Tool ain't cancelling. They aren't candyasses like hair guy from the Weaknd.
Also, yes, Tool's setlist is EXACTLY the same as the winter tour, except they are opening with Third Eye. Def my fav Tool song and I've never heard it live, very stoked for that.
So what music at the Plur stage should I check out, or is at least worth checking out?
Was gonna check out Porter Robinson Fri. Def checking out Chairlift. Bob Moses and Snails on Sunday. Anything else I should be aware of?
It's a fucking wasteland this year in my opinion. Oldest kid said new What So Not album is good, and he was cool at Buku this year. I'll be catching the first half of that Friday before going to see All Them Witches at Toyota Tent.
This is literally the only shit I even have over there (and do note that there is an occasional "EDM" act at another stage like Bob Moses):
Friday: 15 Minutes of Lunice, Half of What So Not, Half of Porter Live (Worlds), some of Carnage until he annoys me enough to leave
Saturday: Maybe 10 minute of Excision if I feel like walking over there before I see either Ghost or Rebelution
Sunday: Some of Lookas, Maybe a few minutes of Snails if I opt to skip the second half of Band of Horses, 15-20 minutes of Gramatik
That's literally it. There is some okay shit there that's washed out on conflicts. Here's what I know about the acts starting after the opening shit: ------------------------------- Friday
Lunice - He's a Canadian DJ who is one half of TNGHT with Hudson Mohawke. He's decent, and no one I know has ever seen him before.
Lost Kings - Sort of House Duo out of Los Angeles who remixes a ton of shit
Slander - Trap DJ duo formerly frat kids from L.A./Orange County. I saw them at Buku a couple of years ago. Pretty generic.
What So Not - DJ out of Australia who mixes up Dub and some of the harder stuff along with typical DJ shit. I've seen him before, and he was decent. I think Skrillex signed him to OWSLA
Porter Robinson - Voodoo said this would be a Live Performance (likely Worlds). I saw this at Buku 2015, and it was pretty cool. The music is really slowed down from what he did at Hangout 2013 (which I personally liked WAY better). If he's doing Worlds, the visual show was pretty great. Think not quite Roger Dean, but still cool. The thing about this set is gets better through to the end. But because I'd rather see Kevin Gates or Reignwolf, I'm only going to catch the beginning.
Carnage - Everybody hates on him. I'm going to see for myself and take the Skrililex at Bonnaroo 2012 approach: I'll listen until he annoys me the fuck out of there. He'll bring some okay trap, but the pop shit is just too annoying, and he's known to fuck up constantly and is sort of the butt of a lot of jokes.
Saturday:
Cakes Da Killa - I think this is a cross-dressing gender bender rapper from New York or New Jersey. I've seen a couple of videos and laughed at some of the shit. I think the face Phi has in his avatar comes from a Cakes video.
Black Tiger Sex Machine - Saw 5 minutes at Hangout Preparty 2015. That's all I needed. Gimmicky light up masks for their signature and house/house/house/hype/house
Snakehips: Only watched a couple of videos when the lineup dropped. I didn't much care for it. They are two brittish guys doing R&B & House.
DJ Mustard - I actually kind of wanted to see Mustard, but I'mj not missing Claypool Lennon. I might walk over to catch the last 10-15 minutes. Molly76 said he saw Mustard at ACL, and if the first half of the show was as good as the second half (which was trap/hard trap), the show would have been good. I guess he piles all the pop-pap into the first half or whatever.
Allison Wonderland - Fairly decent chick DJ out of Austrailia.
Excision - Canadian DJ/Producer who is probably the hardest DJ on the lineup (trap, dub, mindbending, etc.). Unfortunately, he conflicts with shit I'd rather see. I saw him before, and it was a good show. Light/visual show helps carry it through. This is more the wirey shit you'd hear Key & Peele play before jumping out of the window.
Die Antwoord - You already know them, and you won't be there.
Sunday:
Lookas - He's a hard trap DJ out of Miami and probably the only one who could challenge Excision on the Mohs Scale. I haven't seen him before and may partially split that set with Bob Moses since i've seen them twice and haven't seen him yet.
Party Favor - Typical harder white guy DJ who does a lot of remixes. You've heard all this before. He doens't suck, but it's nothing new.
Snails - You know (Colorado DJ who is kind of clunky)
Gramatik - You know (should bring a few live performers out with him)
The Chainsmokers - Everything that is wrong with EDM ---> well most everything...
Can someone give me the low down on the Toyota Music Den? The sets are only 20 minutes, so is this all acoustic stuff? Does it get crazy crowded for the better acts?

Usually all or mostly acoustic (Peelander-Z did have electric setup for the guitar), I have never seen it stupid packed but they have never had anyone super huge on that stage either.

Wasn't Maxim there in 2013? I def didn't go either way bc of conflicts.
My biggest Voodoo regret over the past 10 years prob is dicking around too long/not checking schedule and missing all but the last 10 seconds of Maxim's Plur set. Walked up and caught the end of Out of Space.
Luckily I saw The Prodigy at Riot last year, which was a lifetime concert highlight.

You just said it all. You didn't make it to the Toyota tent due to conflicts, along with over 70% of Voodoo fest goers. I have gone to a ton of those sets and I have never seen more than maybe 40-50 people in there, and that is a high estimate. Also, most people don't stay for the whole thing, it is a: "Oh there is music at this tent, while I am walking to wherever. Let me see what's up. Ok, continuing to where I was going."
Kisha Bashi should tell Houston to GTFO and fill Sir Charles' spot.
C3 is booking and they said they were getting away from NOLA acts that previously would fill all the schedule gaps (Rebirth, Shorty, Freedia, Soul Rebels, etc.) because we can see them all at any time. I don't necessarily agree with that strategy, but I'm not a millionaire booker either. But I'd think they could fill that slot pretty easily with some local talent. Lineup is devoid of Bounce Rap. They could do a multiple rappper party or bring in one of the other local acts i mentioned.
I don't know, and I haven't checked or updated the app to see if anything changed.
Yall think there will be an Uber surge price for this weekend? I'm staying out on I-10 and wondering whether I should do NORTA or pay the Uber fees
There will be right at the end for a bit. It depends on where you're staying as far RTA. Ride would be safe to wherever, but if you are staying in the East, you'd have to walk from Chef or Morrison if the busses even run that late, and there is a lot of crime out that way. You'll have no problem daytime, but I'd cab or Uber home. If you're in Metairie, busses don't run late. We have Lyft now as well.
One alternative is to walk up N Carrollton to Parkview Tavern (3 blocks) or Wit's Inn (8 blocks). Both stay open til 3 so you can drink and monitor pricing til it drops to a sufficient level.

Getting excited guys... we're flying out at 8 AM on Thursday from Baltimore, layover in ATL and then should be in NOLA by 1:30 PM. Really stoked to visit your city, never been! Spending a full week so I'm super pumped for Voodoo, but hanging around for 4 days after the fest to check it out. I have no real point other than I'm fucking ready to goooooooooooooo

You're here for a week? We should meet up for voodoo and afterwards. Also, I work for where magazine I can get you passes to the zoo/aquarium/insectarium and some off the beaten track things to do.

I've seen them play Third Eye.
I heard that Maynard doesn't really perform the scream for The Grudge anymore. Maybe he'll do it at Voodoo since it's the last show, but with Puscifer playing the next day I highly doubt it. What a candyass.
Longinus and I will be at the Joy Fri and Sat nights. The Monsters of Funk show on Saturday is gonna be awesome. I dig the Joy for funk shows, last NYE there for Foundations of Funk was a great time w/ plenty of dancing room.
Seems like there will be extra room there since Tips is sold out for Galactic.

Here's a few recommendations. If you're not too dead Monday night, hit up either Big G at The Joy or Gravity A all night show at Blue Nile. You'll want to go to Frenchmen Street Halloween night as there will be thousands and thousands of people out there partying. It's just east of the French Quarter (about 12 blocks east of Canal). That party is one of the best of the year in the city.
After that, make sure to take in a few restaurants. If you say what you like, we can tell you where to go (based on location as well as price). That might help your time out. If there are any places you have in mind, throw them out on the thread, and we'll tell you whether it's thumbs up or down.
Also, if there are any specific hobbies you have that you'd want to indulge in here, we can tell you where to go. Thanks.

airbnb officially fell through. but i did manage to book a hotel in the garden district at a price that was too high but not completely insane, so at least I'm not out by the airport! pumped about that, makes such a big difference waking up and walking to magazine to eat instead of having to eat whatever they eat in Kenner.
In his defense, that scream is nuts. Also, they need to bring back Jerk-Off. If they're gonna play Opiate and Sweat which are both great, throw Jerk-Off in there too.
