I basically recommend not ordering food or beer after 5 pm, the lines were that atrocious.
I seen on my phone that rain was coming during Sigur Ros, and that it was a quick hitter. Once it started coming down more than a light shower, I ventured over to the Mikkeller tent and waited 15 minutes for it to pass.
It's gonna be a muddy mess in front of Green and Red all weekend. There's no way it's gonna dry out before the end of the weekend.

Bon Iver was awesome for what I saw (namely 8 circle). I left after that song for Sigur Ros though. It sucks to hear that he played a bunch of older stuff. Damn that conflcit

Deerhoof, Sylvan Esso, Sigur Ros, and Chance were all excellent. It was waaaay too packed though. Big crowds don't usually bother me, but it wasn't even sold out and it was such a pain to get anywhere or buy any food after 5.

Bon Iver was absolutely incredible. The rain starting to come down during Holocene was perfection and the rain continuing with the sing along to Skinny Love was unreal. Don't expect anything topping that this weekend. Going from that to Sigur Rós and then Chance made for an absolutely wonderful night of music. The only negatives for me was leaving the red stage after Bon Iver was over was absolutely terrible and the mud basically destroyed my shoes. But overall it was a great festival day.
I am seeing some of the issues on Twitter and I have to say I'm awfully confused about most of them.
The only problem I saw the entire day - mud aside, which no one can do anything about - was that the food lines were prohibitively long. We had no issues getting into the venue, I had no issues with bathroom lines, I had no issues getting drinks of any variety.
Blue stage area was great. Green was great but I think it and red are a little too close together, now that they're both so big.
I don't understand why the food lines were so bad. At previous ones there were way fewer options and the lines were never that crazy
Probably because, at City Hall Plaza, a lot of people opted to head out the gates, with literally a hundred options within a 10 minute walk (if you count the individual vendors in the Fanueil Hall food court).
Given the lines at the new site, it would take around the same amount of time to walk back to Harvard Square, grab a quick bite to eat, and then go back to the festival grounds as it does to wait in line onsite. Of course, you can still catch an act while waiting in line onsite.
You can probably get a lot more value for your dollars offsite, too.

First day thoughts, overall I think they're doing a great job, I personally had no issues getting food, and where I ended up getting food had huge portions for a reasonably price. Blue stage area is dope, spent a lot of time there yesterday. I only saw Lucy Dacus on the green stage, but was very impressed by the sound. Red stage is WAY too close to the green stage getting out of there after Sylvan Esso was pretty awful if you were on the green stage side (honestly might cut back on a lot of red stage acts). I left after Sigur last night so not sure how bad it will be when everyone leaves at once, but I had no issues getting out, and getting in wasn't bad at all (though I never found the no bag express lane they were advertising).

Only concern I have today is the mud situation. A lot of back and forth traffic between Red and Green. Luckily I always bring throw away shoes to festivals, but I'd prefer not to be slipping and sliding if possible. Today's a pretty flexible day. Nobody I'm dying to see except the the XX. Will try to catch Kevin Morby, Danny Brown, Oh Wonder, but will probably move around a lot. With a friend who came in for his first festival experience. Got to make sure he sees a little bit of everything.
Also yesterday too 5: 1) Bon Iver (godlike) 2) Sylvan Esso 3) Francis and the Lights 4) Chance (only caught half but loved what I saw) 5) Whitney
I'm not really sure about all the complaints of waiting as a first time attendee. Maybe it's just because people are comparing it to precious years fests, but I thought it was fine. My only complaint is the spacing between red and green. Man that sucks. Trying to figure out The xx tonight and how I should play that. Overall though a great time.
My gf accidentally tightened her bracelet very very tightly. Trick to loosen? We tried with a straw but couldn't get it to work. Send help
I saw a similar inquiry made to Boston Calling on Twitter, I believe.
If you're having wristband issues, they can replace your wristband once you're there. I don't recall whether it's will call or elsewhere, but ask when you get there.
Tool played Eulogy for the first time last night since 2001, but they played it in the place of Vicarious. So that's the coinflip in the setlist, it seems
