There have been the last couple of years. If they do again, we are probably going to do single days for whatever day Gorillaz play.
Nice, that's what I'm hoping to do too. Do those usually go on sale with 3 day tickets or later on?
I'm really not sure. We did 3-day tickets in 2014 and were so thoroughly unimpressed with the lineups for 2014 and 2015 that we didn't pay any attention to when they were released.
For those that have gone before, does the convenience and lower cost of staying downtown outweigh the experience of the strip? I've been to both, but only ever spent significant time and money on the strip.
Also, downtown hotel recommendations would be appreciated if that's the right play.

The year we went, they had shuttles from the strip (like behind the Linq) to downtown that ran pretty constantly, so it's probably not that much less convenient to stay on the strip if you don't mind paying for the shuttle. We actually parked at the Bellagio and then took the shuttle over because we were worried about the traffic downtown being a problem, but we won't do that again because now there's a charge for parking at the Bellagio.
I personally prefer downtown to the strip so I would find the convenience and lower cost to definitely be worth it, but I also just kind of hate the strip, so my personal preference is probably not a good guideline.

Honestly downtown hotels aren't going to be very cheap during this festival. The "nicest" hotels downtown are going to be Golden Nugget, The D, and The Grand.
There's certainly a lot more "experience" downtown than you may think if you've never done it before.
We hopped around a little bit downtown, but didn't give it the attention we gave the strip, that's for sure. I might just reserve a room downtown and figure everything else out later if we end up going that weekend. I do remember the locals saying that they much prefer hanging out there and avoid the strip at all cost.

Oh, yeah, I said lower cost would be worth it to me, but I have no idea about what any actual price difference would be in the hotels, and I'm sure all of the decent ones both downtown and on the strip will be inflated for the festival.
I would think the Plaza would be decent (quality-wise, no idea about price), but I've only been in the casino area, not in any of the rooms, so I don't really know.

I really recommend The Grand. Really beautiful brand new hotel/casino. It's one block off of Fremont, so you can take a 1min walk across the street to Fremont, join in on the party, then go back to your hotel whenever you want for some peace and quiet or a lesser packed casino. Also one of the absolute coolest bars in America is next door, Gold Spike.

Single day tickets have always gone on sale immediately after the single day lineups are announced, which is normally about a month before the festival.
Also, the Gorillaz will be headlining on Sunday, according to the Gorillaz's website.

I've gone all 4 years to this festival and have stayed downtown each of the past 3 years. You definitely won't have much time to experience the strip during the festival unless you plan on doing so during the day time before the fest starts each day. Festival runs from 2pm to 1am and most attendees normally barhop around all the downtown bars and restaurants after the final act each night. It's really a nonstop party. As far as hotel recommendations, they're all old and basic hotels. I've stayed at the Four Queens twice and the El Cortez once. This year, it's the Golden Nugget. To me, they all seem the same. Nothing fancy but you're just there to sleep and shower, right?

Really digging the lineup. Time to open up Spotify and start researching bands that I'm unfamiliar with.
It's crazy for me to think that having a mediocre lineup like last year actually had benefits. I was able to really take in everything else the festival had to offer during my down time inbetween sets I wanted to see. It's music first but I've encountered adults that attend solely for the learning/ideas series in the past (missed out on Bill Nye in 2015, not going to miss him this year!) and also attended an early day cooking demo from Iron Chef Cat Cora before as well.

If you're going to this stay downtown for sure! There's a decent amount of fun bars on East Fremont (Beauty Bar, Griffin, Downtown Cocktail Lounge). Golden Nugget is by far the nicest hotel downtown, the rooms are comparable to what you would find on the strip and their pool has a damn shark tank in it! If you want to try something cheaper the El Cortez Canaba Suites are shockingly nice, very retro (not the El Cortez main property, Cabana Suites is a separate property across the street, I believe it's technically within the festival grounds.
Downtown Grand and The D are also good options, Grand has a nicer pool and a couple good bars. For food def check out Red Sushi at Golden Nugget and Nacho Daddy right off Fremont.
So it sounds like its impossible to juggle both this and the strip in one weekend?
From what most people are saying, it seems like you don't need to and won't want to. I've been doing a little reading, and downtown casinos have lower table minimums and better odds if that at all matters to you

Yes lower table minimums is right up my alley haha
Also damn its taking forever to get through the purchase process.

There's really no need to visit the strip unless you've never been before and want to see the tourist traps. The character of downtown Vegas really lends itself to this fest quite well. You'll probably have more fun at the bars downtown with the fest crowd than you would with the California trust fund weekenders at the clubs on the strip.

Yeah pretty shocked that my ticket came to $366. Thats just barely cheaper than Coachella, which is twice as big, offers camping and is a more prestigious name.
Wow I can't believe it sold out so quickly. Is this the first year it sold out? and what's the capcity?
108,000.. Good for them hitting that Coachella, Lollapalooza level. Looks like they have actually been losing money the past few years too. So this is huge for them.
