As someone who's going for his first time you guys are depressing the fuck out of me
Don't worry about it. Those who hate it the most are the old school veterans who want it to stay the way it was. Roo is fantastic every year. The line-up now changes yearly with what is popular and will bring people. But it used to just be Jam and rock. You will likely only be able to see 20-25 acts anyway so if you like the entire lineup then you are guaranteed to be screwed by the schedule.
I literally went through all 5 stages yesterday and accepted the fact that this lineup is bad but there are still quite a few bands that I'd really like to see and I'll have a great time. But now I'm back to denial again.
Bonnaroo: The only music festival that will make you go through the 5 Stages of Grief. Twice
Last year I went through all that (funny how then they had a good undercard and shit headliners, and this year it's the reverse).
This time I'm just sort of like "well it sucks, ah well. I can just spend the money at a different fest."
I'm seriously considering it, so far Governors Ball looks more appealing to me. But even though I've gone to 4 out of the last 6 Bonnaroos, my girlfriend has never been and I've been hyping up how great Bonnaroo is for so long that it's going to be hard to say "Remember that music festival that I've talked about nonstop for the last 6 months? Yeah, fuck that place we're going to NYC instead. It is Yeezy Season after all."
And there are still acts that are playing Bonnaroo that I've wanted to see for a long time like Pearl Jam, Tame Impala, and M83 so it's not like I won't have any fun and it'll be great to go with someone who's never experienced Bonnaroo before because as much as we love to complain, it's really hard to go to Bonnaroo and not have a great time. Hopefully I can do Bonnaroo on the cheap and then when Osheaga drops a great lineup I can still do a weekend in Montreal thanks to that great exchange rate we've got going.

Random observation about the potential overall crowd demo at Roo 2016.
Lest we forget, the vast majority of Bonnaroo attendees (meaning the ones that do not post on a Bonnaroo message board, who in fact most likely at this moment are completely unaware that any lineup has leaked) go for the headliners.
So while at a glance I look at this lineup and think the crowd will be 100% 21 year olds with RVs and ready to party, it's much more likely the crowd looks about like it has the past few years, but probably a bit crunchier due to Dead & Co.

Don't listen to us curmudgeons. Bonnaroo is a great time regardless. Many of us aren't thrilled about the lineup but the last thing I want to do is ruin someone else's time.

It's going to be an amazing time. You'll love it. We aren't the typical festival-goer on here. We're the hardcore bunch that follow along with festival and lineup news (even for a number of festivals we're not planning to go to) all year round. We are jaded and have been to too many festivals so we feel like we know best.
You're going to love it. Be sure to explore all that Bonnaroo has to offer. It's not just music but a lot of awesome comedians, unique movie/TV screenings, amazing vendors and activities with a lot of other people having a great time.
We're bitching so much because we know Bonnaroo can (and should) do better in terms of the acts on the lineup. We've seen them blow it out of the park in the past so even though a lot of us can be let down by the lineup this year we know Bonnaroo can still be a great time overall.

It's growing on me, but I think it's just cause I want so badly to be in that LCD pit.
It has grown on me too - for that reason, and because I've already found a few great acts that I didn't know before and I am genuinely interested in seeing now.
Still don't love it, but the projected glory of LCD Pit is certainly helping things and so is finding some gems in the undercard.
Considering you've found the need to respond to my threads as if you are threatened by me I offer you some peace my confused counterpart. May you find peace in your restless soul.
I mean, Bonnaroo is releasing the lineup on Conan, why would they intentionally leak their lineup when they have an exclusive contract to do it on national tv? They did it later at night hoping that no one would notice but if someone did and found out that Chvrches and Two Door Cinema Club are playing ANOTHER festival, who cares? Conan will still release the headliners and the 3-4 "surprise" acts on his show which will be great for him and Bonnaroo.
......or, I'm still in the denial stage.
This is a well thought out theory.... but Bonnaroo did book some exclusive acts that weren't appearing on other lineups that were announced yet.
Big acts.
J Cole and Macklemore. That's the surprise.
Kind of like when you would light a bag of dog turd on fire in HS and leave it on someone's doorstep. That kind of surprise.
Please explain. Do you think the leak is fake? If so, why? Or do you think it's real, but intentional? Either way, I'm interested in your views on the subject.
I'm addressing the hype more than believing a possible fake. But I believe leak is an educated guess
You're better off talking about us being buddy's, buddy.
I know I don't post here much, but since everyone is getting their tinfoil on I'm gonna through my educated guess in.
I don't think that Bonnaroo screwed up or it was a leak. I think that Bonnaroo had to live test the app to make sure that it actually worked and wouldn't crash (like HBO Go during the Game of Thrones premier) when everyone simultaneously logs on Tuesday night to see the lineup. Instead of putting every single name on, they added the majority in order to work out the bugs but still left off the more exclusive artists. This would explain why the headliners were left off, why the Superjam was so weird, and why the lineup looks so vanilla.
I think that's the only feasible theory. But in that case why would they test it with 93 bands? Why not just like, 10?
I'm not sure, volume maybe? You can't really see if there are issues if you only add in 10 bands. Plus if you're adding in bands and you don't care if they get leaked, adding them all at one time is just more efficient. Yeah, you'll have to go back and do the exclusives later but you'll save time now and still won't screw up your contract with Conan. Just a guess though
Manic depressive - person that thinks the entire line up was posted (including headliners)
Pessimist - person that thinks the entire under card was posted except for the 3 named headliners (PJ, LCD, D&C)
Realist - person that thinks the entire under card was posted except for the 3 headliners and MAYBE an additional 4th headliner
Optimist - person that thinks the entire under card was posted except for selected great acts that will salvage the lineup
Lunatic - person that thinks the lineup was just a big joke and we are getting an entire new lineup way better than Cochella's
Ben Franklin, "I'd rather be a pessimist because then I can only be pleasantly surprised."
This is kinda offensive, and considering that ~1.5-2% of the US population is diagnosed manic depressive, you have no idea how many people on this very forum may be bipolar. I feel like people probably don't want their mental illness being used as the means to the ends of a bad joke here. Just my two cents

For those who are REALLY upset with this partial lineup, you guys remind me of the folks over at /mu/. (I say this in the best possible way!!!) But I completely understand the outrage. I always look forward too those "classic" acts and rare gems. Where the hell are those??? But as someone whose been too roo 2009, 2011, 2015, there's ALOT of bands I haven't seen yet that are on this lineup. Tame Impala, Mack, LCD, PJ, Dead and Company, Vulfpeck, Dungen, M83, Kamasi Washington, and SO much more.
Also living in Florida, I know it sucks here, we don't we don't have much of an option for live shows down here, so roo has always been my place to see those bands I'd never get to see otherwise. (And so I'm totally jealous of those of you who live in HUGE markets like NY/NE and get to have the choice of Gov Ball, Newport, Firefly, etc.) So roo is really my closest chance of getting my live music fill, so to speak...
I guess since I haven't gone every year to roo, or don't see as many live shows as some of you do I'm sure, I couldn't possibly understand the disappoint those of you who do are feeling. But as someone who is going to their 4th roo, I can say that I'm happy with this lineup. Sure, it could be better, but I'm holding out on some surprises. We'll see Tuesday. (But I'm not holding my breath.)

I'm simultaneously very jealous that you got to go to Roo 2009, and very confused as to how you then chose 2011 and 2015 as your next two years to go.

I was in college, so I wasn't working much and I had no money. And I'm not in the #vibez crew. (College aged pseudo hippies who go to roo on their parents dime)
I'm so confused by this lineup. It's like a college radio dj curated it. It's like they booked the headliners for bonnaroo and he undercard for firefly. I'm gonna go see ratatat now and try not to think about skipping a year on the farm.

ooch - point well taken. no offense intended
Thanks for being receptive to the criticism; I just really don't like when people make jokes at the expense of mental illness. But I dont think you meant it in a purposely negative way, so no worries

Anyone else thinking that the late-night lineup announcement is due to DeadCo summer tour announcement coming on Monday or Tuesday?
Or just me?
Does anyone else care?
I can't think of a good reason why Bonnaroo would think announcing it on Conan is a good idea and I'm a fan of Conan.
Maybe TBS will be sponsoring the comedy tent this year (did they do it last year?) like IFC has done in the past and this is part of the deal.
Totally agree. I'd love to watch it, but I don't have cable, and none of my friends do, so I guess I'm just not? Unless there's a livestream of his show, which I seriously doubt there is.
It's extremely exclusive, especially given that a large number of millenials don't have cable subscriptions. I really, really don't understand the choice here.
