In his defense, that scream is nuts. Also, they need to bring back Jerk-Off. If they're gonna play Opiate and Sweat which are both great, throw Jerk-Off in there too.
With a couple of them coming out and playing with Primus the last leg of last tour, maybe we get something random thrown in? Maynard loves NOLA and we love him back.
airbnb officially fell through. but i did manage to book a hotel in the garden district at a price that was too high but not completely insane, so at least I'm not out by the airport! pumped about that, makes such a big difference waking up and walking to magazine to eat instead of having to eat whatever they eat in Kenner.
Nice. As for Kenner, and I can't vouch because I'm never there, apparently Williams Blvd has become sort of a freaky immigrant Mecca for casual, ethnic food. I read this last summer.

Yeah that'd be badass. Jerk-Off makes me wanna run through a wall when I hear it. So good.

Wristbands have been lost in the mail and by some clutch miracle they arrived at my door this morning. Leaving tomorrow early AM. Pumped for my first Voodoo and first time in NOLA. Can't decide between Frenchman and Big G on Halloween. Any last minute tips on places to eat, bars, points of interest to check out? Also how is security at the fest?

You can easily do both. Big G will probably end about 12/12:30, and Frenchmen will still be rolling til 4 or so (though some will make it til dawn).
Where are you staying, and I can drop some recommendations.
Any austin based beer requests for those at Estaban's pad or may run into him?
We always drink Austin Brewing, Ziegenboch and typical ATX stuff when there. If you can find anything obscure (I'm more of an ale/pilsner/lager fan than say Porters and Stouts). I'm not greedy. Any micro booze you can grab would also work. We hit Pink Lady in Dripping Springs last time I was out there, so I've had that.
I know Real Ale Coffee Porter is hard to find if anyone likes that. There's some new breweries here so I may snag a few 6's of those. (for the mornings)

You can totally do both Big G and Frenchmen on Halloween.
As for security, if you are doing Big G at the Joy, def be prepared for a metal wand. There are leos standing around outside so not the best place to be readjusting yourself either.
As for Voodoo, they def check you pretty good getting in, at least last year. As typical for most fests they search harder on Saturday as it gets dark. They search bags using a pokey stick I wanna say but not sure. They used metal wands last year but didn't touch me with them, but dude patted me as well. Sneaking in booze can be tricky especially if your line has employee of the month, but I've never had a problem. Obv they are gonna check cig packs if that is your situation. Once you are inside you are good to go. I've never had any issue whatsoever inside with anything at all. Never seen anyone get arrested inside either and this will be my 12th Voodoo.

I got hardcore patted down last year on Friday. They even made me unzip my boots. Be creative in your hiding if you are sneaking, don't adjust yourself in or near the lines (they have people looking for that and will have security check you extra hard where you adjusted) and just be cool. You should be fine. I have never seen anyone arrested inside the fest and I have only seen them confiscate at the gates if they find shit.
I am driving in for Sunday only and have no clue as to what to do about parking. I am OK taking Uber or Lyft but totally unsure of where to park to do so. Coming in from the east. PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!

Your best best is that neighborhood behind the park. You will get towed parked on the bayou and around City Park if you violate any parking laws. My girl got towed on Marconi Meadows and then they were towing on the bayou last year also. I parked in the neighborhood, but I made sure that I wasn't in any area that had residential issues or meters. They didn't have signs up when my girl parked and they added them while they were towing people off. You might have to park aways away and walk it. That is pretty much where I am. Next year I will definitely be buying the parking passes when I buy my presale tickets.

damn, i'm surprised they towed your friend when she parked at marconi meadows. isn't that technically in the park? and it's a decent hike through the park to the festival grounds too.
anyway i just was doing my own parking research and Cabrini High School is doing parking for voodoo fest:
$20/day, lots open at 4pm on Friday and 10am Saturday and Sunday. Late on Friday because of school. IIRC the Dad's Club of Cabrini runs the parking, and the money raised goes to the school's music program. I'm going to try and park there this year.

Thanks so much. I am gonna go ahead and email them and reserve a spot.

Her tires were in the grass. So she was over the curb. Apparently that is a towable offense. You can't be on the grass. We saved her from being towed on Saturday when she parked on the road next to the bayou. I have parked on the bayou where they were towing for over 10 years without issues until last year. It is legal to park there EVERY weekend of the year, except Voodoo now.
I am not sure where this crazy parking money grab from the city came from. Maybe they realized that Voodoo was selling parking or because of the permits to allow that paid parking. It has gotten real, I am hoping where I am planning on parking is going to be ok and that due to the move of the entrance the walk isn't twice as far.
My girl got ADA wristband due to her double mastectomy/breast cancer healing process. I think we are going to have to drop her off at the ADA drop off and then go and try and get a parking spot. I guess we will have to go pick her up after the fest as well. That sounds miserable actually. Maybe they will have reserved parking for us instead?

Got an email back from Cabrini (that was fast). Although they don't do advance payment reserved parking like they do for jazzfest, he said he would put my name on the gate list and hold me a spot for a couple hours after my arrival time. Cool cool cool.

I got a return email as well with confirmation. Thank you so much for the heads up on this. Have a great fest!!!!!
How am I going to get through work tomorrow y'all? I want to be festing NOW!
Same. What's worse is I have to come in for a few hours on Friday morning! I'm only a couple hours north of NOLA so it won't set me back too much, but work is gonna be the last thing on my mind.
Getting excited guys... we're flying out at 8 AM on Thursday from Baltimore, layover in ATL and then should be in NOLA by 1:30 PM. Really stoked to visit your city, never been! Spending a full week so I'm super pumped for Voodoo, but hanging around for 4 days after the fest to check it out. I have no real point other than I'm fucking ready to goooooooooooooo
You're here for a week? We should meet up for voodoo and afterwards. Also, I work for where magazine I can get you passes to the zoo/aquarium/insectarium and some off the beaten track things to do.
Awesome, I appreciate it! I'll try to hit you up on here at some point while we're in town.
"I am not sure where this crazy parking money grab from the city came from"
It came from y'all's Mayor Dildo Landrieu. That guy is 100% clownshoes
It way predates him. They have been walking neighborhoods and ticketing and towing cars for 25 years whenever there is anything going on. He is somewhat of a chump, but he's eons better than the last 24 years. City hasn't been this good since I was little. And damn, that was decades ago.

Here's a few recommendations. If you're not too dead Monday night, hit up either Big G at The Joy or Gravity A all night show at Blue Nile. You'll want to go to Frenchmen Street Halloween night as there will be thousands and thousands of people out there partying. It's just east of the French Quarter (about 12 blocks east of Canal). That party is one of the best of the year in the city.
After that, make sure to take in a few restaurants. If you say what you like, we can tell you where to go (based on location as well as price). That might help your time out. If there are any places you have in mind, throw them out on the thread, and we'll tell you whether it's thumbs up or down.
Also, if there are any specific hobbies you have that you'd want to indulge in here, we can tell you where to go. Thanks.
Thanks! You guys kick ass. Aside from Voodoo, we're pretty wide open at this point. We very well may be dead Monday, but it's MF'ing Halloween so we'll be ready to go. Frenchmen Street sounds like what we're looking for haha.
We like to pretend that we know a thing or two about good food, so restaurants are definitely a big part of what we're looking to do. Pretty much open to any and all types, but I want to make sure we get to some places with some legit authentic local stuff. I'm going to do a little research tonight, so I'll throw out anything that piques my interest and see what you guys think.

for your po-boy fix, hit up Parkway Bakery and Tavern. It's in midcity not too terribly far from voodoo.
I've recently become enamored with Dat Dog, although I know hotdogs aren't for everyone, their hot dogs are awesome.
For sit down restaurants there are so many good choices, but do your research and don't wander into a tourist trap. I'll just throw out Cochon and Coquette and Cafe Atchafalya as a few I've enjoyed. Tommy's Cuisine in CBD is also awesome, we go there with my parents when we are all in New Orleans.
I always recommend Commander's Palace, but coat and tie are required. Doesn't get much more old school than that place.
