No. It was an inadvertent Lock'n hijack. I'll probably never go to Hula because Im not going to miss Voodoo. I'll watch a ton of it on YouTube after the fact though. So I want just as good of a lineup as everyone who is going.
You should try it out. It was my favorite camping fest experience in awhile.
I'm anxious to see this lineup. May have to choose between Hula and Sound On Sound. It's going to be weird camping for an indie fest if I pick SoS, but I'm always down for new experiences.
I would, but I'm not ever leaving town for Voodoo. Same goes for Jazz Fest weekends. There's too much shit for me to get into, and both are walking distance from where I live. I had a good time at Spirit of Suwanee when we went for Bear Creek 14. And I love watching sets from Hula, Purple Hatters, Aura and Hulaween. And I always said I'd go if they split weekends. So if it ever happens where one is the weekend before the other, I'd be down to burn that candle pretty low. \m/

Very nice! Definitely looking to my make 2nd appearance with this lineup. Hopefully Barclay Crenshaw gets added with CVS on the lineup; he was one of my favorite shows at Roo.
Goddamnit this is so much better for me than Voodoo.
You ought to go. You already knew what the lineup was pretty much going to be all along. And you like some jam. To me, there' way more stuff overall I would want to see at Hulaween. But as usual, most of the lineup is the same shows I see all year long plus so many times over for so many of the higher rated acts (Cheese x4, Bassnectar x4, GRiZ x10, RTJ x4, Portugal x5, RL Grime x4, Claude VS x5, Vince Staples x2 (will be great regardless), Greensky x2, Lettuce x15, Beats x5, etc. The only people I haven't seen live (counting streams for this sentence) in the Top 9 rows are Nick Murphy, Russo Duo, FJK and Here Come the Mummies. This is actually the one festival that I know and love a bunch of the undercard. That's usually pretty assured with what they're doing.

I'd be genuinely stoked to see SCI, Bassnectar, Ween, RTJ, Bisco, CVS, Shiba San, and Tauk, and there are numerous other artists on the lineup I'd be pretty interested in seeing as well. And when considering hotel costs it'd be a lot cheaper than Voodoo too.
The problem is my commitment to Houston friends and my wife to attend Voodoo. I can't squirm out of that without being a dick. And it's a commitment I'm locked into for life now.
This is why it's important to keep friends and live music separate.
I'll probably have to make do with my 2 nights of SCI @ Chastain, but it's a solid lineup. If the Nectar slot was MMJesque, or MMJ!, I'd probably be thinking about it harder.
Haha for sure. I don't think there's really much of a comparison between the two festivals beyond the subjective. For instance, they can be compared based on people's opinions of the artists (in that scenario you and I would tilt Hula because we like Jam). But they really aren't anything alike. Hulaween is similar to some of Electric Forest, Camp Bisco and Summer Camp. But outside of it being on the same weekend, it's otherwise only complimentary with and to Voodoo.

Yeah they share a 2-3 artists every year but the fests are directed at different demos. As a jam and electronic guy Hulaween is better for me 90% of the time, as we see me bitch year over year about "having" to go to Voodoo instead of Hulaween.
But the truth is I should just be grateful I have friends and a wife that want to hang out with me in New Orleans and rage to some tunes. There are way worse problems to have.

Dude. You go to Hangout Fest still.
?
not following?...two completely different things. I think this Hula is as good as the other 2 I've attended. I'm just not feeling like I have to do it this year.

The way you put it seemed confusing, because I know you go down to Live Oak periodically for different festivals. It seemed odd that that one act would have made that much of a difference in a lineup that is in every way superior to what Hangout is doing now. I guess the assumption would be that you don't necessarily go to Hangout Fest because of the lineups but deal with them and make the best of it.
