Quick takes on the weekend:
-Phoenix is sneaky good and their music translates (pun definitely intended) far better live -There are few festival moments as memorable as LCD's "All My Friend's". Not many songs have a buildup like that. -Came away a little disappointed with The XX. Kind of wish they had different male lead vocals and/or let Jamie XX hijack the show. -Still not a huge fan of music by Cage, but there are few better performers. -I hate that I love the first two Third Eye Blind albums so much because Stephen Jenkins sounds like a baby seal caught in the plastic rings of a six-pack of Pabst Blue Ribbon -Was pleasantly surprised with how Sylvan Esso translated live. Pretty impressive for a two-person show. -Cool moment when the Arkells invited a random fan up to play guitar for a song, but they haven't reached Radiohead and Oasis status to skip playing their top single (looking at you too Saint Motel) -Portugal. should never be forced to play before sunset -Wolf Parade, Catfish, Rainbow Kitten Surprise all did the animal kingdom proud.
Overall another great weekend of music. Shaky Knees is probably the only festival that has achieved blind buy status for me.

Logistics were so good. I just walked out my hotel and was in the fest in 5 min. Reentry allowed 3x so if there was downtime could come back and shower, drink, whatever. Not that I would, but an option. Bags were searched, technically. Short of a bazooka you could bring anything you wanted into this thing. I am not saying flasks. I am saying you could get a handle in if you wanted. 3 stages and would could get to any of them in 5 min if you walked with purpose. A bit of sound bleed between 2 of the stages unless you were up on the stage – which I almost always was. 30 min max between each stages set times. So if you were waiting at stage for a fav the wait was not at all bad. Firefly is like an hour plus between main stage set times and waiting if painful. This was nothing. Loved it so much
Weather was so good. Despite weather prediction to the contrary the rain held all weekend. For 5 min during Shovels and Rope’s Birmingham I had on a poncho. That’s it. The clouds the first 2 days prevented a lot of sunburn Day 3 was all sun all day.
Kings of Leon pre-show was great. Much better live band than I remember from the 1 short time I saw them before.
Crowds were there late in the day. Before 4;00 you could get up on anything you wanted with no effort at all. If you wanted to be close to the rail for anything including headliners there is no reason that you couldn’t if you were willing to be there 2 acts ahead of time. Cage into LCD was the only clusterf and even that wasn’t horrible if you planned it right
I thought the music was amazing
Best discoveries - The Record Company. 1:00 on Saturday and this was my fav set of the fest. I will be seeing them again. Many times - Anderson East – I wont be going to see them but I don’t know why. Amazing voice over top of horns and the organ - legit talent and some fun songs - The Revivalist – Only caught the last 25 min cause Shovels and Rope – but dear lord I will need to see a full set at some point - Ryan Adams was better than I had even hoped
Best moments - Last 5 songs of LCD – Call the Police was amazing and All my Friends was everything I wanted it to be - Singer from Cage jumping on my head during Teeth - About 3 dif times during Dr Dog – oh def the highest crowd of the fest - The Revivalist with an on point Hey Jude and the crowd rising to the occasion - The Record Company first song and the dude owning the stage with just a mic and a harmonica - FIDLAR covering Weezer Sweeter Song - Bleachers - dealing with early sound issues nicely and then I Wanna Get Better to close, my second fav song of the fest
Slightly disappointed - Shovels and Rope – just cause their 2 person act is much better in a club or small stage. I love em but it doesn’t quite work as well on a vast stage - Cage crowd for not being more nuts. Usually all hell breaks loose at Cage, not this time.
Best looking crowd - The XX. Hair done, tons of glitter, actual wardrobe thought, recently showered
Worst looking crowd - FIDLAR – like the XX except the complete opposite. Oh BTW – shout out to the FIDLAR crowd, you are my people
I give this thing like a 9.8 out of 10. Loved everything. Would have preferred a non XX//Phoenix headliner. Other than that, I thought it was great.
I am so jealous of you all who got to go... I am loving the posted videos on Instagram/FB. Maybe I can make it next year. I had a work conflict this year.

I love this festival. It comes at almost my busiest time of the year and Mother's Day weekend, so I usually only to get to go one day. Went Friday and had a blast. Always wish I could have hung out with some of you guys a little more, but nice seeing those of you that I did.
Shows I saw in order from favorite to still pretty good:
LCD Soundsystem Temples Pinegrove Pixies Lo Moon Car Seat Headrest Wolf Parade Portugal. The Man Preoccupations (I like them on record, but I didn't think the vocals sounded good live.)
LCD - Sooo much better than I expected. PtM - They win me over every time. Amythyst Kiah - Had me and the wife completely sucked in. Pixies - MFPixies Mariachi el Bronx - Fun and great musicians. Growlers - SoCal sounds RKS - very similar energy to Revivalists Shins - Shins Ryan Adams - much more lively than the last time I saw him...good entertainer.
...enjoyed many more as well. great weekend...oh, and chilled with Chase at the Fruit Bats.

LCD Phoenix Sylvan Esso Ron Gallo Hamilton Leithauser Twin Peaks The xx Whitney Margaret Glaspy Car Seat Headrest
Hate to miss Pond but we got way super close for Phoenix and it was totally worth it.
Yet another great Shaky Knees in the books! The weather was perfect, extremely well organized, food was great, production was awesome. So glad to see those of you that I did.
Some culinary highlights: We found a bar selling bloody marys on Sunday and it made the day. Fox Bros literally healed me on Saturday afternoon. I crushed a steak bento bowl while watching Hoops and it was incredible. Got to eat a Thai iced tea popsicle while singing along to Whitney and it was perfect. I had looked forward to that moment for months.

Never been this exhausted after Shaky before. I drove from Marietta every day, went to late nights Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, and entered the festival at around 1 each day. I have a few weeks until my summer classes start (yay first-year junior at engineering school), and I'll be working on my scale model of COP in minecraft for sure. Will keep you guys updated.
Oh and I forgot Slowdive in my top 10. They should definitely be there.
Random observation- I wore a Bonnaroo shirt all three days of the festival (because I enjoy the random high fives) so I ended up having A LOT of conversations about Bonnaroo. Every person I talked to except one said that they didn't like the lineup this year and weren't going. The one person that was excited had never been to Bonnaroo before and was really excited to see Matoma and U2. So this tells me that not just inforoo but regular festival attendees are not happy with what Bonnaroo has become. I think this year we're going to see a lot less Bonnaroo veterans and more younger people going for the first time.
