You caught me. No point in lying anymore. I make up all the "scoops" I get. I have no connections at all. I am right more often than anyone else around here because of sheer luck.
In discussing plans for trying to make this happen, of course Garageland has to mention his extreme excitement for two of the only acts on the lineup I've never ever heard of before. Feels about right.
P.S. Makes me sad I can't even tag GL because of deleted account.
Considering you've found the need to respond to my threads as if you are threatened by me I offer you some peace my confused counterpart. May you find peace in your restless soul.
WayHome is the main festival I am anxiously waiting to see the lineup for.... They said back in December it would be out after the new year; I hope that means sooner rather than later.
I kinda forgot about WayHome. It's about 3 hours farther from me than Firefly and about 4.5 hours farther than Osheaga, which isn't totally unreasonable but it would take that much better of a lineup from them to get me to drive 10 hours.
Wayhome and Firefly are my two main festivals, and if you prefer the Wayhome lineup then go there. It's soooo reminisent of what Firefly was like in the earlier years.
I had an amazing time, it's so accessible. Not crowded at all, super nice canadians, really simple easy stage layout. I showed up at the end of each pre-headliner set and I was 5 rows back from the stage for Arcade Fire, LCD and Killers.
Only problem is food options were terrible and they have an exclusive agreement with Moulsen for beer and Moulsen....bad.

i knew who you meant even when there was a gap where his name would be. just made sense.
(Another fest Bon Iver is playing but not headlining)

Or his agent changed his mind because the headlining offers werent nearly what they anticipated.
I gotta imagine his team was expecting the new album to sell a lot better than it has.
I was kind of hoping the new space mean the stages wouldn't be opposing. Still stuck listening to every single band that plays. at least i'll be able to lay on the grass in the back somewhere.
Or you could go to the new third stage, or check out Natalie Portman's movie thing.
You are right! I didn't even notice the third stage in this photo earlier. Either way - I'm digging the line-up and with friends who live super close I'll totally be making the trek up from nyc.

So.....hotels? Airbnb? Best options for staying? I know someone posted earlier about the doubletree (I think) only a mile away. Any recommendations?
The Doubletree in Cambridge is your best bet for convenience/proximity to the festival. There's also a Courtyard Hotel in Cambridge that's close to that same area. But there are several places to stay in both the Waterfront and Copley Square areas of the city. Waterfront hotels in particular are more expensive but have amazing views. There's a handful of more affordable hotels in the Copley/downtown area.
Cambridge is probably the best bet. You can easily take a red line train to Harvard and then catch the 86 or 66 bus which will go right to the festival. To be honest though most locations near sorrow drive (which is right along the river) will give you fairly good access

In LaunchPad's defense, he has a long-standing history with Coachella (through Bon Iver and other projects) and Boston Calling is being curated by his good friend (one of the Dressners).
If he was gonna sub at two fests, it would probably be these. Am I missing others? Think he'll still headline Pitchfork, he's headlining Prima, and will probably do a couple others.
Shaky Knees has to be scratching their heads a bit that they have the XX #1 overall and they're subbing here.

I think it was said somewhere that SK doesn't put their headliners by importance but by which day they are playing.

The one where all the track names were basically scrambled numbers and emojis? Yeah I bet they were really counting on album sales

Oh I agree. I'm sure Bon Iver will be one of Lolla's 8 headliners. He's probably headlining Sasquatch too.

Not sure what the song names have to do with the album's success. Bon Iver had established a pretty large and dedicated fan base with his first two album. What probably hurt sales was the drastic departure from the style of his earlier stuff. Scared some people off.
But seriously Radiohead can release an album where every song title is just a symbol and that would still sell 150k first week.

I typed this out, then got distracted and forgot to actually post it...After a quick google, the doubletree is definitely the best hotel option @ $200/night, but there are even closer Airbnbs for around $90. If you want to go cheaper than that, the best option is to look for Airbnbs farther out on the redline, which appear to go as low as $40.

After some quick tour searching:
The xx - Saturday Sigur Ros - Fri or Sat RTJ - Fri or Sun most likely (playing Summer Camp same weekend) Hiss Golden Messenger - Sunday Frightened Rabbit - Sunday
The xx - Saturday Sigur Ros - Fri or Sat RTJ - Fri or Sun most likely (playing Summer Camp same weekend) Hiss Golden Messenger - Sunday Frightened Rabbit - Sunday
The XX subbing the main with Sigur Ros closing a side would be perfect.
Not sure about their light show nowadays, but Sigur Ros at sunset would get me there.

If they're using the light show from the fall tour they should be in the dark. I'd guess they're changing it up a bit because that was for "smaller" venues. Late sunset into night would be perfect, I should be able to see Tool and Chance at GovBall so I'm fine missing part of any of the headlining sets.
The Charles River Inn is two miles away (so decent walk or cheap uber) and $102 a night on both booking.com and hotels.com
It's also no prepayment and free cancellation, fyi
FYI-This place is mad sketchy used to live by there. I think at one point it was a borderline homeless shelter. There's a reason it's so cheap. I wouldn't stay there honestly.
If Boston has enough of one thing it's definitely hotel options .. even in outlying areas like Newton, you should be able to find pretty cheap and it's not that far of a drive to the venue. Park Plaza in Copley also always has Groupon deals and it's still very close to the venue and close to a ton of great restaurants/attractions.
I'm assembling a spotify playlist of the lineup now...
First find that excites me: Buffalo Tom. "When they released their first album in 1989, the Boston-based trio Buffalo Tom were written off as Dinosaur Jr. junior....Over time, Buffalo Tom stripped away their grungier influences and developed into a straight-ahead rock group of the early '90s capable of throttling rockers and beautiful ballads."
I still haven't even listened to a song of theirs, but I love that some festival acts you don't know have 20 million spotify plays on their top single...and some are from Boston and formed in 1989.
I listened to Buffalo Tom's newest album twice today and liked it. I didn't get Dinosaur Jr. at all. Just switched to 1989 self-titled album. Yup. Dino-esque and not a fan.
Welcome back Bonz, but I do not find it strange that your presence being requested in the Orgy thread and then you showing up, like it was the quacking Bonzai Bat Signal.

Even though I've liked previous lineups and I'm not really feeling 2 out of 3 of the headers, I'm super proud of what BC has become. I've been to every edition except the first and its crazy seeing it actually (in my opinion) beat out second-tier fests like Gov Ball and Shaky Knees. Really excited to see the new festival ground too.
