Anybody doing Beach House instead of Lorde? I'm considering it since Lorde will be everywhere for the next 2 years or so, and I don't see Beach House pop up on many lineups. I don't know a thing about BH though. Thinking about going in blind and seeing what's up
Definitely a great idea. If you do decide to jump into them before you see them, I highly recommend starting with "Teen Dream"
Bloom is great too. I would suggest splitting sets though. As much as I love Beach House I can only listen to dream pop for about 30 minutes before I get bored

I'm a big fan of Beach House. They are somewhat mellow so expect that going in. But they have some beautiful melodies and put on a fine show if you're down to chill out a bit (I'm being serious this time fyi).
edit: songs of interest - space song, 10:37, and ppp were some of my favorites on this last record. Zebra is a fan favorite but they haven't played it on this tour to my understanding.

I'm doing Lorde. I've been scheduled to see Beach House multiple times and yet have only caught them twice (opening for Vampire Weekend at Radio City in 2010 and at Webster Hall last year). Was planning to see them at Summerstage in 2012 but opted to go see The Killers play WH that night instead and then gave up during that miserable Fri of Gov Ball in 2013 and left before they went on (though found out they only played 4 songs anyways).
I like them on record but the live show isn't anything spectacular unless you're specifically in that mood. In terms of where to start, I think anything from Teen Dream-onwards is fine. The first two are a little rougher and have them finding their voice.

I mean, you should see Beach House because they're way better than Lorde, and because their live show is so much better than you'd expect. I saw them twice last year and both sets were tremendous.
That said, if you're interested in Lorde, it's not as if Beach House is always that tough to catch. Just last year, they played Coachella, Pitchfork, Outside Lands, Pickathon, Eaux Claires, FYF, Hopscotch, Sound on Sound, plus dozens of their own dates. They tour regularly and tend to wind up on fest lineups so it's not like Gov Ball is your only chance.
I think the point is more they seem to be winding down the cycle behind Depression Cherry/Thank Your Lucky Stars whereas Lorde is just beginning. That being said, Lorde is now in the big leagues so I think, for the area, will likely be this + an arena date in the fall/winter and done unless the album has real legs (which I can't really tell at this point).

You couldn't pay me to watch Lorde, and I love Beach House

Fuck... So I land at Laguardia at 10:30am and I'm heading direct to the festival. I'm bringing a small carry on backpack with a bit of clothes. I'm not even staying the night, just getting a train direct to Philly. I don't know what I'll do if they won't let me bring that bag in. I even have a locker rented.

Don't head directly to the fest. Drop the bag at your hotel, or rent a locker at Penn or some other place.
Last year I brought my GoPro but I see online that audio/video recording devices are not allowed. Is this new? Will I be able to bring mine again? I want to record Gambino and Chance just in case Kanye comes out (I'm aware I'm an idiot for thinking this could happen. Let me dream)

I'm definitely seeing Lorde. Pure Heroine is a great album. When it first came out I remember it being considered more of a indie-alt-pop then straight pop. I don't want to be the guy who stops listening to someone just cause "they went mainstream". Plus the set looked fun at Coachella.
Wow that no bag thing is bullshit. I always bring a bag to City festivals because there's no campsite to go back to
Edit : I get that is security precautions, but honestly, it's not like they don't search bags to begin with... Are they really worried about overlooking a bomb in a fucking backpack?

Just bring one of those drawstring gym bags or something. They just care that it's easily searchable

Yeah I didn't think about those. I have one of those hippy bags from bonnaroo too, should be small enough to count as personal. I usually bring a poncho, blanket, sun spray, water bottle wet wipes, etc for these things, plus there's always someone with me that wants to not carry shit. Also I like to get a poster or merch.
Looks preeeeettttyy much the same as the two years. Instead of opening with Third Eye, they're pushing it to the end. Can't believe they haven't brought out Lateralus at all in the last three years. Still only 'new' track is Descending - but it was only basically an instrumental every time they played it - do they have lyrics now? Probably not. Saving the new album for 2020 I guess.
Tracks I wish they'd play live: Undertow, Eulogy (which would be fitting for our times now), Pushit, The Pot (probably really difficult on Maynard's voice these days).
Lost Keys/Rosetta Stoned would be great too, but it's probably too tiresome for Danny Carey.
Danny Carey is still in great shape. I think if he can do his solo and the extended Opiate and all of that stuff then he can do pretty much whatever. I wouldn't expect them to deviate much from their setlists on this tour, though.

Yeah don't think they'll deviate either. I read somewhere that Rosetta Stoned is the hardest song for Danny to play, which is why I commented that.
