Just FYI, if the indie/rock shows you want to see are in front of a big act on the same stage, there will be a huge crowd that won't care less about what's happening on stage.
This 1000x. Phoenix played before Beyonce on the main stage and we had things thrown at us and were given dirty looks by the people around us because we were standing up. We were probably 60ft from the stage and I'd say 1/4th of the crowd up there was sitting down during their set. Awful atmosphere to experience a show.
Was even stranger seeing The National play to a sea of Kanye West fans

I freaked out at the crowd during Metric last year, they were killing it really excited to be there and the crowd just wanted to be on bar for J Cole. I would not go back to this festival unless there was a major logistical change. I would love there to be a Rock stage, theres already an EDM stage. I wish that the day of the hip hop headliner, rocky stage was all hip hop, and the day or the rock headliner rocky stage was all rock, and then the liberty stage would be opposite of whatever the format for the main stage was. I feel like that would just be courteous to the artists.
he/they '12 - Firefly '13 - Firefly, Made In America '14 - Firefly, Made In America '15 - Mountain Jam (Sunday), Firefly, Pitchfork, Made In America '16 - Boston Calling, Firefly, Osheaga, Made In America, Roots Picnic NYC '17 - Boston Calling, Gov Ball, Firefly (Sunday), Pitchfork, Day For Night '18 - Boston Calling, Mountain Jam, Osheaga '19 - Form, Firefly (Sunday) '22 - Boston Calling, Firefly '24 - Solid Sound, Soundside

if you don't want to deal with hip hop fans don't go to a mostly hip hop festival

It's not that I don't want to deal with hip hop fans, I love hip hop and attend at least one hip hop festival a year, but I've been to festivals where the crowd even if they're not digging what's on stage will at least give the common courtesy to applaud for the act performing. Which does not happen at MIA. Normally I wouldn't want to segregate the music like that, but I feel like it's almost necessary at MIA.

I don't usually think it's a good idea for a festival to have different stages dedicated to one genre. You don't want people camping out at one stage literally all day, you want them moving around and more importantly spending money at vendors. Also festivals should be a place where you discover stuff you didn't know you'd be into. Having one genre per stage kind of defeats that. With that being said though, MIA schedules are usually pretty shit in my opinion. Like last year when they had Modest Mouse in between Meek Mill and Beyonce, and starting right as Death Cab For Cutie was ending.....that must have been horrible for any indie rock fan. I don't know why more festivals haven't adopted Bonnaroo's pit system. It's very helpful especially when you have people camped out for hours just to see the headliner.
What are the chances they do single day passes? If I could see car seat headrest, FKA Twigs and Jamie xx all on one day Id consider going
I'm pretty sure they did day passes last year but I might be wrong. I really hope they do them because I'd like to see Chance (and now FKA Twigs too) but I can only get off work for one day that weekend.

Yeah the fest sucks and the lineup is only okay, but its so close to me it'd be worth running in to catch a few good acts.

The schedule didn't come out until a few days before the festival. FWIW, the two biggest stages do not conflict so you get to see most of the big acts.

i'm more worried about missing some lower card acts to be honest. like kevin devine vs tchami would suck. also whats the deal with kodak black? is he in jail?
saw Coldplay Saturday in Philly and they were good, ill def stay to watch their set now even though i know they wont be able to match the production of a stadium show
Saw him at Bonnaroo last year and Gov Ball this year. I think hes amazing and In Colour was one of the best albums of the last year. His live show combines his own work, house, and soul. Not as downtempo as you would expect going in. Its alot of fun.
Sunday is dope. I'll be there if I don't work it. I have zero interest in anyone on Saturday since I've recently seen Grimes so this worked out perfect
