LCD is the 2nd best whoring festival act in recent memory only behind OutKast
Except for the fact that OutKast is actually headliner worthy, where is LCD is good, but not headliner worthy and the only reason they are headlining is cuz they fooled Coachella and Bonnaroo into thinking they would just headline those festivals.

WHAT IS GOING ON HERE!!!! HOW DO WE AGREE ON SO MUCH LATELY?!

Still looking for a valid arguement as to why LCD isn't headliner worthy other than "because I said so."
Because they have never had a real mainstream hit. Daft Punk is playing at my house is the closest that they have ever had to a hit. Besides paid for radio, they don't get ANY radio play. That might have changed recently due to the fact that they are headlining festivals right now. You may love them, but the vast majority of people have no clue who the fuck they are, and that is why they are not headliner material.

Longtime lurker / occasional poster but...
I don't understand the whole LCD headlining fiasco either but I do understand that their breakup (*ahem* hiatus) was one of the most brilliant marketing moves of all time.
Nothing against them or their fans but if memory serves, they were a 3rd-line (possibly 2nd at best) act at festivals pre-breakup (*ahem* hiatus) and now, without any new (major) material, are being top-billed throughout the festival season.
Not saying they are or are not worthy, just that I can't remember an act who in their prime were mid-tier and then in ~5 years, w/out any new material or publicity, they skyrocket to the top as if they were once top-tier and then suddenly returned after "hell froze over."
That being said - I wouldn't miss them if our paths cross barring an absolutely brutal conflict.

What is crazy about going from a second line sub-headliner to a headliner on your next tour?

It's no different than Prince. While most on Inforoo would like you to think he would be the greatest thing to happen to a festival billing ever, he's a niche act worshipped by a fringe subset and the reason why he never shows up on a lineup is because no one wants to pay the absurd booking fee for that self-promoter who would draw crickets at most major festivals unless he was unopposed and there was no other choice.

It's not that they made the jump. It's the fact that they were closer to third tier, "broke up", haven't put out music in five years, didn't see an increase in popularity during time off, and then they come back and are headliners. That's why.
LCD is just another soft headliner allowing festivals to spend more on their other headliners that cost double or more. Many times these cheaper headliners end up putting on the best headlining show of the fest.

This is wrong.
it's bait
Unfortunately this kid is too fucking stupid to be this good of a troll. He has no idea that Prince filled up the Superdome in nola 2 years ago with nosebleed tickets costing more than GNR nosebleeds this tour. He has no idea that Prince only plays theaters on a regular basis because he's a badass and wants the best environment for his sound. He seriously thinks that the biggest rockstar alive now would draw crickets at a music festival just because most of the ones that he is interested in this year are catering to kids his age. We can only hope that he dies in a very painful manner before he ever has a chance to breed or to post in this thread again.
Here is my thing. I'm interested to see how good they are at Coachella. Worst case scenario is that Voodoo gets them and I close with somebody else. Best case, alright that set kicked some ass.
Bring some midcard fucking metal acts Voodoo for one of the back stages. And give me some Judas Priest, Alice in Chains and Suicidal on the main stage mfs
Itll be interesting to see all these major fests shut down for booking LCD. I hate to call them a cult classic because they never sucked, and were very successful. Their popularity grew even after their break up. I never started listening til a few years ago and realized "holy shit, they're behind all these badass songs.?" they just flew well enough under the radar to never be fully mainstream.
As much as I may like Outkast, I doubt they would have headlined before big boi and andre went separate directions, and they also were considered a slim chance of reunion at the time

That's a fair reposte no doubt but I'll counter your counter with if... Faith No More or Tiesto or Pavement or Thom Yorke were billed top 3-4 at the big 3-5 NA fests this year (without releasing any new material in the meantime) I think you'd see it the same way a lot of others see it.
It's nothing against LCD whatsoever. It's more of a shout out to their agent/mgr for me. Well done sir. Well done indeed.
Who cares? I don't give a shit if LCD draws. I'd rather LCD headline the main stage of Voodoo over Calvin Harris. Voodoo has another main stage specifically for your laptop noise hustlers that's going to draw the same amount of doofuses regardless. No need for 4/6 headliners to be that shit.

Mother fuckin DOOFUSES!
Fyi, I agree. You know the Hangout situation. Id sacrifice Calvy and the Weeknd for LCD and have beachbob headline Saturday.
LCD was #2 at Brochella. So what? Coachella booked Phoenix as a #1 that one year and those guys sucked and played an afternoon set at Roo the year before. Brochella has a clothing line and tries to trend set everyone's shit for the year.
LCD played at Roo late night in 2010 in a fuckin' tent. There ya go.

lol'in @ laptop noise hustlers
And shouldn't it be doofi?
The argument I read was they were a mid tier band, third line at best, yet here they are 1 slot from headlining.

Your point was accurate. To be sure, they kind of rose up from nowhere to claim headliner status. But everyone's been hankering for something different anyway. They aren't positioned to make or break my Voodoo Fest. It's more like a bonus if I end up liking some of their stuff, as I'm utterly and honestly unfamiliar.

On LCD Soundsystem as a headliner:
Does LCD's popularity, before or after breakup, merit them having a headline spot? No.
Does the quality of LCD's music, regardless of whether the doofi masses grok it, merit them having a headline spot? Yes.
So lets just enjoy for a minute that a relatively unpopular band with objectively good songwriting chops gets to headline all the festivals for a year and get paid. Good for them, good for us.
On Outkast as a headliner:
Everyone in the world fucking loves Outkast.
On Prince as a headliner:
Choose to assume was troll post, but I've never seen an artist destroy an arena like Prince did at MSG 12/29/2010 when he opened with The Beautiful Ones. Not sure who else can wipe an audience's brains clean with a solo piano number like that. Then into Lets Go Crazy and I don't know what the hell happened after that.
If you don't like/care for LCD, that's fine by me. I def think agree Outkast re-union fest whoring > LCD's. Calling them a mid-card level band after a 5 year break-up/hiatus/marketing ploy just because you "don't get it" is pretty ignorant.
In 2016, Prince as a headliner at say, Bonnaroo or any major non-Essence festival would be the biggest party of the year.
Was anyone at his Brochella show? Were people having a good time or where they checking each others fashions and privileges the entire time? I ask because Outkast did not go over at all there, but then Hangout went apeshit.
At the Roo '13 hiphop superjam, Wu Tang was bitching about brochella being weak bitches that didn't show no love. Best crowd participation was Method Mang starting a chant of "FUCK CO-CHEL-LA, BON-A-ROOOOOOO!"

Does James Murphy's weiner taste as good as you are making it sound?
In all seriousness, I like LCD Soundsystem and am glad I am hopefully going to get them as a headliner spot over someone like, say, Calvin Harris or Kings of Dildo at Voodoo this year.
I think LCD's popularity increased while they were gone, bc edm in general did.
I think the hype they've gotten for this reunion tour is warranted for, say, The Talking Heads, but not for them. LCD was cool when I saw them because I didn't know ANYTHING about them, so it was a complete virgin experience.
