Whether it's your first Bonnaroo or you’re a music festival veteran, we welcome you to Inforoo.
Here you'll find info about artists, rumors, camping tips, and the infamous Roo Clues. Have a look around then create an account and join in the fun. See you at Bonnaroo!!
If Miguel and the Superjam have minimal overlap, it might be a decent night.
Remember when Bonnaroo booked Skrillex' Superjam, Flaming Lips, Frank Ocean and Nick Cave to play the same time slot, and inforoo could not stop bitching about it?
Pepperidge Farm remembers.
give me 4 good-to-great choices than "meh" and "hopefully it isn't cheesy bullshiz!"

Im officially out. I cant justify going to this thing this year. Too weak all around. These last 2 additions sealed it. I had hopes that at least 3 or 4 decent additions would be made, but yeah no. I really wanted to go but man is this lineup sour. Im probably just too old to get half of the acts on it

So seems like LCD will have a regular headlining slot, so that's good. Saturday is weak though. They better have something crazy planned for the superjam.
Maybe because no one shows up? How many times can you book acts like Nick Cave and Atomic Bomb and see them play to a half empty tent before you decide fuck it. Unlike other festivals Bonnaroo has to worry about ticket sales.
Sad, but way too true.
We're the ones that have been deceiving ourselves for years. It's just so obvious at this point that you can't hide from it.
yep. we simply aren't the bonnaroo target market anymore.
Also, I find it really hard to support any festival that booked all of the following: Macklemore, Halsey, Sam Hunt, X Ambassadors, Goldlink, The Chainsmokers, Post Malone and Bryson Tiller.
Never heard of Bryson, but this dude is just a D-grade Weeknd.
I also have passionate opinions about artists I'd never heard of until 5 minutes ago.
I laughed aloud. Yeah, I don't know just yet, but I think this dude might be pretty good. I think Friday night is crazy strong. I think M83 > LCD > Tame Impala > Blood Orange > Bob Moses will be a phenomenal run.
And I am looking forward to Miguel for sure, though I'll agree the rest of Saturday late night is a bit lacking as of now. Looks like they have a couple more slots to fill, to be fair.

Just curious, who do you think they are targeting? I'm talking with a lot of folks that I used to go with from the first few years of Roo who are coming back for the first time in a long time. I'm glad the crowd could be a little older this year compared to years past.
LOL. Not sure what's going on this year, or what the hell kind of audience Bonnaroo is trying to appeal to, but that Saturday late night lineup is looking as bad as Saturday LN 2012, minus a D'Angelo Superjam.
?
I'm trying to remember 2012 late nights, but if I'm not mistaken, wasn't that Umphrey's double set on Friday and then Saturday was Spectrum Road (which is perhaps one of the best acts that ever played Bonnaroo), Skrillex and GZA at 4am?
It's not even possible to suggest that Spectrum Road is bad. That floors me. People may or may not be fans of instrumental jazz improvisation, but it was a Top 2 or 3 set for me at Bonnaroo. It was also the first time I saw Skrillex. I decided to give him a chance to annoy me out of the area. I stuck it out okay. Then I think GZA was around 4, and it was starting to rain/mist a little. I thought that was decent.
I know some other people we were with ended up going to Alice Cooper after RHCP and someone else went to the Superjam after Spectrum Road.
So which acts this year get screwed playing a daylight set when they should obviously be LN? Not being snarky, I'm seriously curious as to what you folks think.
That's going to be Papadosio. That's a 2-4am band at Waka. They'll probably get an afternoon set where they should otherwise be in the Tribe slot from last year. I know people want to hate on Papa D, but they've always been great when I've seen them and are super nice guys too.

We can only hope that papadosio closes a tent on Thursday. Unfortunately I don't think its going to happen.

Nah, they'll close at tent Thursday. I'll take that bet.

If they don't I'm gonna be pissed. They will probably get dopapods spot last year which will suck balls.
Disregarding the kind of artists they book, I'm especially curious about the just the lack of artists on Saturday. It doesn't seem like there are enough late night sets too fill up the late night stages (assuming they do it like the past with 2 in each tent and 1 or 2 on which).

I think the target market is college students, particularly younger ones, east of the Mississippi. In fact I think this has always been Bonnaroo's target market since its inception, it's just that the tastes of that demographic has changed.
A lot of these college students will do Bonnaroo once for the experience and be done with it. But Bonnaroo will get their hooks into some and create repeat customers. They will continue to bring these customers back for a while with lineups they enjoy, but as the customers grow out of Roo's target demo, it becomes more nostalgia and inertia that brings them back, while they "settle" for the lineup. Until they reach an age where the lineup is so not in line with their tastes that they finally break the cycle and stop attending. This is happening on a larger scale than usual within inforoo in 2016. But that nostalgia and inertia is a very strong pull. We all want to be back there in that place where we created so many great memories, so we do mental gymnastics to convince ourselves its worth it.
As for your friends from the first few years of Roo who are showing a renewed interest in this lineup, I think they see Dead & Co. and Sam Bush Band and go "woah", then nostalgia does the rest. I also had some friends I went to roo with in 2003 and 2004 contact me VERY excited about the 2016 lineup when it was released. They pointed to Dead & Co and the bluegrass tent/superjam (they were unaware the bluegrass superjam has been happening regularly for a few years).
I know my above theory isn't perfect, and I know everyone on inforoo who is disillusioned with the current year lineup aren't all thirty somethings, but this is how it plays out in my head.
Also I am firmly riding my nostalgia and inertia straight into Bonnaroo 2016, and I know I'm gunna have a fucking blast.

Pete Davidson had Roo on his tour dates, funny guy. I met him and hung out for a bit last year. He said him and Tyler The Creator are buddies so he'll probably be at his set.

My guess is the Superjam will be the only thing booked in it's respective tent with two acts in each of the other tents and no LN Which act.

I agree with this. Most of my group is only going so they can get "the bonnaroo experience" that's been so hyped at least once. We are definitely settling with the lineup but know we are going to have a blast.

Agreed. I remember the first wave of people quitting Bonnaroo, those that were upset by the booking of bands like Tool and The Police, coupled with the ban on campground vending and other things. I think we're just at that stage in our Bonnaroo cycle.

As a college student, Bonnaroo has always been a draw because with its centralized location and on site camping. It eliminates a lot of problems that come up when I look at other festivals. In Some states you have to be 21 to book a hotel, and even older to get a car. So the only way I could feasibly go to a place like Gov Ball or Coachella, I would have to have some sort of friend or family connection so I could stay somewhere and maybe drive a car if I fly (another additional cost). I think while the lineup is weak, they've done a pretty good job of hitting their target market, and also throwing in acts that can persuade "real" music fans to go (LCD, Tame Impala, Kamasi Washington, ect)

Great points. I feel this tremendously. I first went in 2012 my senior year of high school because I loved music and thought it was cool, went and fell in love with the adventurous freedom more so than the music. Now every year I am the most excited for convincing new friends to come so that they can get a taste of something that was so important to me in my formative college years, and maybe something will stick with them too.
It's hard to say if I'm "settling" for the lineup because I end up going no matter who is on the lineup, and I get a lot of crap for it. Maybe people like me are the problem, but so could the "bros" who are there for the lineup, etc. I know I'm still young, but I don't even have to convince myself with nostalgia that it's worth it, it literally can be the nostalgia in and of itself that makes it worth it.

This isn't just a "I guess we're all getting older" thing. This lineup is a completely different approach to booking than they've done in the past. It's a "moneyball" lineup where they're digging in to data like stream counts and social media mentions to find artists that will appeal to a very specific demographic, and don't have to spend a lot of money to book them. This lineup is way more mainstream than they've ever had before, but it's all second-tier mainstream.
Good news for me though...no Tame Impala and Tyler the Creator conflict yayyyy!!!! I'm guessing Tyler will close out a tent, so there'll probably be some conflict with M83 and possibly LCD Soundsystem. Unless some of you guys are right and he gets an afternoon Which slot. But any of that is better than a Tame Impala/Tyler conflict. Now Bonnaroo all I ask is you give us a decent schedule....and don't make a million changes like last year
I like Big Grams but at the end of the day they only have 7 songs. Do they play Phantogram/Big Boi songs too? Or else you're looking at a 35 minute set, if that.
My friends went to their headlining NYC show a few months ago and said their set was less than an hour.
