I enjoy a lot of these bands but for fucks sake, you gotta mix up the lineup a bit. Avetts and shakes are really weak headliners. There's some good stuff on here, just nothing really pops out at you. Nothing unique. Nothing to get excited about. Just the same old bullshit you expect to see on lineups for fests this size. With additions and a good schedule I could see myself getting a day pass for Ryan Adams, but I can also see myself skipping this one all together for the 2nd straight year.
Totally agree. It's very boring and by-the-numbers, but I dig a lot of these bands. Throw in a few solid additions in january or february and I'll be more than happy taking a weekend off down the road for a festival I really have come to enjoy a lot.
Unless Bunbury really nails their lineup this year and I can just stay home and not pay for a hotel.
Yes, I would much rather Bunbury come out with a killer lineup so I can just stay home for a fest. I'll be interested to see who gets added.

Bully is the best band on here.
Solid undercard, headliners do nothing for me. I guess I wouldn't mind seeing DCFC. I've seen Adams and Avetts and Shakes numerous times. They're all good, just not my thing.
This entire lineup for me is basically "well, I wouldn't mind seeing them", but there isn't anyone I'm super excited about save Ryan Adams, Washed Out, Danny Brown and Bully. I feel like this is not gonna bode well for WayHome (both AC) which sucks. I wouldn't mind Alabama Shakes being billed fourth but I cannot see them as a headliner.
2015 | Fleetwood Mac, Father John Misty, Bleachers, Wussy, Walk the Moon (x2), The Black Keys, Kacey Musgraves, Old Crow Medicine Show, The Avett Brothers, Shakey Graves, twenty one pilots (unfortunately), The Front Bottoms, Snoop Dogg, The Rolling Stones, Future Islands, alt-J, Courtney Barnett, The Gaslight Anthem, Com Truise, Girl Talk, Run the Jewels, Modest Mouse, Kendrick Lamar, Danny Brown, Broods, Brandon Flowers, Sam Smith, Goo Goo Dolls

If I'm reading the lineup correctly there were only a handful of crossover acts last year (5-6) but 2 of them were headliners (Sam Smith and Modest Mouse)... so yeah, not looking good. That said, Wayhome scored Neil; if they go from him to Avett Bros as a number one... it's depressing just to think about.

If they add Tame Impala it might be worth it. There's no way they'll add Mumford with the Avett's and Ryan Adams. They all play basically the same music.
It's cool that they got Danny Brown and Bully and Sylvan Esso. Just wish there was more substance beyond those.

I, too, feel like there will be another addition at the first position on the poster. Mumford is a good guess. I also wonder if they wait until after the Grammies and then add Kendrick as that first name, or later in the poster, Chris Stapleton, Tame Impala, Courtney Barnett, Caribou, Disclosure, Jamie XX, Miguel, D'Angelo or J Cole.
I feel like Florence is really the perfect fit for this fest, but it doesn't look like that's happening.
Any of these would help out with the massive normcore. I mean, I've seen 25 of the 37 bands on the lineup at other festivals. But I count 62 artists on the bill for last year so this is just more than half of the names. Could end up pretty good, actually.

This is the thing about Forecastle. I live in Louisville it takes me 7 minutes to get there and home so it's perfect for me to go to and there is always at least enough for me to like that I am going to get a ticket and go. Just being there with the bourbon lodge, listening to music for a weekend to kind of get away from things makes it worth it to me. With all that being said I think there is just a complete lack of imagination when they put together these lineups....
Almost half the current lineup has been w/in an hour of Louisville in the past year but they continue to miss out on bands that don't/haven't toured the area anytime recently that seem like a perfect fit for the fest:
The National Tame Impala Ellie Goulding Father John Misty (he did play here this year but seems like a logical fit any other year) The Decemberists (same as FJM above) Alt-J Florence + The Machine CHVRCHES Disclosure A$AP Rocky Kendrick Lamar Childish Gambino Odesza Kacey Musgraves Mac Demarco
I could go on obviously and name anyone whose never played here but these acts all have played or will played ACE fests and aren't frequent visitors to the Louisville area, yet Moon Taxi plays every year, we get a break from Shovels & Rope finally, The shakes have been here 3 of the past 4 years, and so on. Do they just book bands when they come to town or what is the process behind all this? Sorry just somewhat frustrating to see them whiff year after year and what could be a great fest.
If I lived in Louisville though, I'd be there every year. It's such a great festival. There's just no way I'm traveling more than a couple hundred miles and spending a bunch of money on a lineup like this.

I think Bunbury is going to nail the lineup this year. I really was digging it last year. I just think they need to lay off the entire day of folky-stuff. By all means have some but saturday was kinda a downer for me.

I heard Wayhome is charging for camping this year too. However, they lineup there seemed more diverse with Nectar/Odesza/Sam Smith/Modest Mouse/Brandon Flowers/Run the Jewels/Manchester Orchestra/Thousand Foot Krutch etc. Forecastle just seems like a festival that focuses on music that I don't really enjoy that much, which makes me sad being 6 hours out in MI. Bottom line: I think Wayhome will be fine but pod camping in year two will prevent them from growing much this year.

Last year was certainly a few giant steps in the right direction, lineup-wise, for Bunbury. I think a lot of that is due to PromoWest Live taking over the booking, and that they don't directly compete with Forecastle on the same weekend anymore.

I'm not a huge fan of folk music but I actually enjoyed Saturday. It was nice to have a downtempo day in between the craziness that were my Friday and Sunday. Old Crow Medicine Show were fricking awesome, too. Did not expect to like them as much as I did.

I think its less that these bands are terrible and more that they are all pretty standard festival bands, imo. When a lineup like this doesn't have anything really unique it just kills it for me. Honestly, if they replaced Avetts and shakes with two "good" headliners I would like this lineup a whole lot more.
It's a solid undercard, IMO. Yeah, it's bands that have played plenty of festivals in the past and will play plenty in the future...but that has never bothered me as much as it has for others. If they announce a solid headliner in the next wave of announcements, I would consider going.

Considering the numbers somebody else posted that last year had 62 names and this is only 37...I'm fine with what is there.
I'm not a huge fan of numbers 2-8 to be honest. But I am curious to see Ryan Adams, Death Cab and Ben Harper live. They've slipped past me a couple times.
I've see Big Gigantic, Sylvan Esso and Danny Brown but they're by far the most exciting names on the list for me.
Really excited to finally check out Dr. Dog, All Them Witches, Femi Kuti, Washed Out and Bully.
I live 10 minutes away, so I'm almost certainly going. There's no WSP or Sam Smith which is a plus. But I really hope that the second half of the line-up has a few exciting names. It'd be a shame if they couldn't snag Animal Collective considering they had to cancel in 2013.
If this lineup was close to me, I'd be SO IN. Forecastle is a great atmosphere, and for the price, this can't be beat. Especially when you factor in that more names are eventually getting slotted into that top ten.
I understand the "lineup is so bland and unadventurous" argument but I think people need to get their expectations in check. We have entered the era of bland and unadventurous festival lineups, especially ones dropped this early. It's not just Forecastle -- the oversaturation effect is too real. Over an entire festival season there will be mayyyyyyyyyybe three lineups that truly drop some unexpected bombs of joy. The rest will just appeal to their target demographic. Which, as mentioned previously, Forecastle certainly does.
Personally speaking, I'm looking forward to another trip to Louisville for Forecastle. I can understand people being underwhelmed by the initial lineup drop, but for me, it's a sold start - and for full disclosure, I've been a big fan of The Avett Brothers since they released Emotionalism. I figure the price of a ticket is worth it for me based on seeing these acts (And I still need to research some unfamiliar names): - The Avett Brothers - Ryan Adams - Ben Harper - Alabama Shakes - Death Cab - Gary Clark Jr. - Dr. Dog - Sylvan Esso - Grouplove - Moon Taxi - Phosphorescent - Shakey Graves - White Denim - Bully - Speedy Ortiz - All Them Witches Yes, I've seen every one of the acts listed above, save for Speedy Ortiz, White Denim and Bully, but it's getting harder and harder for fests to attract out-of-left-field bookings, particularity for someone like me who spends all his disposable income on going to shows and fests. I also wouldn't be surprised if they announce some more top-tier acts. There's no way, based on the last few Forecastles, the three headliners are going to be the top three acts currently listed. The Avetts will stay there, but I could see Alabama Shakes and Ryan Adams dropping to pre-headliner status.

I think Avett Brothers and Alabama Shakes are headliners for this fest. Ryan Adams falls pretty well in line with Modest Mouse and Replacements as a solid #4. It wouldn't surprise me if he dropped a spot, but if they want to make him a headliner I could see it either way. He did close a stage opposite Deadmau5 at Governors Ball
