I'm in with my girlfriend. It will be the third OBH for us. The Dominican location looks much better than the Mexico one. I will have to say that the initial OBH was awesome but the second one was a bit of a letdown other than MMJ and War on Drugs. The food and atmosphere really went downhill the second year. Hopefully they will start the Dominican one great.

I've heard good things about the Hard Rock in the Dominican, and I've researched some off-site excursions, too. It looks like there are some incredible beaches, catamaran excursions, etc. right at our fingertips. My wife and I are already planning on taking a fishing excursion the day after the fest. Via the reviews we've seen they'll clean our mahi and take them to a beachside restaurant to have cooked up for us with a huge meal. That sounds incredible. With it being freezing here in Ohio, I am sooooo looking forward to this trip now.
I'm extremely jealous of any of you who went to the NYE shows. Those setlists look pretty damn great.
They were AMAZING! The setlist from the first night is still giving me tingles and the second night just rocked so hard. NYE was great as well. I don't regret a minute or a dollar of that trip.
It's a lot easier/cheaper to fly into Cancun than punta Cana.
Agreed. I somehow lucked out and paid less for Punta than Cancun. I am headed down two days early. A pre-night at the Hard Rock and the night before that at an unknown location. I should really get on that unknown location plans. If you guy (or anyone else here) happen to want to go early and go in with something for me, please let me know!
Welcome back Bonz, but I do not find it strange that your presence being requested in the Orgy thread and then you showing up, like it was the quacking Bonzai Bat Signal.

I am a little spoiled, flights to Mexico from AZ are cheap. I think Mrs. Snowman and I it was ~$450 total RT for cancun. To Punta we are looking at like double that for each of us.
We are looking to go early and stay off site somewhere nearby, possibly stay a day after as well. We were wanting to try something a little more local and less resort-y. Plans are really tentative right now, as we are awaiting the MiL's schedule to finalize things.
If people find cool excursions post 'em up. I feel like the ones cloud9 offers are a bit overpriced. I also wonder if you can use the resort credits for excursions through the hotel. In years past we used the resort credits for massages and shiz, but I think an excursion would be a better way to use them.
Or mini-golf. We need an inforoo mini-golf tournament.

I want to say excursions are not included, but don't quote me on it.
The only thing I know, which seems pricey and I can't vouch for it is this: www.facebook.com/events/325629687933775/ It's an event within the private OBH 2018 group, so you might need to join the group to see the full info, but here's the main info
Together with one of my closest friends (who happens to be Dominican) I have come up with a custom, all-inclusive tour that is far and away the most amazing time that you can experience in one day while visiting Punta Cana. It will provide you with the most memorable experience that you will have during your time in the Dominican Republic. This will be our fourth year offering this tour around music festivals that take place in the Dominican and this tour is being offered exclusively to guests attending MMJ's One Big Holiday.
For those who haven't heard about this trip, I can start by explaining that one of my best friends in the world, Moises, is Dominican and lives in Santo Domingo. Moises is personal friends with all of the connections involved with this tour. It is not a well-known area and doing this trip on your own would be almost impossible as there are no tour companies in Punta Cana or Bavaro that offer this trip. There will be virtually no other tourists where we are going. However, the area is beginning to capitalize on a new road and will be covered in resorts within a few years.
Here’s the deal- The tour will take place Thursday, March 1 (the day before check-in). The day begins getting picked up at 8:00 am. We travel up the north shore to the village of Las Lisas and hop on a rugged open truck and drive it up to the top of Round Mountain, a 1,000 ft mountain that stands alone from the interior mountain range on the edge of the coast, overlooking the mouth of the Samana Bay and the Atlantic Ocean (the island of Hispaniola divides the Caribbean to the south and the Atlantic to the north). The views from our swings and hammocks on the top of our peak are amazing! I cannot oversell this, it is absolutely MIND BLOWING! After everyone has their fill of photo-ops and taking in the views, we head back down the mountain and thru a jungle road to our friend's ranch where we'll have an amazing spread of Dominican food for lunch. From there, we mount horses and ride thru a coconut grove to a postcard-worthy private beach. A short way down the beach, we hop off our horses at our own tiki bar where we hack open fresh coconuts and fill 'em with rum. Then it's a short walk on an elevated bamboo path thru a mangrove forest to a boat on a nationally protected, spring-fed lagoon. The boat will take us a mile or two up the lagoon to where it empties out to sea, where we can swim at our leisure on the most beautiful part of our beach. Our horses will have come up the beach on their own to meet us and we’ll ride them back down the beach to the ranch where coffee, fresh fruit, and dessert will be waiting for us before heading back by dusk.
The cost of both tours will include everything that I've just described as well as beer. We will provide stocked coolers of Presidente Cerveza. We ask that you maintain and please don't get so drunk that you fall off your horse.
You will need to arrive in the Dominican by February 28 and have lodging booked for that night to be able to join us for the tour. We have to start early on the 1st to reach our destination and fit all of the activities in. You will not be able to join us once the tour has left
We have a central meeting point for pick-up at a bar in Bavaro called Liqui2 (Liquid, but the d is a 2 and the locals pronounce it “leaky-dos”) If you are staying early days in Bavaro, I can almost guarantee you will be staying very close to this spot. If you are staying elsewhere, logistics can be arranged. I will provide lodging recommendations as well.
The price is $200 per person and $100 must be paid as a deposit to secure your spot and the remaining $100 may be paid day of. Deposits are necessary to cover flat rate transportation, fuel, beer and reservation costs. Of course, you can pay the full amount up front as well if you choose.
So, who's down to have their "Best Day Ever!?!?!" I can tell you that with the construction of a new road, this part of the island will be transformed by new resorts soon. So, if you choose to take advantage of our tour this year, you can still see this area of pure natural beauty before it becomes totally commercialized by the tourist industry. Please send me a DM with your email address if you are interested and please tag your friends that might be interested as well or please add them to this group. I will also be creating an event page for those who would like to join us, that will work as a message board, where I will provide information on where you should stay and what to bring, as well as answer any and all questions that you may have.
Thanks! Hope to see you there!
This one is harder to plan for because there aren't as many DR vets with suggestions.
If you guys go two days earlier, you should consider a third wheel
But yeah, I think my direct flight to Cancun last year was like 600 bucks (from first day to two days after), and I paid like 480 for this (one-stop), so I am feeling good about it.
Welcome back Bonz, but I do not find it strange that your presence being requested in the Orgy thread and then you showing up, like it was the quacking Bonzai Bat Signal.
We are getting in a day early if anyone wants to do something. We’re also staying a day late. And we used our resort credits one year in Mexico to lesson a day-after excursion. It cut a little off the overall price, but it wasn’t an enormous savings by any means. Last year we ended up just renting a cab to go into Playa one day to shop, eat and hang at a beach front bar. We did that on the morning and early afternoon of the first full day of the fest. We left as people were lining up for merch. What a huuuuge line. Then, the day after the fest we rented another cab and went down the road and swam with sea turtles. Both were pretty cheap adventures. This time around it looks like the resort is offering some non-fest excursions, like a catamaran and party boat tour, for people who say early and late. I’ve also researched, and it looks like there are some great beaches a short cab ride away. Some offer boogie boarding, surfing and surfing classes. We should try a board meet up this year. ...

That tour sounds pretty amazing. I'm just curious about who is hosting/planning/etc. But traveling to the top of that mountain sounds like a worthwhile endeavor.
You're definitely welcome to be a third wheel! The wife was trying to convince some of our friends to go on the journey so we would have a larger group of people outside the resort ( i don't think DR is that dangerous; she is a worrier.) Let us know your lodging plans as well, we are trying to nail all our plans down pretty soon.

I spent some time on air bnb this morning. I'll probably book one soon. I'm contemplating some in Playa Bavaro. There are three budget rooms (as opposed to private apartments or houses) in this one woman's apartment that look appealing. Very cheap (like 30-45 bucks including service and cleaning), and I kind of like the idea of staying with a person since I'll be alone. Only a few minutes walk to the beach and downtown, and all the reviews say she's super nice and will take you out with her and her friends if you're looking for company.
I can't speak for the host of that tour but he is in the fan club group, you could definitely reach out to him on Facebook.
Welcome back Bonz, but I do not find it strange that your presence being requested in the Orgy thread and then you showing up, like it was the quacking Bonzai Bat Signal.

what's the info on that air bnb?
I dunno if I wanna do that whole tour, but going to the top of amountain would be cool. I'd be okay seeing more inland/town/etc type stuff since I can spend the resort time at the beach.

They're nothing nice, but since I am only looking for one night I truly just need a place to crash in a reasonable location.

Hey Guys- I've been dreaming about this festival since I saw the lineup. Was scared off by the expense but after seeing so many other lineups drop, this seems even more heavenly to me. They posted today that only 8 more suites are available and they're some of the pricier options. If anyone knows of someone selling their spots, please let me know or direct me to the place where I can keep an eye out for availability. I haven't seen mention of J Roddy on this thread but he is one of my all time favorite artists. From top to bottom, this is a perfect lineup for my taste!

MMJ Facebook fan group has people selling them left and right for under what they paid
Yeah, I've been seeing a lot of people post about it the past few days. I'm currently planning to ignore it and hope for the best. One of the stages is on the beach. There's no way I can wear shoes and dance in the sand.

I also saw people talking about it on the OBH Facebook group. I did some research, and it doesn't seem like it's overly pervasive down there right now. If it was, there would be more stories or a travel advisory. There's another story making the rounds where a couple took a cruise and got it on their behinds after spending part of a day at a beach in Martinique. It's just random bad luck - and hopefully the only thing all of us come down with is a hangover and sore feet after too much dancing and drinking!

My favorite band of all time doing the absolute unimaginable, and i'm missing it. Complete drag. Lots of people have been down on MMJ lately, uninspired setlists.. similar shows night in and night out over the past few years etc. To say the boys heard the call and answered is an understatement.
Needless to say I wish I chose OBH this year and not Mad Cool fest in Spain. Completely heartbroken I'm missing whats going on in Cancun right now.
Imagine the stampede if they’d announced they were doing this when tix went on sale? And if they have a OBH next year (assuming no new music released in the meantime) what do they play?
