Yeah, I'm pretty sure they got Bassnectar. I'm glad I bought my iii points tix instead of waiting for this. The lineup has to be out soon, Fest released their lineup last week
I think they got Bassnectar, or at least are seriously considering booking him in the future. Paul was staunchly defending the idea of Bassnectar playing at Hula on Reddit
Some direct quotes, all in direct response to criticism of the idea of booking bassnectar: "To say that Hula doesn't need his energy or like his fanbas is a pretty broad statement and clearly just a personal opinion. It does not reflect the feelings of the promoters in any way." "I've been in the crowd at several Bassnectar shows and tons of festivals over the last 35 years. I live in the Music Park. I think I have a sense for vibe and what will work at Suwannee. I say that Suwannee family won't allow any group of fans to kill a vibe. I appreciate your support and look forward to having a conversation one day, should we ever go there. Also, part of the reason for a no line-up presale could be to hedge the bets on something like this. I think Hula 2017 will be our best yet."
I stalked Paul's post history and saw the same thing, I think you are right and it means Bassnectar will be there.
Hoping not as well, the generic wubs are boring from him, and his crowd isn't the vibe I wanna roll with. Hoping the fact that he's been at Okee two years straight will deter them...
It won't deter them. It also could mean a Voodoo appearance which I would be perfectly okay with seeing if it's opposed to a chump headliner like 21P, Frank Ocean or whatever.

I wouldn't call Bassnectar's wubs "generic", but to each their own. I'd actually love to see him, to a point it would be a selling point for me to go to the festival this year. But I get people not being into it. While most of his fans are typical happy fun-loving festival types, he has a core group of obnoxious rail riding fans who generally give his fans a bad name.
My Bassnectar experience: It was on the playa in Black Rock City. We went to the sound camp at 11:00 to check out this guy playing. We waited, we waited, and we waited. Finally, Lorin got on the mic and asked if anybody had a blah, blah, blah sound card or some kind of DJ equipment. I have no idea what he was asking for, but he mentioned the playa dust had fried his and without it, he could not perform. We left and checked out the live funk band at 9:00.
So Paul, say NO to Bassnectar, give us a real band!! Like Tool.
Bassnectar shows used to be unique (for people who tour the US) but he has become so watered down since like 2011-20122 and that core, shitty fanbase that ride the rail (and his dick) at every show/fest he plays that it really makes him a HUGE disappointment on a lineup. Bassnectar was great live until some point in 2012
Bassnectar doesn't sway me away from a fest, Bassnectar fans sway me away from a fest. He's just become a safety net for fests to make sure they sell enough tickets from "the die-hard bassheads".
Reddit is saying rl grime. Is that good? Between that and Chet faked really hoping for some Dead type acts.
It's better than a lot of possibilities for sure. I've seen him 4 or 5 times, but I haven't seen him in a couple of years. As long as he hasn't sold out to chump pop EDM, it will probably be a cool Rage show.
I wouldnt be surprised to see some flyers/posters at Suwannee this weekend for Purple Hatters Ball. With Voodoo announcing next Tuesday, it'd make perfect sense to "leak" the lineup this weekend with an official announce early next week. Then again, this week is far from over with.

Really Hoping they haven't waited to release the lineup for....Bassnectar. I mean, it seems like they've been fairly consistent with booking the past few years at Hula. Bassnectar can't be considered that big of a "get" for a festival like this anymore, right? He plays everywhere.

Yeah, I think he is and particularly Florida. It will probably sell out with him also on the card, as he could bring anywhere from 2 to 5 thousand or more tickets with his rabid fanbase. I will reserve judgment on how big of a get he is. But he will move additional tickets, and it's not like he sucks.

Fair enough, I just think they could get a little more creative with the booking. No doubt there could be worse acts in that spot.
He killed it at Shaky Knees so I'm stoked to see what he does at Hula, it also leads me to believe they're going to go very indie for this years line up.
Welcome back Bonz, but I do not find it strange that your presence being requested in the Orgy thread and then you showing up, like it was the quacking Bonzai Bat Signal.
Blows my mind that people mark out over that played out shit. That shit was played out in my book before the scene got invaded by millennial kids.
Playing devil's advocate here (not fan-boying), but I don't think he ever does the same show twice. A lot of DJ's just do a pre-programmed show, but I think he mixes live a lot of the time and tailors the specific shows <--- at least that's what I have heard. When I was walking through the crowd at the 12:30am Waka 2014 show on the way to Umphrey's McGee, he was doing a 3-4 minute Sigur Ros montage that was pretty great.
Granted, I've had mixed experiences at Bassnectar shows from jamming down (Euphoria 2016) to falling asleep watching (Bonnaroo 2015) to leaving to see Slightly Stoopid (Hangout 2013) to hanging around headbobbing (Buku 2014). I don't feel like it ever sucks per se, and I don't think he's playing that much old stuff.

I thought he did NOT kill it at Shaky.
For someone into tool, I could see how Nick Murphy may not be your thing.
