Some rather uninspired bookings last year and it seems to be the consensus that this year will follow that path. Rather unfortunate. Roo has the bankroll and the cache, why waste it? There is some really solid eletronic music out there, would be nice to see Roo hold the line on quality.
Justice would be nice, the new album is super disco but it grows on you. Massive Attack, great live, deep catalog. Leftfield, one of two bands would camp out for 4 days just to see Portishead, the other band I would camp out for 4 days just to see. Buriel, what a fucking get and some 3/5 done right spekta - the kids like grime these days Chase & status - sick live drum and bass. Doc Martin / Danny T, someone who is use to playing a marathon set, playing well well into the morning. If you have to do dick cheese electro house... just book someone huge and get it over with. Why book 5-6 b level guys in the genres du jour, book 2 solid A guys and call it a day. Leave spots open for other better music. I can't imagine the cocksmokers crowd is making the difference. Do people that love easy to digest music really invest 4 long hot ass days to see it?
the fact of the matter is none of the acts you are talking about have even 1/4 of the draw of Skrillex or Major Lazer etc.

Bonnaroo absolutely does not have the "cache" to book Burial for his first ever live performance, you fucking derelict.
Agree to disagree. Lala, Coachella, and Roo all have the scale cash and history to justify it. The niche electronic festival in The Las Vegas desart that did leftfield last year would be a better fit but lesser capitalized festivals would be risky.
To the other point, yes, ML have a great draw as does nearly anything skirllex and diplo do, which is why I suggested booking someone of that scale for those genres. Booking B be c level trapstep / trap / dupstep and then b and c level electro house is pretty boring. Underworld didn't have the draw of major laser for Coachella but the tent was full (all be it not packed) and the quality of music was memorable. The fact that that type of high quality legend level booking is lacking is the shame. Booking large draw talent opens up opportunity to book special movement defining talent. I could have gone to either festival last year, I went to Coachella becuase of despacio, underworld and Gogo penguin. There wasn't anything that exciting to me on the roo lineup last year.
Are we going to leave the vitriol in the other tread and act like adults, talk about music and generally get along?
Nope. You've squandered any goodwill. Plus now you're just posting a different kind of obnoxious haughty bullshit.
Electronic music has been a passion for over half of my life. I still get to events as much as I can and collect vinyl passionately. I enjoy talking about it, seeking our new artists and directing parts of it. If you can't let political discourse exist on its own and discuss the core purpose of the forum like adults, then I'm sorry and I wish you the best.
On topic, Roo has always held a mythical aura. It's distinctly better in a lot of ways than Coachella or lalapalooza. It was clear to me before I ever went and it hit me personally about half way through Brandi Carliles set 2 years ago. Special things happen there. So for me personally burial doing his first ever live PA (now that the music has a face) seems like a great option. The niche based festivals like further future would obviously be a great fit, but I suppose the risk there is, does a less stable festival risk not happening or not being able to pull off the end product. While zhu is far less epic of a get, it looked great and was well done at Coachella. Same sort of, let the music speak for itself mythos (though to a much lesser degree). That booking alone (burial) at roo would bring me out and probably a lot (let's be real there are less of us than other groups) of older electronic music fans, especially if it was exclusive.

What's interesting is you prefer Bonnaroo because of magic or whatever, when Coachella actually books the kinds of acts on your wishlist.
Edit: though spekta got held up at customs this year

Agreed.
Coachellas benefits for me personally is that their lineups include a lot of acts in that genre, though no real issue for me as I listen to everything. Roo books some great acts in other genres. They did bring in some acts for 2016 in the electronic genre and thought that their curation there didn't match the great curation they have in other genres.

#vibez Roo has all the vibez. Check that- mythical vibez.
Thank you, I needed a laugh today.
A guy I know robert talked about roo as if were shangrila (sp) Talking about the Radiohead set as if it were a moment in time. I dont care about vibez. Great music creates the experience.

You just talked about some mythical aura that Coach and Lolla don't have. You care about vibez if you make that statement.

During the middle of Brandi carliles set something hit me, that validated the type of things I heard form Robert. Sets at roo are special. I chalked it up to that you really have to work to get to and live at roo. I feel like that makes for better crowds and less mailing it in.
Coachella is like a vacation for me. All festivals are a struggle to some extent but nice hotels and room service and shuttle busses make it less of a conquest (for me personally). I've seen great sets at every festival. The best sets I've seen by artists I've seen a few times, were at roo. Before I went to roo, people told me that same thing, for example that Radiohead was good but their too set was special. So in that mindset if burial would ever happen (a long shot for sure) wouldn't too be a great place if something about it brings out the best in crowds and artists.
Considering you've found the need to respond to my threads as if you are threatened by me I offer you some peace my confused counterpart. May you find peace in your restless soul.
sin has promised to take a break from the political thread and contribute positively to the community. So let's give him the benefit of the doubt and keep it positive.
And as always, thank you from the Mod that is sicker than a dog.

You're looking for the Coachella thread
Have been to both. Tried to make sure my recommendations would play well for the environment. The reason I left off acts that only work on the Yuma or for a Coachella crowd. Last year there was what felt like a larger than usual number of electronic artist at Roo. A lot of it in the trap / dupstep / or electro house (big room) genres. Frankly a lot of it was weak.
Massive Attack, Portishead and Leftfield and even chase & status are full stage acts. All of which would fit right in and be much better examples for electronic based music than adventure club, the chain smokers or Flosstradamas.
Skepta is a rather traditional hip hop set up. The sounds are more in line with the trap / trap step / grime that was there last year but in my humble opinion much more worthy of shine.
I agree Doc or Danny T feel off. Danny T more so than Doc, I've seen Doc play an outdoor set and its tribal and transcendent. 6 hours that goes by like 30 minutes and a treat for the body and soul.
Burial, no one knows, it's never been done. It seems like it's more possible than ever because he's been slightly less reclusive. If it happened, and it was exclusive, you would see people from all over the US (if not the world) show up just for that. (Me included) it's possible that he can't bring the studio work to the stage in a way that would be anymore exciting than hanging out in a RadioShack, which frankly had long been a drawback of electronic music. Which has unfortunately brought on a group of guys who stand on the decks with their hands in the air.
My general point is that bonnaroo has to me always been a festival that brought quality. Less of the "who the fuck did those guys blow" lineup slots and really great music. Historically less of the electronic stuff, and last year when there was more of it, it didn't match the same quality focus that I associated with the festival. It was festival fodder, popDM for the most part with some solid undercard acts. I love electronic music more than most and there wasn't a single act on the roster that made me have to go (in that genre). Glad they diversified the lineup, hope they rethink their pics.

That'd be a lot better than last year at least.
I don't know Gorgon City but this seems really realistic
