Got NOLA tickets at the arena box office. Didn't trust dealing with Walmart kiosk things. I was like 12th in line. The girl that was first got 10th row center. I got a pair for Longinus and I in section 109, not bad! Club level I guess and will have a good view of visuals. Will prob still try to sneak down to the floor though unless there is some kind of concourse I can rage in that won't muffle the sound.
Looks like it's basically the same setlist as Monster Mash. Really hoping they throw Lateralus back in the mix, but ready for whatever. Glad The Grudge is getting some love.
Monie maybe you can help me out since you were closer, were there ever any curtains covering part of the screens, or was that simply a "curtain graphic" they had displayed? Pretty sure it was a graphic, but can't be 100%.
Either way, show started out with no "screens", just the "curtain". Next song, 3 smaller screens with a still backdrop. Then it was a full 20' screen the entire width of the stage. Then some smaller projection screens were unveiled on the sides of the stage. Then finally two more smaller projections screens were added to the side as well, completely enveloping the space around them.
Definitely keep an eye on the morphing screens if you see them this tour.
Crowd was super into it. All of SA was roaring in approval.
I got a good laugh when I spotted jigawig in the crowd. Primus just hit the stage, and I see jigawig raging down the stairs to Blue Collar Tweakers. You danced all the way to your seat!
Maynard was fairly quiet this evening, nothing much to say. Was surprised he didn't give a shout out to Bowie.
I think I got some good pics on my phone, will need to check them out later today.

her snaps showed the screens so well, holy shit those things covered so much space. i saw zedd (yes not tool at all), but he has screens that competed with those, you really felt like you were wrapped in screens. so jealous of all you fuckers

Yea there was, it dropped after the first song tho. After that it was just the screen.
And yea, this was my first time seeing Tool live and I was blown away. Sooooo good. Even Primus was better than I remembered them being. I have seen them a bunch (maybe 5 or 6 times now?) and this was so much better. They were grittier, I guess that works, than I've seen them. Overall I'm soooo happy I went. My seats were great too. I wasn't expecting to be as close as I was.
Oh! And seeing Danny Carey tear up at the end was so sweet. The cheering and all the smiles were really something special. I couldn't help but notice the completely diverse crowd Tool attracts too. Everything from drunk grandmas to total dude bros to metal heads to hippies. Some grade A people watching.

I can't tell you how long I kept staring, trying to decide if there was an actual curtain. At first, I thought there was, but then later, I thought I could pick out the edge of the LED panels. So makes me feel better I wasn't going crazy!
I was wondering who you were talking about tearing up in your snaps. Danny really does seem like a really cool, down to earth guy. All 3, excluding Maynard, really do seem to be extremely grateful to the crowds. They always do a love fest at the end, thanking the crowds, but this one definitely lasted longer than the others I've been a part of.
That was definitely the loudest crowd I've been in for a while, was good to feel the love for Tool.
Your seats really were great. When I got there and saw where your seat was, I knew you were in for a treat. You definitely nailed it on the Tool crowd too, always diverse, always good for people watching. I think I always spot at least one person who's ingested a tad too much, and are completely blown over by the majesty before them.

glad you finally got to experience tool finally!!!
Great show last nite!!! So glad I waited until two hours before the show to purchase a ticket...was able to be in row 12 of the floor for a great price. I missed all of 3Teeth due to getting a poster, which sucked, but at least I could hear them. After walking around for a while, I stumbled across what I believe was the main merch booth, and snagged a signed (by the band) Primus poster by Justin Hampton...he's the artist that did the really cool Tool/Primus print titled "The Toys Go Spiraling Out". I was planning a getting a beer at this point, but heard Primus take the stage, so I just rushed to my seat dancing the whole way there (just like Rothric said).
Setlist for both bands were almost identical to their Monster Mash sets. Of course Primus had a shorter set time, so a few songs were not played. As for the performances, I was dancing my butt off (in what little space I had) during Primus. Tool's show was phenomenal, but then again, it's Tool. I preferred the vibes at Monster Mash compared to this show...perhaps because it was a festival, perhaps because it was Halloween, perhaps because I had found my friend Lucy, or a combination of the three. Most people around me last nite sat during Primus, which I kind of expected, but hoped not to see. Oh well, can never please everyone.
All in all, it was a great time! Glad I knew what section you were sitting in Rothric, so I could say what's up from a distance. Def recommend going to this show if you have the opportunity!
EDIT...completely forgot until now, but Danny Carey was wearing a Kahwi Leonard jersey (of the San Antonio Spurs). Also, Maynard was wearing some sort of Tron-type costume that I just didn't understand...lol.

Tool THIS WEEKEND! I'm so looking forward to Saturday! If anyone is going to the Nashville show or would like to come to a post Tool brunch, PM me for the invite!
I was surprised to see so many snaps from you, Phyre Fest. At the SA show they were crazy strict about photography. I thought it was a Maynard thing, but i was wondering if it was actually the venue? Or did you just blend in better because you were on the floor? Either way, I enjoyed them.

Totally a Maynard thing. They used to be super strict about it, but with cell phone cameras these days, not much they can do about it.
At my spot for SA, they only cared if you had the flash on. It still astounds me how many people use the flash at shows.

glad i'm not the only one
I legitimately saw some lady take a 3 minute video with the flash on at Phish. People were constantly turning around, shooting death glares, yet she was oblivious.
I think flash photography at shows, and slow drivers in the passing lane might be my two of my biggest pet peeves.

I'm gutted I wasn't able to make it to this show. I was at work when tickets went on sale. Still tried to buy some on my phone but the app crashed everytime I tried to purchase. I'm starting to think this is one of those bands I'm just never going to see live.

When video of you shows up on YouTube of you putting someone in a rear naked choke on stage midshow, it's understandable that you are shy of pictures. Haha

One of my favorite Tool videos. If anyone hasn't seen it, definitely watch it. Skip to around 2:15, happens soon after.

Yea I was pretty embedded with people on the floor, but they were definitely going around telling people to put their phones away. I was always quick with the snaps.
Really glad to see the Nashville show went off without a hitch, was worried for you all!
I can't wait for Fore34 to experience the majesty.
Oh man. Phi's pic makes quite pissed about ticketmaster fucking me on the floor ticket I originally had but they screwed me on. But, I've been to a show at this venue before and even the seats that are "far away" are quite close and in the center section so I should have a great view. I'm a bit nervous, for obvious reasons, but I can not wait for the show because everything I've heard about the Nashville show is my friends drooling over how amazing TOOL was... Only four more days!

Sometimes things work out in those seats. I saw NIN in Knoxville, and I got floor seats especially because of the seats opposite of the stage being kind of far back. Shortly after the show started, both my friend and I realized that we had fucked up as those seats would have been great in order to take in the whole of what was going on with the visuals for the show.

Yeah, that's what I'm hoping for with the tix I got. The one show it went to at this venue before was Pretty Lights a few years ago and I think I was seated in generally the same area as where my tickets are for Tool and I remember thinking it a good vantage point to take in all the stage production. Thinking/praying it works out the same way for Tool. Also, being a little ways away from the stage should help make sure I don't freak out like last time I listened to Tool while not sober
