit sometime though as I wanna experience it more than just seeing Labadie.

Where in town are you staying? The list is endless, but here are some places I recommend:
- The Castro neighborhood. Have lunch at Anchor Oyster Bar. - You can walk from the Castro to Dolores Park. Ton of food options, but I always enjoy a beer and a sandwich from Rhea's or a Mission burrito from La Taqueria while sitting at the top of the hill. - Golden Gate Park is massive. You can get a taste by visiting near the Haight Street entrance. Check out Hippie Hill for a drum circle. There's amazing pinball (I know Seattle has high standards) at Free Gold Watch and Amoeba for records. - North Beach for great pizza at Tony's and/or Golden Boy. Walk down Columbus towards Chinatown. City Lights and Vesuvio Cafe are on the way if you're into Kerouac. - Presidio Tunnel Tops - fairly new park with gorgeous views of Golden Gate Bridge. Palace of Fine Arts is also nearby.
gonna be in Seoul for a week in June at a work conference. So most of my day will be in the convention center, but want to explore the city. I am going for work, never really looked into visiting so I am very naive to things to do and see.
We’re going to Philly to see PJ Harvey. We’re going to be there for 3 days. Where should we go. What should we do? Where should we get cheesesteaks?
That's a good time to see the city. There's not a lot else around the Met, taking the subway there is easy from Center City. You can load a transit card, register it and it doubles as a debit card so you don't get stuck with money on it.
So you're going 13-15thish? Friday Night's are pay what you wish at the Art Museum, so you could do something like Eastern State Penitentiary maybe BYOB dinner at Zorba's / Sunset on the River and Climb the Art Museum Steps right into the museum at night.
A lot of people like the Mutter Museum but it's not my thing. Walk around old city see the liberty bell, Independence Hall, Ben Franklin's grave, Washington Square park. You can cross the highway from that area and next to the river is Spruce Street Harbor Park.
My favorite place to get a cheesesteak in center city is Oscars, which is a dive bar. Outside of the city is Chubbies.
Going in December for The Blood Brothers. Thankful this response was in the last couple pages. Art Museum, Eastern State and Mutter are definitely on my list.
Fun fact: the worst cheesesteak I've had in my life was in Philadelphia. I went there for a day when I was like 19. The group went to some restaurant which was decently nice. I remember looking out the window at this place across the street that had permanently hazy windows bc the grease inside thinking on how sure I was the cheesesteak there was probably half the price and five times as good.
For touristy stuff, check out Gwangwhamun square. It's a good starting point for a lot of things to check out like Gyeongbokgung Palace, Bukchon Hanok village, Insadong shopping, and walking along the Cheonggyecheon stream.
Look into renting a bicycle and riding along the Han River paths and checking out some of the riverside parks. Lots of people picnic out there in the summertime.
For bar districts the most happening places are Hongdae and Itaewon. Hongdae crowd is younger as it is right in the middle of three universities. Itaewon was more or less the foreigner's district but that started to change when the u.s. military base moved to a city further south.
Idk what dates you are going but I would HIGHLY recommend a night hike with my old hiking group. They do small night hikes every Thursday evening in the city with great vistas of the sprawling city lights, then usually go out for food and drink afterwards. If you download the Meetup app and lookup the Seoul Hiking Nature group they should have some things to sign up for in June with clear directions on when and where to meet.
I'll probably think of other things when I'm not at work but wanted to get started on it so you didn't think I was blowing you off.

Assuming you like red meat, look for a roast pork sandwich instead of a cheesesteak. The roast pork with sharp prov and broccoli rabe done well is better than a cheesesteak done well. A few places in South Philly you could do this - Cosmi's, John's Roast Pork (best in the city, cheesesteaks too), Angelo's in the Italian Market...

Momofuku - not my choice, we ate there one time and weren't impressed, but this is a group dinner and i'm not paying so i'll be there.
L'Atelier de Joel Robuchon - abridged version of Joel Robuchon, fixed menu, sit at the bar and watch them prepare. no b-sides just the hits.
can't do a res for one at Bavettes but might pop in for a bar seat and grab a steak or burger.
dead and co at the sphere saturday and thursday!
Definitely not going to Vegas until next year minimum especially now that I’m going to San Francisco but all joking aside those will be excellent choices.
“Hey shuck are you going to be in Vegas in the next two weeks? We’re having a casual dinner at Joel Robuchon if you want to join us.”
this dinner at Momofuku is like a professional organization thing, probably like 10 of us and i only know one of them. would be awesome if you showed up and we just loudly talked about inforoo the whole meal.

thanks! also just added Din Tae Fung. that's enough dinner reservations, by day five i'll probably be tired of eating.

Didn't know there was a Din Tae Fung in Vegas. My wife misses the LA locations and we'll be there for Dead & Co. on June 13-16.
We plan to hit up our favorites: Lotus of Siam, Tacos El Gordo and The Golden Steer. Any other steakhouses you'd recommend?

Is that the one in Aria? I haven’t really done any of the more upscale Chinese restaurants in Vegas ever so I’m curious what that one’s like. I saw Washing Potato in Fontainebleau and I was curious about that one just based on name alone.

Planning a trip to Scotland. So far it's looking like (need recs for stuff in parentheses):
3 days in Glasgow (food, nightlife, sports) 2 days in Edinburgh (history, night life) 2 days in Pitlochry for the Pitlochry Highland games 3 days in the Highlands (accommodations) I have a hike picked out, the 5 sisters of Kintail. Will do some combo of Isle of Skye, Loch Ness, and the far north. I just need a home base 1 day in Inverness where we fly out of
Keeping tabs on this Vegas convo for October and the first real vacation for just Mrs. GL and I have had in years.
Andrew you gotta go to the Chandelier bar at Cosmo and have the verbena. It gives you a flower that makes your mouth buzz. Someone in my bachelor party group asked me to eat their flower right after I ate mine and I almost immediately vomited. It was great.

Noted. If anything I can get Mrs. GL to do it and immediately get punched in the face. I’ll shoot for that N1 so it’ll be a blast the rest of the trip.

strangely the only steakhouse i've been to in vegas is CUT and we didn't even order steak. it was awesome though, great food great service.
haven't been so i can't vouch for it, but for an off strip steak the frequent recommendation on vegas reddit is Herbs & Rye. people love it.
Thanks, Herbs & Rye looks great. Highly recommend Golden Steer. Believe it's the oldest steakhouse in Vegas and who doesn't love a tableside Caeser Salad?
so many good shows. any of the spiegelworld shows are great for highly offensive and raunchy humor. Absinthe is probably the king of vegas shows, but we also enjoyed Atomic Saloon and Opium (though i think Opium closed or is being revamped).
i unfortunately haven't been to all the Cirque shows, but i can say the Michael Jackson show is amazing (though it's been ten years since we saw it) and Ka was kind of boring. Big Apple is the newest show and we had an absolute blast, but mostly because the MC/standup/magician was absolutely outstanding, and i recently saw on instagram he is leaving the show. i'm sure they'll get somebody great but not sure how they'll top him.

We’re booked up in Fremont this go-round. The festival we’re doing is behind the 4 Queens and just made sense to stay there and Uber around as needed.
The only thing I know for certain is the Punk Rock Musum (and hoping for an awesome guide). Past that and the festival, I’m watching where everyone is eating.
Feels like it matters less in any downtown casino but Circa is 18+ if you want that vibe. El Cortez has super low table minimums if you can get past how immediately grody it is.
