Initial thoughts: Who was in charge of the hip hop this year? Vince Williams. Lizzo. Is Post Malone a real thing? This is atrocious. Ive had mixtapes handed to me at Wawa with better material. Bonnaroo commemorated 15 years with one banjo player per year of existence it seems. I petition Kamasi Washington for late night. We got a good amount of genres represented. One thing lacking this year for a majority of festivals. Diversity. Superjam has potential. Wouldnt mind if Griz and Lettuce got together. Maybe a Funk Superjam of some sorts. Funny story, I was just thinking how bad Third Eye Blind was a few days ago. Kurt and Marian Hill representing this lil corner of PA.
IceCream Flavor Rating: Cheap Brand Chocolate. It soothes your craving, not vanilla, but no1 wants a plain scoop. We at least need to add some toppings.
While I love Inforoo as an overall community, sometimes the pessimistic nature of a large bunch is overwhelming. Nonetheless, I'm pumped for all of the following acts and I'm excited to explore even more ... Don't knock the undercard until you've checked out every last one of these quackers!
allen stone - big grams - bluegrass situation superjam featuring ed helms - boy & bear - brett dennen - bully - borns - cashmere cat - chris stapleton - chvrches - con brio - daughter - death cab for cutie - father john misty - fidlar - goldlink - griz - j cole - jarryd james - jason isblell - judah & the lion - kamasi washington - leon bridges - lettuce - the london souls - lord huron - lucius - m83 - marian hill - miguel - nathaniel rateliff & the light sweats - the oh hellos - oh wonder - rayland baxter - saint motel - sam bush band - superjam - tame impala - third eye blind - twin peaks - two door cinema club - tyler the creator - vince staples - ween
In my book, that's a crazy good list to be STARTING with before even checking out the rest, and of course don't forget the later club stage additions, random additions (last year that brought us Kacey & DeAngelo) and whoever Conan will be sending our way (I'm more than happy if it's just the suspected headliners btw!).
Radiate Positivity mother quackers.
Totally agree. I don't get it when people freak just because their favorite band they wanted isn't there. If you don't recognize artists you like then you discover new ones. It blows my mind these guys are festival people.
I know. How dare these people have a certain level of expectation for a festival that now costs more than $400 to attend. The vibes alone are worth the cost of a GA ticket.
The names at the bottom of this lineup actually excite me. London Souls are amazingly tight -- Tash Neal is one of the most exciting guitarists out there.
Roman Gianarthur practically never plays shows outside of Atlanta. The most talented member of the Wondaland crew and a Prince-level performer. Check out his D'Angelo/Radiohead mashup album OK LADY. Some of the most psychedelic soul you'll ever hear.
Con Brio is also worth checking out. Singer's got amazing pipes and they'll keep the crowd groovin allllll night. Or most likely wake up at noon in a tent.
how many artist did they add last year? is it more because they put out the lineup early? i really enjoy the headliners this year but ill be able to catch the dead and lcd on their summer tours.
Every repreat act I would be excited about are acts I saw in 2013. In (most likely) smaller tents. M83 is at 80% of festivals. Vince and Tyler are good but the hip hop is fucking atrocious. I have no interest in Grungeford and Sons. That's about it.
Those toilets must have been expensive because they obviously didn't spend the increased ticket prices on musical talent.

So not that it matters a whole lot at this point, but can we pin this lineup on Live Nation? They were kind of handed the LCD Soundsystem reunion this year, so we can't even give them credit for that.
So, looking at it this morning, I still think it's mediocre, especially compared to what I know Bonnaroo can do, but I still like it? It's on par with Governor's Ball for my taste, and while they might have a slight advantage with one rare act that I care about (Robyn), Bonnaroo's still 3/3 for headliners for me (none of whom I've see before), and I'm satisfied with that.
Honestly, I'd be at Coachella in a heartbeat instead if it was at all logistically feasible for me at this moment in time, but since I can't do that, I am more than happy with this. So, I suppose I'm happy with mediocrity. I'm okay with that. I love to have fun.
I will say I would actually probably not mind seeing Borns.
Saw him a few weeks ago. GREAT concert. He would be a really good Thursday Night act that people who don't know him would probably walk away from pretty happy.

I've already found a handful of gems and I haven't checked out much so far, this line up is growing on me. Con Brio, Civil Twilight, and Hermitude are a good start.

nah I don't think so. I know there is a lot of disappointment but it's not like this is a shocking change in booking style for bonnaroo. I haven't done an act for act comparison to last year but the attitude of the board right now feels very similar to the attitude this time last year.

I think the reason why the lineup is lacking is because of the new bathrooms, showers, and whatever else they're adding. This won't be an ongoing lineup bust, no one flatlines like this and then does it again next year. Sad that it happened during their anniversary, but I really think that's why it's lacking this year.

This lineup seems to be aimed squarely at the "college kids who say they listen to all genres of music but really just listen to the radio" demographic. And they did a bang up job.

I wasn't thrilled with the lineup last year, but made peace with it since I found enough in the undercard.
Been going to Roo since 2010 and this is by far the worst lineup I've seen them put out. Pearl Jam and LCD are great bookings, Dead & Co is good, just not into jam bands here. Other than that...this looks really bleak. Where is the token nostalgia act? Third Eye Blind...ummmm, they played Firefly last summer. The EDM on this thing is dreadful, is there not an EDM headliner? I find it pretty shocking that they'd go from Skrillex, Deadmau5, Bassnectar, and Pretty Lights being the highest billed EDM to having RL Grime or Flosstradamus being billed highest. Shaky Knees has a much better lineup, as does Gov Ball and Coachella. Kind of wish my boyfriend wasn't responsible and bought a pre-sale ticket, kind of locks us into Roo this year, ugh.
They have to be holding back the top 6 acts, even if you put the Pearl Jam, LCD, and Dead on the lineup the billing looks shockingly weak. Tame Impala at 5 or 6 when they're 9 at Firefly? I'm really hoping they have some surprises in store. Other than that this is the list of acts I'm excited for:
PJ LCD Tame Impala DCFC M83 Miguel CHVRCHES Big Grams Grace Potter Purity Ring Two Door Cinema Club Borns
Only 12 acts over 4 days, if any of these conflict looks like I'll have a pretty shitty time.
Because this lineup is $400+ I'm doing either Gov Ball (brother lives in Brooklyn, could make a week of it) or Pitchfork (likely more to my tastes and I can drive to Chicago easily). Sorry Bonnaroo but J Cole, Macklemore and Ellie Goulding doesn't get me excited.
What's bad is that with the right four or so names (that are completely plausible) added this lineup could be great. Bonnaroo already has the most interesting top line, but one of the most "meh" undercards. I really didn't think they'd blow it with who is touring and with who is available and with Roo's budget. Hopefully we're missing a few names and get some choice additions. I'm not asking for anything major, just something to give it a little umph.
Possible. But not counting on it.
The only reason to expect anything more is because there's some odd things with the leak 1) listing tame impala as a late night. Why the need to specify it? 2) the fact that the headliners aren't on there. If the lineup leaked, why didn't the whole thing leak?
Part of me wants to be hopeful and think this was on purpose and they have some surprises come next Tuesday. The realistic part of me knows this is it(minus the top 3).
How many festivals released their lineups early this year? The game changes, maybe releasing the lineup in bulk on their app is bonnaroos way of attempting to acclimate. The TI LN thing really confuses me, I don't remember them ever specifying that. I'm not expecting more than 3 headliners added to this, but I don't think this was accidental and I certainly don't think anyone is losing their job this morning over a leak. If there are more than 3 names added to this list next Tuesday, I'm going to assume this was a hilariously shortsighted stab at "viral" marketing.
