Man that ‘16 undercard was ass. Also just realized that their highest billed hip-hop acts were Macklemore and J. Cole. Probably not the greatest formula.
Saturday 16 killed that year from being potentially strong. Had a really fun Friday and Sunday. Thursday was ok but a noticeable step down from the years prior.

that Saturday is the worst festival day I’ve ever experienced.
u.s. festivals in general suffer from noise curfews, bonnaroo not having proper names past 3am now is wack, the possibility of a proper sunrise set was what set bonnaroo apart from the other major fests for me. most people wont be staying up for that but it adds to the mystique of everyone going back home and knowing that a friend was throwing down that late, europe knows whats up.

Clutch > Lamb of God made it ok for me, and weirdly enough the rain delay was honestly a blast

Seconding Friday of '16 being easily the best day of that year. FIDLAR -> Kamasi Washington -> Vince Staples -> Leon Bridges -> Tyler -> M83 -> LCD -> Tame? Sign me up for that any year.

About two weeks before Bonnaroo that year I realized my wife and basically all my friends were going to be out of town that weekend, and there were super cheap last minute flights so why not go to Bonnaroo. But I kept staring at that terrible Saturday schedule (which was made worse by the rain) and I decided I’d rather sit around at home all weekend doing nothing.

me too.
i was so angry after that superjam. tried to find my post i made here afterwards when i was all pissed off but i can't remember what thread it was in. piss poor late night. it's the only bonnaroo day i've left and been upset.
i did enjoy myself on friday and sunday, but even on sunday i remember a large gap of time where i just sat around with nothing to do.
what was so bad about it? didn't rain move / shorten a bunch of sets?
hours of time with nothing I cared about + a headliner I didn't care about
Holy shit, this is bad. Not even gonna mention their terrible scheduling aswell. It's like watching 30 mins of something and then having to move for something else or having to wait for atleast 30 mins for the next acts..
I did chicano batman -> natalie prass -> steve gunn (which was empty and you could barely hear bc of sound bleed from 2 door cinema club. He seemed annoyed onstage about it too) - > nathaniel rateliff for a bit, and then rain delay/beer tent, claypool, pearl jam, and enough of the Superjam to be bewildered by how bad it was. The third eye blind dude singing Ring of Fire was the single worst live concert moment i've ever seen, I think. Overall I think Chicano Batman and Natalie Prass were the best shows I saw that day.

first couple of songs were mildly interesting, then Allen Stone came out for an excruciatingly lengthy rendition of "The Thrill Is Gone". That performance will go down as my second worst Bonnaroo memory ever, beaten only by the time in 2004 when my car got stuck in the mud in the pouring down rain while trying to leave Sunday night.
then when the guy from Third Eye Blind came out and did Ring of Fire. OK I shit you not, when i was in college we took a roadtrip to see our friend in Savannah. Day drank Jim Beam for several hours then we went to this karaoke bar and I did double jagermeister shots all night long. I was like some kind of miracle alcoholic android that night, the bartenders would all gather around every time I would order a budweiser and a double jagermeister shot and watch me take the shot down. later that night me and my comrades walked some crying stranger girl we found in the street back to her hotel, and then the hotel people didn't take to kindly to us so we stole this big pewter bowl of candy they had and ran away, then we threw the pewter bowl at some building and set off an alarm so we ran away from there too, ended up getting a room at the Thunderbird Inn because I was "tired of sleeping on the floor at fucking so-and-so's house this is bullshit i'm sleeping in a fucking bed", but when we checked into the inn at like 5am we just started screaming and throwing mattresses around before passing out, and I know we passed out but I also know there was a pounding at the door and we got kicked out. i don't remember exactly the order of events at the Thunderbird Inn.
backing up at that karaoke bar after the double jager shots I did "Ring of Fire" and straight killed that shit. Dude from Third Eye Blind was awful.
i left after that. maybe after i left justin timberlake came out and did "Dick In A Box" and I would hate to have missed that, but the first hour of the Superjam did not convince me to stick around.

Yupppppp. That's when the storm came through, right? Tbh wasn't even mad about it because of how lackluster the evening schedule was slated to be. From 9pm til sunrise, my mind was offffffffff in the ethers in a not that fun way (Rothric can attest to this), and I'm so so glad that was the night I had that experience, whilst Friday was in a perfect headspace for LCD into Late Night.
Also. 2016 Superjam. Can never be understated how truly awful that shit was.

Worst part was, even though I was painfully aware of how atrocious the Superjam was panning out to be, I couldn't muster the energy/wherewithal to, like, actually LEAVE--so am pretty sure I saw the whole thing. Or most of it. And I recall having multiple moments later in the night where I remembered the pain of the SJ, and it just kept coming back to me....traumatizing, tbh.
