I'm still hung up on how the hell White Denim isn't on the lineup. And Portgual. The Man and Shpongle were supposed to be confirmed from the bands themselves ... It's official, can't trust anyone's scoopz anymore.
Honestly, the hip hop undercard isn't all that bad this year. There obviously no comparison between J Cole and any of the former top hip hop acts, but I think people will feel differently about Post Malone, Goldlink, and Lizzo by June.
If you swapped Chance the Rapper with one of the top 2 acts, it'd be on par other years.
Goldlink live is pretty mediocre.
Expand on Goldlink for me.
I'm a fan of his first couple of projects and since rap is so thin I'm looking forward to his show.
Which is why I said it seems like they would have learned from that. Just throwing some ideas out there. I'm sure this is the lineup, but for those that hate it its not official until its official. Just hoping for more than the 3 acts we know and maybe 3 more that won't sway anyone one way or the other.
Sorry. I'm from Arkansas. We can't really read. (actually, i only read the first half of the message so I really am sorry for coming off as a jerk)
I wonder if the interns that did this got let go? lol
I would hope so, but whoever came up with this lineup probably promoted them.
Would Alvvays be a Cafe act? If so, there may still be hope for them to be added. I personally have a bunch that I want to see and haven't seen yet. Or that I was thinking of buying tickets to go see, but that my budget isn't quite agreeing with. There are just a few that I have been wanting to see, and that I thought were going to be on the lineup due to "confirmations" that aren't on it. I hope that they get added, but being happy about 2 of the headliners and between 25-30 makes it worthwhile for me.
I think Alvvays is a good deal bigger than a lot of acts already listed. I posted in the up and coming acts thread last year that I'd like to see Roman Gianarthur as a cafe addition. I didn't expect him to be on the initial lineup leak.
I am not sure that Alvvays is that much bigger, all the lineups I have seen them on they have been towards the bottom, but who knows what a year does and I have seen a bunch of folks mention them. Roman Gianarthur... you have just added an artist I need to check out to my list, I love Janelle Monae and everything I just read has now put him on my radar. Thanks.
Just have to say, I think it's sneaky-hilarious that the debate forever was "Are we getting Macklemore or J. Cole?" and we got both ... Doubling down on disappointment, Bonnaroo is.
This lineup seems to be aimed squarely at the "college kids who say they listen to all genres of music but really just listen to the radio" demographic. And they did a bang up job.
The repeated acts really stand out to (and irk) me. If you went in the last four years, you could have already seen: Tame Impala, J. Cole, Macklemore, CHVRCHES, Haim, Purity Ring, Father John Misty, Bully, X Ambassadors. That's just at a glance.
There's some very good and very bad in my repeats list, but the first 7 will probably fall somewhere in or around the top 30. The first 3 are top 10. Book something new, especially with the better variety of top 30 acts touring this year.
I know. How dare these people have a certain level of expectation for a festival that now costs more than $400 to attend. The vibes alone are worth the cost of a GA ticket.
I get it, y'all like to pick on me because I actually enjoy the little community Bonnaroo creates just as much as the lineup. I have seen a bunch of these artists before. But I'm excited to see them at Roo specifically. I'd personally pick a roo show over a regular show anytime, just because in my Nashville experience, people get more excited for the artist at this festival than at a show. But that may be Nashville being too pretentious.
I completely agree. I've lived in Nashville basically my whole life, and there was one point where crowds would get so hype and into the show but lately they have been a lot more tame. Probably the "new Nashville" crowd. At Grimes back in November we felt like we were the only ones dancing in the area we were in!
I'm just glad a lot of the people I go with care less about the lineup than me. Like most of us, I know too much music and am aware of too many artists they missed out on to be satisfied. But most of my crew are fine with it, which is good in that it reminds me how fun the festival is.
For every 20 members of the Vibez Crew, there's one person who cares about the actual lineup.

I only caught two or three songs by him and his band at Day For Night. They were really good and he had that audience captivated. Con Brio on the undercard is the same way. There are numerous acts like those that could keep me interested at Bonnaroo and it would be neat to see them all at the same place over the same weekend. It's just that the fees and increases in price leave a bad taste and overall I don't feel like I'm getting the same value I once did on the farm.

I don't care where Alvvays play as long as they're on the poster.

My first Bonnaroo was slammed with 'holy shit!' artists. It's been declining since. This year is ugggg. I love Pearl Jam. Would definitely be down for the Dead. Don't know LCD at all, no opinion yet. I would be down to see.. CHVRCHES. FatherJohn. Kurt Ville. Lamb of God. Macklemore. Nthaniel Rateliff. 3EB. Tame Impala. Superjam. 2 Door Cinema. X Ambassadors.
Shakey Knees, I would be super pumped for Flo, MMJ, Janes, Walk the moon, Vaccines, Black Angels, Cold War Kids, Foals, Silversun, Shakey Graves, Houndmouth, EODM, UMO. I would be down to see.. many others. So far 13-1 for Shakey Knees. That makes me sad.
It is VERY possible to have awesome vibes and an awesome lineup, I've seen Bonnaroo do it, but so far not this year.
I'll go ahead and be the guy to ignore public perception and say that Macklemore is a great artist for Bonnaroo.
I was reluctantly dragged to his show in 2013 and honestly it's a blast. The dude emanates positive energy.
Hey kids, it "#radiatepositivity.". Get it right or lay the price.
Hahahaha. I'm no member of the VIBEZZZ crew/#radiatepositivity crew, but it's dumb to ignore the fact that some acts are just fun, vapid, crowd energy type of acts. For me, these performances help me shake the weight of the world and settle into the type of atmosphere that Roo is attempting to create every year.

Considering you've found the need to respond to my threads as if you are threatened by me I offer you some peace my confused counterpart. May you find peace in your restless soul.
If vibez are all you care about, you don't have to drop $400. Drop $150 on one of the many many wook festivals that permeate this land and you'll get the same experience.
Well the environments and culture are different between roo and a wook fest. I prefer the bonnaroo community more than the purely drugy one I've witnessed at wooks fest. And don't think just because you continue to say vibez that it discredits those who enjoy the experience for things other than the lineup.

Yeah I like going to the movie theater for things other than the movie I am seeing too.

Yes, I actually do. Going to a midnight premiere is awesome because i get to be with a bunch of other rambunctious fans who also enjoy the same think I do tremendously.
Had never heard this Floss act before so I looked them up to see if they're really as bad as y'all are saying.
Jesus Christ could not make it even one minute into a song. Painful experience
Check out the Floozies tho, freal.
I have. Definitely an act I see you digging haha but I'm pretty neutral on what I've heard so far. Like yeah I could probably be dragged there around 2 am on some night where the only other options are Adventure Club and Third Eye Blind, but...

At Coachella a few years back their "special guest" was Soulja Boy. So realize that it can get worse.
Thing is, the LN could be great if shitty acts like Floss and AC etc etc are paired up against Tame, Purity Ring, CHVRCHES, Goldlink, M83, etc.... But nope. I'm sure the schedule is gonna put at least half of those within the afternoon hours of Saturday and Sunday.
A super well constructed schedule could get me genuinely excited for this year. A super poorly constructed one might push me towards selling my ticket and finding another way to see LCD this summer.

Also, the large screens are something I don't have access to in my house. There's something about those fountain cokes too. See? Overall experience, more than just the primary content.
