So I'm going to this fest for the first time this year (coming from Florida). What's a decent/average price to stay in the city? All the hotels I've seen are a few hundred per night, so I don't know if that's really the only or best choice. Any help is appreciated.
I agree with esteban on this one. Hotels are going to be expensive this late in the game. An air B&B is probably the best way to go.

When I checked airbnbs recently (because the one I booked a few months back got cancelled) they were almost all booked up or cost-prohibitive. By all means check, as more might have opened up.
Hotels in the city are mostly cost prohibitive at this point IMO. The next best alternative if you can't find a decent priced hotel or airbnb in the city is to check out Metairie or Kenner, which is out near the airport. Bummer to not be in the city but if you have a car it's not a bad drive to City Park. We're at the Crowne Plaza Kenner, I've stayed there before for a flight and it's nice.
Bottom line is for any major weekend in New Orleans (Halloween, Mardi Gras, Jazzfest) you pretty much have to book a hotel months in advance to get a semi decent deal, and even then expect to pay $200ish/night.

I just cancelled a room at Motel 6 on Old Gentilly Rd ab an hour ago, check it out on Priceline.
Anyone else think that it is odd that they haven't cancelled/replaced Charles Bradley yet?
They said the other day that on their facebook he did not cancel Voodoo. I noted at the time that I figured it was only a matter of time before he did cancel. But apparently he did a show or song or two on 10/16 on CBC's Radio 2 (George Stroumbouloupoulos) even though his tour was cancelled.
I still think they will replace him, but it's Puscifer's time-slot anyway. So there's not much else I'm going to be wanting to do at that hour. Puscifer vs. Trump rules if you didn't watch their new video yet.

I will be a Puscifer. I just thought it was odd. I didn't realize they said he didn't cancel Voodoo.
I'll be at Puscifer too, but if Voodoo isn't bluffing, and Charles has plans to do one last show in New Orleans before a (hopeful) hiatus, that will be very difficult decision to miss. First caught his encore at 2013 Beale in Memphis, and he went out to give everyone in the crowd hugs, including my brother, then saw him again at Hangout 2015. He just seems to have so much fun up there, it's a bummer he's being forced to not take a stage because f. u. c. k. cancer

Yeah, like I said yesterday or Tuesday, I'd probably walk over there for 10 minutes out of respect. But my main focus during that slot is Puscifer.
I'm going to try to split some of that set with Excision after most of Cage. But if it's a massively packed day, I'll probably just go to Tool.
They intrigue me but not enough I think to not get a good spot for Tool
Here's the thing. With the new Festival Map, Tool will be playing on the stage that is in between Ghost and Rebelution. I'm looking at going to the front left as far up as I can get for Tool (that's the side of the stage with Rebelution playing). Ghost is at the stage to the right as you're facing where the new main stage is. So it's not going to be that difficult to just go around the back to get over there UNLESS Cage is a zoo and everyone just stays where they are for that hour break from 8:30 to 9:30 (between the Cage and Tool sets).
What may be a little more difficult this year is getting to the Le Plur Stage since you essentially have to go around it to get to where you can see it since it doesn't face inward. I'm sure it's going to be easy enough to cut through the park, but it's out there on an island on the west side of the festival grounds.
Ghost is the Insane Clown Posse of metal, you don't want to miss out.
Is this a good thing or a bad thing?
I don't see them that way at all, but it's probably both. The idea that there's another metal band on the lineup is a good thing. The fact that it's slower, doom-based one isn't so much great for me since I prefer Thrash and Speed Metal to sludgy-er stuff.

Haha. But I never said definitely, I said probably (a good thing). I haven't seen them except in interviews and some performances up on YouTube. I know my boy's theatrical daughter who is 15 and all her friends love them. Maybe it's metal for a new generation, I don't know. But I need as many f'n guitars in my life as I can get.
Ghost isn't really heavy or doom metal and I don't understand why they get labeled that way. It's more like some kind of pop metal to me like the inverse of glam metal with "satanic" undertones. And they are getting young cheesedicks interested in metal. People are bringing young kids to their shows and exposing them to it to break their metal cherries lightly. Let's make metal great again. Inspire the next generation to refuse to suck on that EDM thumb.
Anyway, calling them the ICP of metal was just a joke that one of our friends made at the last show they played in nola. We also joked about them coming out with a christian album. But calling them the ICP of metal just makes those unfamiliar think "oh, you mean they fucking suck." No, it means that they are using a gimmick and a formula that works so great that it is drawing a huge new type of fanbase outside of the existing metal community that are basically forming clubs/cults in different cities and these people are really obsessing over the band. There is a community online and many of them paint their faces and refer to themselves as Ghouls.

So they're just like metal version of candy plur kids? Sounds extremely lame
You probably wouldn't notice anything about their fanbase if I hadn't have pointed it out. And at Voodoo, it'd be impossible to notice. Their super fans aren't even a fraction as annoying or lame as candy plur kids. I was just explaining the ICP joke.
