1. Adventure Club - I was rolling 2. Zeds Dead - I was rolling 3. Chainsmokers - I was rolling 4. RL Grime - I was rolling
5. Chris Stapleton - Kicking off the night with the gritty “Nobody To Blame,” the night was off and running. The crowd was singing along with the lyrics from the opening bars – continuing throughout the night. He then segued into the moving title cut with the relative ease of someone who has been in the spotlight for many years. The vocal power and bluesy bravado, already in place, came to light even more on “Fire Away,” which featured his wife Morgane on harmony vocals, prompting the crowd to rise to their collective feet for the first of several standing ovations. The crowd reaction moved the couple greatly, inspiring her to say “Y’all going to have to quit doing that. I’m going to have mascara running down my face all night.”
He then turned up the tempo with a rowdy version of Rodney Crowell’s “Ain’t Living Long Like This,” a huge 1980 hit for Waylon Jennings. Then, he turned on a dime, and gathered his ace band – highlighted by producer Dave Cobb and longtime Jennings steel player Robby Turner – around the mic for a sobering version of “Daddy Doesn’t Pray Anymore.”
Honestly, there was nothing on the stage that wasn’t a highlight. He gave a gripping version of “The Devil Names Music” – a song about sacrifice on the stage that many have given it all on which to perform, and shared the spotlight with Morgane again on “You Are My Sunshine,” which is included on Cobb’s upcoming Southern Family. Her voice is so emotional and riveting, that she could have very well garnered a Female Vocalist of the Year trophy by popular vote at The Ryman.
The night progressed to the apex with “Tennessee Whiskey,” which starred with Stapleton singing the band intros – a novel approach that worked well with the crowd, and closing out the night with “Outlaw State Of Mind.”
1. Leon bridges - his brief cameo with Nathaniel rateliff puts him over the top 2. Lettuce - the unofficial house band of bonnaroo does it again 3. Grace potter - love the prince tribute, and loved the outfit 4. Nathaniel rateliff & the night sweats - great show, and he was very gracious of the fans support 5. Bluegrass superjam - would probably be at the top if it didn't suffer from sound issues yet again. Give them more than 45 minutes to set up or something, because it's too good to keep fucking up
Hm:sam bush, the dead, the record company, chvches, big grams (15 minutes longer and it would be top 5), all 3 shows featuring Kamasi washington
Overall, all 22 shows I caught were enjoyable. Boy & bear was good, but I should have gone with my gut and hit up Charles Bradley instead
Shuck was more in the front than I was; when the set ended he turned around and almost literally walked into me. But yeah somewhat on the middle-right side, pretty close.
it's embarrassing how few shows i actually saw this year, mostly due to staying at camp being more enjoyable that boiling my body in the fields.
lcd soundsystem - i was in the pit with some of my favorite people, and danced until all of my bones hurt, then danced some more. thanks to Dave Maynar for the moral support when i thought i would lose my mind over grown men basically re-enacting bring it on. it's a wonderful movie. don't recreate it and expect me to catch your fall. lizzo - she was incredible. like any time i've seen beyonce, i left her set feeling sexy and empowered. i was so happy to see her and the dancers going hard the entire time. leon bridges - he was my sister's number one for the weekend, so we were on the rail. his voice and his moves were perfect, and i can't wait to see him again at osheaga. i think the crowd collective lost our minds when "pony" started. it was so unexpected, and a really fun surprise. miguel - duh. his first set (and chance!), the pop-up disco ball set, and his justin timberlake during the superjam. i can't get enough of this man. vulfpeck - SO FUN. that's all.
hm: kamasi is so unbelievably talented, but i was getting crushed on the rail (why?!) so i watched the second half with a pizza in the shade outside the tent. allen stone always makes me really happy. chvrches was fun, and lauren's voice sounded great. hayley williams was serving 90's gwen stefani, and i liked it. i had a single cider during the evacuation, which only made dancing to ellie goulding better.

what were your thoughts on the show?
I knew it was improbable given the scope and budget she has to work with, but I as really hoping she'd have some more of the fuller, more orchestral sound that her LP has. That said, I still really enjoyed her.
Top 10 - Based on my personal enjoyment of each show that I saw.
1. John Moreland - Just a guy, an acoustic guitar, and beautifully written sad songs. I can be a sucker for that kind of thing when it's done well and this was done really, really well. Haven't seen him on anyone else's list. There weren't a lot of people there at 12:30 on Sunday but it was my favorite show this year.
2. FIDLAR - I didn't really know them coming in but amazing energy from both the band and crowd. Their lyrics are brilliantly dumb (or is it stupidly brilliant?). They entertained and amused me to no end. I kept texting different lyrics to my wife. She was confused.
3. Dead and Company - I am a very casual Dead fan. I saw them twice in the 80s - both semi-disasters. At the Metrodome in 1986 which had the worst sound of any show I have ever seen and at Alpine Valley in 1989 through a four hour downpour. So, seeing them at the end of four days of blistering heat was an upgrade! I enjoyed it immensely. John Mayer was great- who knew?
4. Pearl Jam - I was much more of a Nirvana fan in the grunge days but Pearl Jam has grown on me a lot over the years. I was hoping for something epic. This was less than epic but still very good. A great band in top form.
5. Death Cab for Cutie - First time seeing them.
6. LCD Soundsystem - They were a distant third on my expectations for headliners. They still finished third but were better than I expected.
7. Bully - Saw them opening for Courtney Barnett at First Avenue in April. They were good then and good now.
8. Chris Stapleton (partial set) - I made the mistake, in retrospect, of starting at Judah and the Lion but fled after they covered both "I Wanna Rock N Roll All Night" and "We Built This City" in the first 20 minutes, the latter of which may be the worst rock song ever. Caught the rest of Chris Stapleton and redeemed myself.
Yeah, I walked past the line and ran into Rothric . I talked to him for a minute and held his place while he hit the bathroom. I decided to head back into the field to meet up with the ladyfriend. Almost immediately upon heading that way, I ran into Doctor Doctor but kept going. I then ran into custeph , beebee , shuck and others. At that point, I decided it was meant for me to go for the pit. Best decision ever.
So glad you did was so lovely to look back while I was dancing and singing along loudly to LCD, to see your face + those of all the other inforoosters who were in our little cluster in middle of the pit. Made the show all that much better
Rummy 500 dancing and singing in the pit with you was one of the best parts of my weekend! And thanks for beelining it to the bathrooms with me right after. I very much considered leaving mid set to go, but I'm so glad I didn't. That could have been easily my biggest fuck up of the weekend.

Right, I guess I was prepared after seeing a bunch of live videos. Probably beats out Cymande for my favorite post lineup find. That album is overlooked.
I was actually center pit. So maybe All My Friends inspired multiple tackling drills?
There's a center pit? I just thought there was left and right.
He was to my right but yes it's seeming like it pretty much was. Lol wish I would've been in a better state of mind to actually talk and meet some damn people. But you'll have that.

I loved it too
And I meant fucking business when that set let out and everyone rushed to the bathrooms; was not gonna stop till we reached Destination Pee.
Considering you've found the need to respond to my threads as if you are threatened by me I offer you some peace my confused counterpart. May you find peace in your restless soul.

Well, I did get a hug, so I was pretty happy.
I'll be honest seeing some familiar faces helped! Glad to see you all!
1. Dead & Company Best Show of the weekend, was in the pit and so excited the entire time. Best was really on point. Amazing setlist, great to see Donna again.
2. LCD Soundsystem A close second to the Dead, this was such a great show, so many tunes to sing along to. Singing All My Friends with thousands of other people was awesome.
3. Pearl Jam Always been a casual Pearl Jam fan, liked the better known songs and some live shows i've watched online, but they blew me away at Roo, so much energy and great music,
4. The Claypool Lennon Delirium Showed up in That Tent before the evacuation, refused to leave and was rewared with being three feet from the rail. Always awesome to see Les Claypool again. Loved the album and it translated well live. Seeing Sean singing one of his dad's songs was cool, he's a talented musician in his own right.
5. Vulfpeck Really surprised by how great these guys were, amazing energy and stage presence. Perfect selection of original music and covers. I only wish they had more than an hour.
Honorable mentions: Papadosio, Lettuce, Kamasai Washington, Leon Bridges, Kamasai Washington Superjam, Leon Bridges.
1) M83 - It was such an amazing beginning to Friday night. It felt so intense yet spacey from up in the pit. The new album sounded fantastic live, way better than the studio version.
2) LCD Soundsystem - They sounded perfect. The energy was good where I was in the crowd and it had a very joyous feeling.
3) Shamir - Best dance party of the weekend. When he came in the crowd and danced at the end he was so nice and cool with the crowd after.
4) Grace Potter - She rocked harder than anyone else I happened to see all weekend. Her band was on fire as well. I thought her version of When Doves Cry was beautiful.
5) Pearl Jam - Played all the hits and made for a really fun sing along. Kind of surprised how hard they still rocked, they haven't lost a step.
Sounds like Tame Impala (Late Night ZOMG!) was a bit of a bust.
I think if they led into LCD on the What, we'd be telling a different story. But you're right. Despite being a standard good Tame show, it was a letdown.
Sounds like Tame Impala (Late Night ZOMG!) was a bit of a bust.
BUT.. CONFETTI!!
it was a really good show for me but i was tripping and was close on the right side near the rail which apparently is the sweet spot to be at for Which.

Man, my list is going to seem lame, but this is where I enjoyed myself most in the order they happened.
Joseph I had listened to their album when researching the lineup, but didn't expect them to be so good. It helps that it was early in the Bonnaroo '16 experience, so I still was fresh. The group is two twin sisters and their older sister who played acoustic guitar. That was all the instrumentation they had and that's all they needed because their harmonies were beautiful. They will be on The Tonight Show on Thursday, June 23. My DVR is set.
Leon Bridges He always puts on a great show. He can get the crowd moving with songs like Smooth Sailing and bring the tempo back down with Lisa Sawyer. I loved his backdrop repping Fort Worth and the cover of Ginuwine's Pony was a welcome surprise.
Chris Stapleton I got pit for this one and was pleasantly surprised by his all star caliber band. He had Dave Cobb on guitar, Mickey Raphael on harmonica, and Robby Turner on pedal steel. They covered one of my favorite Rodney Crowell/Waylon songs Ain't Living Long Like This and his band introduction was one of the smoothest I've ever heard. Love his soulful rendition of Tennessee Whsikey.
Cymande and Sunflower Bean I was hanging at camp talking about Cymande when someone told me they started in 10 minutes. I jumped up and rusjed in and made it in time for the first song. Thanks, under attended Roo. They were great. I didn't know if they would be as tight of a unit as thh 70's recordings I had heard, but damn, those guys can play. Dove and Bra were excellent and I danced the whole set excpet for Crazy Game which really stopped me in my tracks given the news of that morning. Sunflower Bean just fucking rocked out. Their singles are kind of poppy, but I see what Rothric meant about them having some doomy moments. That bass player kills and she was really feeling it. I was one of three people at Who right before they began. They ended up drawing a nice crowd in.
Dead and Company What is there to say. it was the perfect end to Bonnaroo surrounded by great company. I enjoyed the setlist and Drums was epic.
The pit for Vince Staples was lit, Kamasi was beautiful, LCD did their thing, Tame Impala was enjoyable, but not as amazing as I expected for late night, and Pearl Jam was a blast. I really didn't see a bad show this year, as usual.
1. LCD Soundsystem - I don't know, I feel like everyone else has already said it. I was right up front and I feel like they brought their already great show to another level. I talked to so many people throughout the weekend that hadn't been excited to see them at all, and were blown away. Also the crowd in the pit was literally the best crowd I have ever been in, just so many happy people! 2. Father John Misty - I was a bit annoyed after I waited in the pit line in the sun for two hours, and then they didn't even clear the pit out before his show. So although I wasn't on the rail where I would have been, it was a great show. I like FJM's music already, but I think he's one of those performers who is able to make it sound even better live than on record. 3. Superjam - I know a lot of people weren't fans, but I was loving this. The quality of the musicianship on stage was pretty incredible, and you could tell that they worked hard to make it sound fantastic (well besides that TEB douche bag). Allen Stone and Eric Krasno playing The Thrill Is Gone was one of the highlights of my whole weekend. 4. Lizzo - Probably my biggest surprise of the weekend. My crew went back to camp and I had planned to check out Borns, but couldn't even get remotely close to his tent. I ended up wandering over to Lizzo. I had planned to sit outside the tent and listen, but within a few seconds of her DJ being on stage I was up in the crowd. Just a really great, positive and fun show. I was surprised at how good of a rapper and singer she actually was. 5. Lane 8 - First time I have ever been in the silent disco and it was so worth it. I'm glad people talked him up so much before Bonnaroo because he was the perfect end to my fantastic Friday of music. 6. Dead & Co - I wandered over from Ween and just stood at the pit entrance till they let me in about 10 minutes into the show. I was surprised at how much of the music I actually knew and was pretty happy to get a "beginners Dead set". Those old dudes still jam, and John Mayer was great as well. 7. Blood Orange - Really interesting band dynamic. If they hadn't been right after LCD, this might be higher on my list, but there was just no way they had a chance of living up to that show. Still really funky/groovy, and fun set. 8. Chris Stapleton - Another great surprise. I pretty much went to this with the hope that Justin Timberlake would show up. He didn't but it was a great show. I'm not really a huge country fan and I really liked how it was almost like a rock and roll show with country vocals. 9. Vulfpeck - They were just fun. It's cool how they all trade off instruments, and the bass player was pretty fantastic. It was also pretty sweet when the roo chute went over the entire crowd. 10. Roman Gianarthur - First show of the weekend and it was a great start. I think this dude has what it takes to be a star.
Not my favorite lineup, and the gap between LCD Soundsystem and everything else is pretty huge, but I saw some cool shows anyway.
I luckily missed Third Eye Blind guy. It must have been right before i arrived or when i was getting water. Everything I did hear in this was really good. I loved Never Loved A Man, Nathaniel doing Bobby "Blue" Bland, and I actually thought Miley was up there for a minute when they did Party In The USA

LCD - were probably my favorite band of the aughts with their MSG show being one of, if not the best single-band show I've ever seen and they brought it hard. They killed tame impala for everyone I was with. Fantastic energy.
Leon Bridges - I was looking forward to this but he still managed to blow me away. Dude is the hottest thing in high socks. Loved the whole roadhouse feel to the stage show. And then 46 minutes in he dropped the Pony on us. God damn, Leon! Get you some!
Shamir - loved this set. Love his tunes. Love the beautiful bass-modulated backup singers. The whole "own your shit" vibe and bouncy beats. His stage presence is already vastly improved from the videos I had seen. I would go again 100 times.
Vulfpeck - goofy bastards really know how to work a crowd. When antuwan Stanley came out it felt like the place erupted. Very much need to see these guys on their own.
Kurt Vile - it was hot as hell at which but I really am loving this guy's tunes lately and they played the hell out of 'em.
Lucius - had to choose between seeing them for like the fourth time and CHVRCHES, who I have yet to see, and I regret absolutely nothing. They've definitely turned in a bit more poppy sounding stuff lately and have added some layers since the last time I saw them. It really works for them and their stage show is really cleverly crafted which I appreciate.
Ween - if any band needed more time it was these dudes. Great setlist though.
Dead - way better than I expected and I was already high on the show. Great sound.
