If you hadn't noticed, the Eaux Claires line-up dropped today and, as the other MSG/Crash Line festival, it's always instructive as to whom they're building relationships with...and who might show up next year in Boston.
Of course, the act I was most hoping to see in the Boston Calling lineup (except for a couple of long-shot reunions) is playing Eaux Claires...in a number of guises.
This is as Wilcocentric a lineup as you'd expect at Solid Sound: Wilco, Tweedy, The Autumn Defense, S. Carey & Glenn Kotche, Cup, and Quindar (all contain at least one current member of Wilco).
Plus, PAUL MOTHERQUACKING SIMON (and John Prine, for good measure.) It looks like they're not afraid to book acts that appeal to the 45+ crowd at this festival.
Also, Chance The Rapper and Danny Brown, Feist and Francis and the Lights, and a whole lot of acts I've never heard of.
So, my takeaway from this lineup is that as long as they're doing late Spring gigs next year, Wilco sounds like a lock for Boston Calling 2018. I just hope that they don't make the immediate Boston area wait nearly two a half years from their early 2016 shows before coming back to town.
In summation:
Paul Simon - Chance The Rapper - Wilco > Mumford & Sons - Chance The Rapper - Tool
And I think Weezer is pretty much a lock for Friday. XX and 1975 are confirmed for Saturday so that would make Saturday too stacked, and then you'd think Cage sub headlines for Tool on Sunday since that's what's happening at Gov Ball

Are Weezer a lock for Friday? I haven't been paying too much attention to their tour, but according to their website they have the entire weekend open.

I think it's more likely than not, based on what I said a couple of posts up

Weezer subheadlining Chance seems both weirdly plausible and completely unlikely

It's not always done by style. The Replacements subbed for Nas and The Roots in 2015. To be fair, that's the only example.
I think it'd make more stylistic sense to switch Bon Iver and Weezer, but again, having their three big rock names on the same day probably isn't the best move, especially because Tool will bring all their fans regardless of who else is playing that day
I'd be really shocked if they have Francis and The Lights, one of Chance's biggest collaborators on the last LP (and played w/ him at the grammy's), on any other day besides Chance's day. It wouldn't make any sense. (that, and at least for Gov Ball they play the same day and both are playing the same festivals)
and personally switch the stages the XX and 1975 are playing on that Saturday and i'd be set lol but I know that's not me and I'm wrong for liking them haha

Good call on that, I should have had that already. Switched them w/ Whitney on Sunday

Dm'd Boston Calling on Twitter to see if they had any plans on a replacement. They responded by saying: "We're really sorry to hear the news, but stay tuned for more news from us coming soon!"

Shaky Knees is asking fans who they'd want as a replacement. Would love BC to do the same, although I'm sure they'll pick someone decent. Against Me would fit nicely.

I messaged back suggesting Franz Ferdinand and/or Feist, I know they might be too big for the spot, but who knows, both aren't doing anything. They messaged back saying "Love the suggestions! Thanks!" Guess we'll see.

I just tweeted them suggesting Guided By Voices, Seratones, Margo Price, Pinegrove, Ted Leo, and The Lemon Twigs as potential replacements.
With the exception of The Lemon Twigs, who hang on the same side of the musical street as Whitney, any of these acts would bring something to the lineup which isn't already there.
Noticed this a week or so ago. Think "full lineup" means there's going to be additions??
I'd assume it's the film lineup and maybe an extra side stage or something. The schedule's just too packed as is for them to add more to the three stages.
Super meh, for me. Another band in the emo/metal/math rock space. This was a chance to put something in the lineup which wasn't there already, and they blew it.
