You don't need a jacket and tie at Commanders. Galitoires was the last one and I don't think they even require them anymore. It's hair splitting but I think Bevi is better than Parkway (also close to Voodoo) as they use sesame seed French Bread and toast it. So it ups the flavor. But Parkway is good enough for sure, and we eat there pretty regularly. I'd throw out Peche, Emeril's (fairly cheap lunches), and Angeline. Those are dressier casual but khakis and polo works at all of them. There is high end and dirt cheap. If you're doing absolute local, red beans and rice, shrimp creole, etc., there's a good blue hair joint called Furys and then shit like Mr. Ed's.
bri,
If you go to www.nomenu.com there are restaurants by cuisine, neighborhood, etc. it's about 95-96% current. That's the most comprehensive list I know and a trusted site. Most likely someone on here knows something about anything you list. So throw out whatever catches your attention.

At Galatoire's Restaurant you should still wear a coat at least if not a tie as well. I know that they are more lenient but it is frowned upon and a very upscale restaurant. Commanders is not coat and tie, but you should not be rolling in there in jeans or shorts. Be fucking classy people.
Agreed. Galatoires has jackets hanging up in the front for anyone who wanders in and wants one. I'm interested to see what they come up with as there will be no shortage of recommendations from us in the peanut gallery. And yeah, to the point about openness and hospitality, we are probably one of the friendliest cities in America Some have guessed that it's more of a European way of life here mixed with Southern in that you don't eat to get filled up (usually), it's for enjoyment. People enjoy eating drinking etc so much that they want you to feel that and be happy about the choices.

Wristbands have been lost in the mail and by some clutch miracle they arrived at my door this morning. Leaving tomorrow early AM. Pumped for my first Voodoo and first time in NOLA. Can't decide between Frenchman and Big G on Halloween. Any last minute tips on places to eat, bars, points of interest to check out? Also how is security at the fest?
You can easily do both. Big G will probably end about 12/12:30, and Frenchmen will still be rolling til 4 or so (though some will make it til dawn).
Where are you staying, and I can drop some recommendations.
Glad to hear. We went cheap and are staying at the motel 6 about 4 miles out near the interstate. I'll have my car and uber so it doesn't need to be close I'm ok with traveling to experience the best. No tourist traps looking for something local and authentic.
Also did anyone see that Kevin Gates got sentenced today in court? Porter and Reign are going to be packed now.. Wonder if they can book a high caliber rapper quickly enough to fill in for the after party and fest.
We're staying at The Old #77, so I'm checking out that area to start. Cochon's, Tommy's and Mulate's are looking like good bets.
There are SO MANY restaurants!! Good god! We have our fare share here in B-More but this is intense. I have no idea how we'll even make a decision lol.

The restaurant at your hotel is #1 on my list to eat at, Compere Lapin. Dead fn serious. La Boca absolutely rules. Emerils, Tommy's, Thomas Bistro, particularly Peche (best new US restaurant of 2014 per James Beard awards), all top notch 4 star places which is what I prefer to eat (5* is usually over my head). Herbsaint is pretty good. Cochon rules but you'll have to go early or off hours because besides Voodoo, we are a destination Halloween city.
If you want to try some soul food, Praline Connection on Frenchmen is great. Bacchanal down in the Bywater is highly recommended. Here's the list by neighborhood and you are staying CBD almost Warehouse District which is a few blocks walk. nomenu.com/?page_id=41504
That fucking sucks ass. Friday is my weak day, and I was looking forward to seeing a piece of that show. That's going to be hard to replace and may have been the most packed Pepsi stage show of the weekend. I don't know who they can bring in at that level with 2 days to go.
If he had kicked that girl at Voodoo he def wouldn't have gone to jail though. Longinus and I saw dude from Odd Future (Earl?) straight bitch slap a female photographer in 2012 when she wouldn't leave the photo pit.
Then in like 2014 we saw Ninja from Die Antworrd snatch this photogs camera and chunk it at his face then kick him in the head for not leaving the photo pit.
That was *edit* Left Brain. He hit dat ho in the camera which hit her face. I'm not defending what Gates did but he said bitch grabbed his dick and if he walked up to Manage and stuck his finger in her pussy and she kicked him and knocked out one of his gold teeth, he would have deserved it.
Grabbin' dihs ain't cool yo, except for the majority of the time when it as actually awesome.
Not sure about hitting her camera, we were less than 10 ft away and it sure looked like he winded back and open hand slapped her face.
Yeah, it was Left Brain but in 2011. We were sort of in the back for that show, but it was pretty entertaining. They're douches, but they were fun as OFWGKTA. He slapped her and knocked which knocked the camera out of her hands. She ended up not pressing charges.
Odd Future rapper Left Brain slapped a female photographer during the group's set at a recent music festival.
The performer - real name Vyron Turner - attacked the freelance photographer in the pit during the hip-hop collective's performance at New Orleans' Voodoo Festival on October 30.
Frontman Tyler the Creator ranted about how a barricaded area for professional agency photographers at large events near the stage was unfair on fans, reports Rolling Stone.
Turner then began to attack photographers in the pit by throwing water bottles, kicking equipment over and slapping freelancer Amy Harris in the face.
"I have worked many shows before, and I've had to deal with a band flinging water at the photographers, but I never expected this to happen," Harris explained.
"In the pit, the male to female ratio is about 20 to 1. There were way more men in that pit than women."
Harris has declined to file an assault charge against Turner and has insisted that her camera equipment was not damaged.
Yeah, come the fuck on tomorrow! Voodoo made an announcement on Kevin Gates that says:
Unfortunately Kevin Gates is unable to perform at Voodoo Music & Arts Festival due to an unforeseen incarceration. Keep an eye here and on the official app for schedule updates.

This all makes me laugh. Voodoo/NOLA is just ratchet and rolls with the punches.....literally.

You're here for a week? We should meet up for voodoo and afterwards. Also, I work for where magazine I can get you passes to the zoo/aquarium/insectarium and some off the beaten track things to do.
Awesome, I appreciate it! I'll try to hit you up on here at some point while we're in town.
I also just found tickets to the National WWII Museum in my desk if you would like.
